Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ So You Think You Can Save Me? ❯ Session 4 ( Chapter 4 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Thursday had passed without much incident. Just the usual comments made by the people in his year level. Nothing he wasn't used to and nothing he really cared about. The only good thing that had happened was he had a chance to start his folio in Art. The students had to choose a theme, or a series of themes that linked together somehow, and create a piece of work that symbolised this. They also had to find another piece of work; whether it is painted art, a play, poetry, photography, anything that also related to the topic. This was the one thing for the semester that he was looking forward to doing. Gaara had chosen the themes of Youth, Loss of Innocence and Depression. He wasn't one hundred percent sure what exactly he was going to do, but he had a general idea.

Thursday night was perhaps one of the longest Gaara had had. He didn't sleep a wink. Usually he was able to get at least an hour or two of sleep. Not that night. He lay awake until about 1am, before deciding to go and sit on the roof and look at the stars. The tiles on the roof were cool, but the mild night was very pleasant; dead quiet with a slight warm breeze, the only light was that being given by the crescent moon and the ocean of stars. Gaara sighed; this was the one place, the one time, when he really felt at peace. However the usual relaxing sensation he got from being up on the roof in the middle of the night wasn't coming on like usual. And it bugged him. What was worse, he knew the reason why he was so tense, and that bugged him even more.
'Stupid Neji and his stupid questions. Now he's going to ask why I went all weird the other day, he's going to bug me with that stupid looking face of his, asking those damned questions until I answer him. Well I can fucking tell you right now... that's not going to happen!'
Gaara felt a slight twinge of nervousness in his stomach as he realised he would have to face the Hyuuga tomorrow, then got really angry about it.
'Fuck! Why am I nervous!? I'm never nervous... fucken asshole... asking all those questions... why does he even want to know...'
Flashback
"You fascinate me...'
That same nervous twinge crept into his stomach as he remembered Neji's words. Gaara growled and pulled at his hair.
'Fuck! Stop being a dickhead... shit... GAH! I hate that man! Shit man... fuck it... I'm going to bed...'

"Gaara Sabaku? Come with me please."
Gaara sighed as the woman from the office came to collect him for his appointment.
'I could really grow to hate her...'
He threw his books in his bag, ignoring the comments about him being either a psycho, a fag, or a psycho fag made by his classmates as he walked out of the Math class.
'At least he had the decency to pull me out of a shit class today...'
Gaara didn't say a word to the woman as she indicated to go into Neji's office, he just walked into the room without knocking, to be greeted by a smiling Neji.
"Ah... good morning Gaara. How are you today?"
"How do you think dumbass?"
Neji's smile only widened.
"I'm not sure... why don't you tell me."
Gaara's scowl deepened.
"How would you feel if you were being forced to talk to some asshole for fucken three hours a week... someone who is only going to put you in a box with a label on it, then chucks you away in some corner?"
Neji's face lost some of its grin.
"Come on now Gaara, is that what you really think I'm going to try to do?"
Gaara didn't answer, he just threw Neji a 'what-do-you-think' glare and sat down on the chair, crossing his arms in front of him. Neji grinned a little again at the younger boy's abrasiveness.
"Ok then, let's say we get started. I had heard that you started your folio assignment in Art. Care to explain what the assignment is?"
Gaara looked surprised... this certainly wasn't what he expected to be talking about. He quickly schooled his face back into its usual angry, bored expression.
"Basically we have to choose a topic, or series of topics and create a piece around that. We also have to chose an existing piece of work that relates to our chosen theme. What does this have to do with anything?"
Gaara isn't one to beat around the bush. He knows Neji is up to something. He was here to analyse Gaara's brain, not to get to know him. Neji smiled.
"Oh, it doesn't have anything in particular to do with whether or not I think you're crazy. I'm just wondering. So what theme did you choose?"
Gaara frowned. Did he really want to be talking to Neji about this? Not really. However, on the other hand, talking about something as mundane as school work was preferable to his home life, or whether or not Neji thought he was 'crazy', as he had said.
"I chose Youth, Loss of Innocence and Depression."
"Oh, and why did you choose these?"
Gaara had to think for a second how to relay his thoughts to someone else. It wasn't something he did often, and it felt a little foreign to him.
"I find it interesting that all humans go through this cycle. Youth brings naivety, which is eventually lost, usually in a painful way. With this loss people eventually understand that life isn't fun. It is full of delusions. Only with this understanding can people truly understand the wickedness of life. With this understanding brings Depression; not in the usual sense, but in the sense that life isn't wonderful like they once thought. Harsh realities are bought to their attention; and they can no longer pretend to not see them."
Neji looked thoughtful as he absorbed what his patient had said.
"Once again you surprise me, with not only your views but with the fact that that is the most words I have ever heard you speak."
Gaara just frowned. He didn't have time for the older man's foolishness.
"So, you have chosen your theme. You said that you needed to find an existing work to relate to your themes. Any ideas?"
Gaara tilted his head as he ran through the events of this morning's art class. After going back inside the previous night he had decided to work some more on his folio. He had done a bit of thinking and remembered a poem he had read once. In class he decided to re-read the poem, and conduct some research.
"The Chimney Sweeper poems by William Blake. Both poems, from Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience."
Neji smiled a little. It never occurred to him that the boy might like poetry, especially poetry with political backings.
"Ah yes. I know those poems. Good choice, considering your topic, and your reasoning for it. Any ideas about how you are going to create your piece."
This wasn't something Gaara particularly wanted to discuss with Neji. He had already really said too much. He didn't want him drawing conclusions about him from what he had said. Neji looked at him expectantly. Based on a moment of intuition, Neji changed the topic.
"Actually, don't tell me. I would rather wait until you have thought it through before I hear what you're doing. I have an idea. Why don't you ask me some questions?"
Gaara frowned, surprised.
"Why?"
"I thought seeing as I plan on getting to know you, and seeing as I'm asking you all these questions, it would only be fair to let you do the same."
Gaara immediately grew suspicious... just what game was he playing anyway?
'Fine... he wants me to ask questions... I'll ask questions. Start of simple... end up inappropriate... that should show the smug bastard.'
"How old are you?"
Neji smiled at the tameness of the question.
"What is that all you've got?" He asked teasingly.
"Just answer the question asshole."
Neji's smile turned into a self assured smirk.
"Twenty two. Next."
"Why do you have such girly hair?"
Neji's eyes took on a slightly feral look.
'Girly hair! My hair is not girly!' He thought angrily... even though he knew it was a little girly.
"What? Don't you think I'm pretty?" Neji asked, fluttering his eyelashes and waggling his fingers at Gaara.
"You're a real loser did you know that?"
Neji smiled
"Absolutely. Next question?"
Gaara looked up, meeting Neji's eyes. He got stuck. Stuck in those strange white eyes; eyes that looked straight into his soul. He couldn't look away, he was captivated... and he didn't know why. Gaara didn't even realise he was talking as the words slipped out of his mouth.
"Why do your eyes haunt me?"
Neji looked taken aback. This wasn't what he was expecting from the fiery red head. And apparently it wasn't what Gaara was expecting to say, if the rapid spread of blood to his face was any indication.
'Oh my fucking god did I just say that out loud?!!!!'
Neji was still a little stunned. He just continued to stare at Gaara, looking straight at into his green eyes. Gaara was growing increasingly uncomfortable; but he still couldn't stop looking in Neji's eyes.
"I don't know. Why is it that you seem to make everyone else I've ever met so boring and insignificant?"
It was Neji's turn to grow embarrassed.
'Fuck... I didn't mean to say that last bit.... damn I wasn't even supposed to think that last bit!'
Gaara blushed even harder, now acutely aware that they had both just said completely inappropriate things. Gaara just wanted to leave. Neji just wanted to be alone.
"Uh... er... well... well it appears your hour is over Gaara. Have a nice weekend. I'll see you on Monday." Said Neji, trying to regain both professionalism and dignity. Gaara reacted in the same way he did last week; he got up and walked out as quickly as he could, face still bright red.

'OH MY FUCKING GOD WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!!!!! Why did I ask that? Why did I even think that?! It's not even like its true! I mean. Come on.... fuck it now I'm confused... I look like a dickhead and I'm confused... fuck. I hate his eyes. I don't like them. I don't like him. Fuck it. Come on... shit... I need to sleep or something... Fuck this I'm going to class....'

Neji leaned back in his chair as he listened to Gaara's receding footsteps. Once he could no longer hear them he turned his chair around to face the desk, and proceeded to hit his head on it.
'Neji you stupid bastard. The poor kid was going to think you were cracking on to him or something. Shit. Way to totally lose your cool you asshole. Fuck... now what am I going to do?'
The woman at reception could hear a faint banging coming from Neji's office... and wisely chose not to investigate.
