Ten Lives to Live
A Naruto AU
Ritalin_writer: Alright this is the actual, first chapter of my fanfic. The other one is just introducing the two main characters of this story so sorry if you were fooled by my genius and actually ended up thinking it was chapter one.
Disclaimer*** I do not own anything from Naruto. The only character thus far that is my own is Kieras. Setsuna belongs to herself.
The sound of their collision followed by the foundation-shaking thud of their fall made both girls gasp for air as their eyes helplessly tried to make sense of the shadows around them. Darkness surrounded them and a deafening silence ensued as all items that were powered by electricity simultaneously shut off leaving the two girls alone to the beat of the rain on the windowpane.
“Oh my GOD Kieras, do you realize how heavy you are! You're gonna crush me if you don't move!” Setsuna yowled as she scrambled from underneath the other girl who was doing her best to determine whether or not she was facing the ceiling or facing the floor.
“Whatever just happened, I didn't do it.” Kieras said defensively as she crawled away and felt around for the hassock for something solid and familiar. Setsuna mimicked her friends actions though had chosen to locate the couch and tentatively sit on the leather upholstery while still looking around the now gloomy space for something of relative familiarity.
“Okay so what do we do now, K?” Setsu breathed as she was able to make out the dark outline of her friend who she assumed was looking in her direction judging by the eerily visible ginger contacts she was wearing.
“We probably just blew a fuse.” Kieras said aloud as the obvious course of action occurred to them both and the two grimaced together. “We'll have to go into the basement and manually turn it back on.” The only problem with this seemingly straightforward scenario was the fact that Kieras was not the most tidy of people. Locating a flashlight in her house was a near impossibility, that and if she even owned one.
“Can you do it alone? I mean I'm a guest and all and I'm sort of not comfortable going into your basement on a stormy night with a candle. I expect someone like Freddy to jump out and get us.” Setsuna shivered as she watched the silhouette rise from the hassock and making slow progress toward the other side of the room.
The creak of a door signified that Kieras was up to something and soon a beam of light broke the darkness and the host reappeared to drag Setsuna along. “Ah no, guests come with since I'm not all that comfortable down their either. My misery is your misery.” With that she grabbed the other girls hand and began to drag her along.
Setsuna groaned and feebly fell into step behind the slightly shorter female who flashed her torch from side to side and exposed the dark, ominous areas of the staircase leading into the basement. It wasn't as bad as they'd made it out to be, the pair often known for their dramatizations so this event was to be no exception.
Tromping from the wooden stairs to the concrete flooring the dark only seemed to intensify. Their beam of light only touched so far into the inky blackness and illuminated little else. This left a great deal for their rampant imaginations to conjure up as they stumbled against one another to where Kieras knew the metallic box rested against the far wall.
The scent of mildew haunted her senses and her light deprived eyes were useless unless they were glaring down the stream of light she flashed in front of them. With Setsuna breathing down her neck the hairs along her own were on end with caution and the prelude of terror nibbling away at her calm.
“You know Setsu; this would be a whole lot easier if you weren't trying to get a piggyback ride.” Kieras growled as she tripped over something and stumbled forward, inadvertently dragging Setsuna those few steps with her seeing as neither girl had released their locked hands.
With a yelp of alarm Setsuna braced herself for another impact but found that Kieras had more balance than she let on as she caught herself and then helped steady her. Indignantly Kieras highlighted the item that had nearly been their downfall, literally. It was nothing more than a full can of paint obstructing the path and the girls breathed a sigh of relief.
“Okay spookiness aside let's get this over with. I'm missing precious couch time.” Setsuna breathed as her nerves tingled with adrenaline sweeping through her system - that or the caffeine was finally circulating through her. Not that there was much difference.
Kieras nodded, or at least it looked that way, as she led them further on and finally the light reflected off of the metal container where the wiring for the house was setup. “Finally!” she exclaimed as she flicked open the panel and began to examine the switches for the ones that were turned improperly.

His energy was gradually leaking from his body at the same fixed pace of his life being sucked from it. Ire darkened crimson eyes glared wearily from within the chakra prison as his captors perched all around. Each biped was performing the same Jutsu that would inevitably result in his very existence being snuffed out and fused with another being.
Ryukaku could not allow such a thing to become of him. He was well aware that the humans were now capable of sealing the tailed beasts within themselves; reportedly his brethren had already fallen prey to such a binding Jutsu.
A snarl rolled from his throat as it craned its flexible neck, the movement near impossible with the chakra circulating around him. It contained him, any movement was taxing and hardly worth the effort seeing as he was already in his second day of being completely subjugated by these humans.
Ryukaku would have roared had he thought it would accomplish anything, but it would only serve to deplete his already spent reserves and cause him further pain. He needed a way to regenerate his strength but there was no hope of that if he was still sealed by these nine humans, only two of which were physically present.
Those two who had managed to suppress him would be the first he killed once he escaped. But how was he to do that with his body in such a state?
Ryukaku gazed down the length of his body, scales of black and white glowing with a faint light, serpentine body coiled almost protectively as he tried to control what chakra still resided in him. He was Jubi, a Bizu who had never needed to be sealed for the vast majority of this continent did not know of his existence. How these men knew of him had been bewildering. Jubi, ten tails, by technicality he only had five tails but his massive black horns comprised the missing five.
Vengefully he growled at the blonde man who was perched furthest from him, grumbling in satscfaction over the noticeable gash left on his chest from where he'd been able to wound him. It was a disheartening fact that Ryukaku had done little damage to him whereas he was bound here, but he'd take what he could get for the moment.
He was in need of somewhere that was safe to rest, but sadly no such region existed to his knowledge. But maybe, a person would be his best form of escape but he would require someone who wasn't strong enough to contain him when his powers returned. A host, it was a miserable idea but considering the events he would take his chances rather than become a pet to one of these men.
The restrictions of his prison bubbled and gurgled as his energy continued to drain but now with a purpose in mind he was able to function easier. Although the weight of their combined chakras was still a burden, Ryukaku could almost taste his triumph as he felt the swell of power accumulating in his mouth. The lightness of it was warm and filled his jaws until the light seeped from his lips and shone through his ivory fangs.
The atmosphere shifted from confident to fearful, as though realizing that they'd just lost their captive.
With a bellow Ryukaku released the collected energy that shot out of the prison and flashed just a few feet from him. It spun, weaving in colorful bands across the room before taking the shape of a sphere and reflecting to him what lay on the other side of his portal.
Two humans, female unfortunately but both of them appeared to be weak enough for manipulation. His candidates chosen Ryukaku snarled as he reeled and lunged forward. His nose struck the wavering prison and light erupted from the point where he tried to break through. It was painful to say the least, his tormentors pouring their chakras into their cell in an attempt to contain him and his own power battle for freedom.
He tasted air, for once he wasn't drowning in stifling chakra and was able to breathe the musty aroma of the cave he was in. Distantly he heard them shouting but they were ignored as he thrust forward again, head breaching the confines, neck following and soon he tore through their prison and fled into the dimension where his new bodies waited for him.

With a whir the electricity sounded and the overhead lights flickered to life and outshined the flashlight that Kieras turned off with a satisfied grin. “There we go, see all better and no body fainted. I say that's a win-win, right?” she beamed before turning to Setsuna who seemed equally relieved to have her vision back.
Not to say it lasted long. In fact as soon as she'd adjusted to light it went right back out and the two were once again stranded in the dark,
“Oh come on!” Kieras barked in outrage, tempted to hurl the flashlight into the returning abyss. It wasn't like the house was that old! The house gave a rumble as though to disagree.
Startled the two screeched as the concrete walls around them began to rumble as though the top of the house was going to cave in on them. This was not how either of them had thought they'd die, Kieras had always assumed someone would kill her eventually…
The ground at their feet sent vibrations through them and instinctively the two girls huddled together and tried to steady themselves as blocks of stone fell out of place - amazingly none of which hit either woman.
“If we survive I am never coming to your house again!” Setsuna screamed as she tried to think of all the good things in her life worth living for, not much came to mind.
“Me too!” Kieras shouted back as she tried to make herself as small as possible as terror locked her in place. The ceiling buckled and she screeched, the volume increased as Setsuna's voice joined her own. Their vocals were then joined by a third set of string, though this wasn't a shriek of terror, more like a roar of victory.
The air around them became warm so abruptly that the two almost forgot that the house was trying to swallow them. Light beamed from above them, the lamps though were nowhere in sight seeing as the ceiling now had gaping holes where they used to be. However, there was an ominous swirling vortex of doom hovering over them.
Yeah that was completely natural, that and the serpent that was charging at them, yep, totally realistic.
Neither girl had the mind left to scream as the stared horrified at the charging reptile with a combination of ill-placed awe and fear.
”Humans! Be proud that you shall serve as my catalyst! I Ryukaku receive your bodies as my instruments and you shall harbor me within you!” It gnashed its menacing teeth as it poured itself through the portal and suddenly split into two separate beings, body ripped into two entities that each flowed down the path and into the chests of the two girls.
Where these spectral forms met the physical bodies light erupted as though it were tearing another portal through them.
Kieras couldn't even gasp as her lungs collapsed, eyes rolling back into her skull as the foreign entity began making itself comfortable, charging her muscles and forging a bond with her very soul it would seem. Setsuna seemed to forget to yell as well, pain and confusion along with shock crippled her brain functions and muscles twitched as her own demon slithered within her body for a place to reside.
The two were blind to the world but even still they registered the invasion of their bodies not to mention the tug as they were hefted upward. Gravity apparently no longer applied as they floated up like abducted cattle and were swept through the inter-dimensional rift.
Their respective bodies were not their own to command, as the plummeted from the basement, to something that looked like it could have been a basement save for the stone hands erected and the strange multi-eyed structure.
They didn't even have the ability to reduce their freefall to the ground.
