Plot: Sakura and Ino make a weird, odd bet that has some sweet consequences for some of the men of Konoha Village.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two of them were standing walking there, their voices none too silently. On the left was a pink haired woman, fine and soft in figure. She stood at 5’6”, and her body was turned to her friend. Someone looking at her or watching her would be forced to smile due to her pale, almost ethereal pale beauty. Her pink lips were small, but that had no impact on the volume of the speech that could be made from between those lips. She was wearing a red dress. It wasn’t too flashy, but it did have a slit that ran up to the thigh on her right side. She had long ago abandoned the shorts that she once wore, so her soft flesh was exposed to others, something she would never have allowed earlier in her life.
The other woman, however, seemed much different. Her head was adorned by long, flowing blond hair. Two long bangs of it wrapped around her face warmly as most of her hair was pulled back into ponytail that ran to the arch of her back. Today she wore a black blouse and a white, knee-high skirt that ran in a harsh contrast to her midnight black top.
“Stupid forehead girl!” Ino, the blond, yelled, her face flushed with anger and rage. The blond hair that framed her face was shaking visibly, along with the rest of her head and body. Her anger was obvious to the pink haired maiden accompanying her. However, the other woman didn’t care in the slightest, as she too was in the same condition.
“Damn Ino-pig! Shut up before I smack you!” Sakura yelled, her body shaking in equal rage. The two friends/rivals had been arguing about, what else, Sasuke and who would have him. Once they had started yelling at one another, the path in the park that they had been walking on quickly became abandoned, no one wanting to get in the clash between the two.
“Stop bluffing you flat Bitch! How the hell can you expect to catch Sasuke when you look like a guy!?”
“Oh yeah, and you’re much better? You look like a breeze will snap your twig body in half!” Sakura retorted, her tone sharp and cutting, equally matching Ino’s. Her small, petite figure was still graceful, even though she was now sixteen. She still was on that starvation diet that she started when she was twelve, and honestly was only a little thicker than her friend.
“Shut it you jealous wench! You’re just pissed that I’m gonna have Sasuke all to myself!” Ino yelled in response, anger and superiority in her voice.
“Oh please, Ino! You have a better chance of being an Uzumaki before being an Uchiha!”
“Yeah, Right! Like I’d ever want to be married to that idiot Naruto!” Ino said. That phrase, surprisingly, had been the one to elicit a smack from her friend. That, in turn, caused the blond woman to grasp her flushed, stinging cheek.
“Shut the hell up, Ino. You don’t even know Naruto.” Sakura said, a dangerous and malicious tone in her voice that sounded almost like a growl. Naruto had changed over the past four years, and had changed a lot. No longer was he the bumbling, one-trick horse of a ninja that he was when he was twelve. In fact, at fifteen he had a growth spurt that sent him to over six foot, taller than Sasuke even.
They both stood there for a minute, equally shocked at what had just happened. Somehow their altercation had changed from a fight over Sasuke to a slap over Naruto, and both of them had no idea exactly why. The two of them had physically fought over the other man they were talking about several times, but never before had Sakura so fiercely defended the blond Naruto. Then, slowly, after a few minutes of staring wide-eyed at the floor, Ino turned her head up to Sakura, looking into the woman’s emerald eyes.
”Wha…What was that for?” she asked quietly, silently scared at her friend’s completely unexpected reaction.
“You…You don’t know Naruto, Ino. So don’t you talk about him.” Sakura said, her voice equally soft. She too had been shocked by her response. However, she was encouraged by the satisfaction she had from defending her teammate. Sakura smiled softly, remembering the fact that she was the woman that Naruto had declared his love to for the past six years. She had no intention to reciprocate his feelings, but she certainly wouldn’t let anyone bad-mouth him. Well, aside from Sasuke, but that was a completely different story.
He had grown in her mind, and when she thought about how much he changed she smiled. Not the same loving, lustful smile she saved for Sasuke, but his own, special smile. A warm, tender smile that she had not given anyone else, only Naruto. In fact, Naruto was like a little, albeit annoying, brother.
Meanwhile, seeing the soft, nostalgic smile on Sakura’s pink lips, Ino was filed with confused and conflicting emotions. She wanted to smack her girlfriend hard, forcing the woman to fall on her head. However, she just bit her lip as the confusion and curiosity within her mind won out. “What’s going on between you two?” she asked.
“We’re friends, Ino. Comrades, really. We’ve risked our lives for one another, and we’ve had some miracles in our history. You know what I’m talking about, don’t you?”
“Yeah, I guess.” Ino said, introspectively. She tried to compare her team with Team 7, but she found it impossible to do so. There had never been that extreme closeness between Ino, Shikamaru and Chouji that was so apparent between the other team, despite how the men of the seventh squad acted. After all, they had never faced Shinobi the likes of Zabuza, Gaara or Itachi. In fact, the possibility for them to fight other Ninja as a team only appeared recently, as Ino had just recently been promoted to a Chuunin, long after the other two.
-------------------Meanwhile----------------------
“Itadekimasu!” Naruto said rather loudly, almost chanting and clapping his hands together as the seventh bowl of ramen was placed before him. His deep blue eyes glittered happily as he snapped the chopsticks apart and began to eat ravenously. So much of his physical state had changed over the past four years. He still had the forehead protector across his head, and his blond hair still ran out of his head wildly, only it was now about three or four inches longer than he usually would have kept it when he was younger. The most noticeable change on his face, however, was still odd to those who knew of his healing abilities. He had a long, shallow scar that ran from his left ear down to his chin.
It had happened during one of his numerous free-for-alls with Sasuke, Neji, and Lee. The three of them had set up an unspoken rule of fighting it out about once a month, to see who was the strongest of the Konoha Chuunin. During that one particular fight, however, it ended with a fight between Sasuke and Naruto. Sasuke was weakened from his fight with Neji, and really just wanted to win, just as he always did. However, he wasn’t fully thinking and started the Chidori, to the shock and protest of the other three fighters. He disregarded them and still attacked though, aiming for the blonde’s head. The scariest part of the fight was when the snapping, chirping ball of charka smashed into the boy’s face.
Luckily, for Naruto, Godaime Hokage was nearby the fight and was drawn by the screams of the ninja and appeared almost instantly to find Naruto’s face almost melting into the ball. She easily forced the boy off of her friend before turning to face him. Amazingly, the Kyuubi’s healing powers had been centered and focused on Naruto’s skull, keeping Sasuke from completely disintegrating his mind. Needless to say, she had immediately begun to heal him, along with the fox demon within him.
Despite their skill and raw power, the two of them could not fully heal the boy’s face, and the proof of the event was the scar. In fact, it was the only scar the boy ever had. Yet, Naruto didn’t mind so much. He actually found it ‘cool’ and was soon taunting Sasuke again. However, during the next fight, he used the Rasengan and immediately threw Sasuke off of the roof on which they were fighting, paying him back in kind and much to the surprise of the shopkeeper that Sasuke was thrown into.
Today, however, as he finished his eleventh bowl, he burped loudly and immediately apologized. His hand moved and rubbed his light blue T-shirt. He then stood up, stretching himself and his muscles before wiping his hands on his black cargo pants.
“Thanks old man.” Naruto said, opening his frog wallet and handing the man the money he owed, along with a rather generous tip. His voice had grown lower over the years, sounding almost like a soft and almost cat-like purr. He had no doubt in his mind that the Youkai had something to do with his voice.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Tell you what, Forehead Girl,” Ino said, a coy smirk on her lips, “Let’s make a bet. How about we forget about Sasuke-kun for a little bit and decide which one of us is actually more attractive?”
“What do you mean, Ino-chan?” Sakura asked slowly, confused somewhat. Now they were sitting on a bench in the same path and the light from the sun had dimmed somewhat since the time of the smack. They had calmed down a bit after the slap and were somewhat back to their normal behavior.
“Well, I think it’s pretty obvious that neither of us are what Sasuke’s looking for right now. After all, it’s been 9 years since we started going for him. Why don’t we go see who else we can snag, and count them up?”
“What!? Hell no! I’m not gonna go around Konoha, picking up whatever guys I see! I’m not like that Ino, and I hope you aren’t either!” Sakura said, well almost screamed, looking appalled as she turned to her friend.
“I’m not like that either. I’m just saying we should see who we could snag. Like a contest. Winner get Sasuke, okay?”
Sakura had absolutely no reason or desire to do this, but it was a good chance to knock Ino out of the running for Sasuke. 'I can beat her any day of the week, anyway. No way I can lose to Ino-pig.' Sakura thought, confident of herself. 'After all, who’d want a twig?'
“Okay, I’m game, Ino-cho. But who?” Sakura asked, enjoying how the name had made her friend flinch.
”Well, let’s do the ninja. No commoners.” Ino said. When she received a nod from Sakura, she reached behind her and grabbed a pen with paper. After all, it was a good idea to go only after fellow ninja. They weren’t the ones who would go around blabbing about who they had done what with. It kinda went against the unspoken ‘have no private life’ part of being a Shinobi.
“Okay. Let’s see…First is Chouji. Then Shikamaru, Neji, and Shino. Who can you think of, Sakura?”
“Hmm... Naruto, Kakashi-sensei, Lee, Kiba, and Konohamaru.”
“What!?” Ino said, open-mouthed and shocked.
What’s wrong?”
“Naruto, Kakashi, and the third’s grandson!? What’re you thinking, Sakura!?”
“You have got to be kidding me if you don’t think Kakashi is gorgeous. And what’s wrong with Naruto? He’s handsome enough and you picked someone who’s in love with you, too.”
Ino scowled, silently chastising herself for adding Shikamaru to the list. She didn’t think Sakura would pick Naruto, and definitely not Konohamaru. After all, they were…well..them.
“Okay, Okay. But why Konohamaru?”
“So one of us would win. Have to have an odd number so it won’t be a tie, right?”
