Chapter 16-White Tiles Toil
My eyes opened to the white tiled ceiling that was becoming all too familiar to me. Remembering what had happened my gaze flew to my arm where the band was supposed to be, but it was gone. At that moment I heard a loud rumble in the distance and realized it was storming and the hospital was quiet. The full mooned sky peaking beyond the storm clouds told me it was about 1:00am. Lightning flashed and I remembered that Lee had clamped his hand onto the band when it was trying to shock my heart. I looked around the room but it was bare.
"If he," I thought, "No, it couldn't happen."
My body still moved slowly so I was apparently still weakened by the Revolving Iris. I inwardly cursed myself again for not planting the evidence.
"If I had though," I thought, "That person could've been wanted for the crime in Suna and since they were such advanced forbidden techniques anyone knowing them would be considered a danger to everyone around them."
I was shocked remembering how I had wanted to use Naruto or Lee. I shook my head and removed all the tubes and wires connecting me to countless machines. I went to the window and with some effort opened it. After a relative glance back at the darkened room I jumped from the window and made my way back to my room at the Aoitora. I was really getting sick of the hospital. I made my way to the hotel easily but quickly trying to get out of the storm. No one there had heard I had been in the hospital so the room was still in my name. I fell on the bed with a loud thump. I closed my eyes and easily fell asleep to the even pattern of falling raindrops.
I woke up at 6:00am as the sun began its rise on Kohona. I glanced around at my room and decided it was way better than a hospital. Why didn't hospitals just be more like hotels? I looked over at a dark blue bookshelf and pulled a random book out. I was brought breakfast and then lunch and then to my surprise dinner. I had been so caught up in the tales I didn't realize I had read the day away.
"Do you need anything else?" one of the workers asked.
"Iie, arigato," I said. (No, thank you.)
I stared at the ceiling and for a moment I forgot everything that had happened to me. I decided to meditate so I sat upright and faded out of the world.
I came back to reality when I heard a crash down the fall. I saw the shadow of someone at my door but I thought it was just another hotel staff member so I laid back and grabbed a book I had been reading for a few hours. I had gotten through the first two sentences when my door flew open and off its hinges. I looked up calmly and saw Tenten in the doorway. I had only said hi to her once so I was quite shocked she was in the doorway much less braking off the door.
"Kagami-chan thank goodness," she said running to me and yanking me out of the bed.
"What is it Tenten-chan," I asked feeling a little annoyed because I had dropped my book.
She dragged me out of the Aoitora and on to a road lightened by the setting sun.
"People have been looking for you since yesterday, you're in no condition to be out of the hospital," she said.
"I'm fine."
Despite my growing distaste for the hospital I let her drag me there. When I walked in, well when I was dragged in dozens of doctors and nurses swarmed in on me like hens and roosters going after feed constantly asking me questions I couldn't hear. I was swiftly moved to a small room and they did lots of tests before they let me walk out. As I walked into the lobby Tenten ran to me who was joined momentarily by Naruto who decided to tackle me in a huge hug.
The nurse who had been walking with me said, "Your muscles and bones are just now a bit weak."
I rolled my eyes and said, "Of course my bones and muscles always weaken when I use the Revolving Iris."
Tenten froze, "Revolving Iris?"
I told her I would explain later, there was one thing I definitely wanted to know now that I was in the hospital.
"How's Lee-kun?" I asked and received silent floor glances.
"Kagami-chan, they're not sure if he'll make it," said Tenten.
Naruto said, "Of course bushy brows will make it, Kagami-chan made it and in under a day, he'll be fine."
"Where is he?" I asked.
"I'll show you," said Naruto.
"Yeah, I have to go see Gai-sensei," said Tenten.
Tenten left and Naruto showed me to a room marked 308. I took a deep breath and opened the door. I saw Lee lying unconscious in the dark room and beside him in a chair sat Kaminari.
"How is he Kaminari-chan," I asked walking into the room.
She looked up at me with shock, "Kagami-chan."
