Chapter 22- Falling to the Wind
I stood on the roof of a prison in Suna with eyes straining to see inside through the skylight window and not be seen by anyone below. I put my ear to the glass and heard a voice.
"We found the scroll and the seal's unbroken so they haven't read anything."
"Then should we sentence them?"
"They're children."
"It's still theft."
"We'll decide this later."
I stepped away from the skylight window and jumped off the building around the back. I didn't have to wait long before he showed up. Out of the trees Orochimaru stepped out with an evil grin.
"I'm impressed, you defied my orders to complete your first mission, not a problem though you'll just sneak in and kill him in Kohona."
"Yes Orochimaru-sama," I said.
"Now come, I must get what I came for," Orochimaru said tearing the wall away from the building like tissue paper. I followed him into the dark building and into the cell that held Kaminari and Lee.
I heard Kaminari before I saw her, she was of course ranting.
"Let us out of here! We didn't do anything! When I get out of here I'm going to shove these chains so far down your throat you'll be eating with your foot! I'll rip off your arm and shove it into your brain-!"
At that moment came the sound of a smack and I heard Orochimaru's voice, "Calm down now."
I looked around the corner and saw him running his fingers over her face.
"Do not touch my sister!"
I heard Lee's voice and my heart sped up, "What would he think now? What would they both think?"
Orochimaru called to me and I stepped into the cell with an emotionless face. It was easy when you were numb.
"Kagami-chan," Lee only stared at me silently as Kaminari went off again, "You evil little traitor I should rip your head off and feed it to the birds! How could you after we were so nice to you! I'll break every bone in your body and-"
She shut up because Orochimaru punched her in the stomach making her cough up a lot of blood.
"Imouto," Lee pulled at the chains but couldn't break them.
"I just wanted to thank you for assisting me in the war between Suna and Kohona," Orochimaru said performing hand signs and retrieving the scroll from mid air.
"War," Kaminari asked looking up at him from her constricted breathing.
"It was the reason for my mission," I said, "Framing an innocent of Kohona for stolen forbidden techniques from Suna to cause friction between the villages. Other events will lead up to the war."
"Kagami, I thought you got out of this trouble," Kaminari said looking at me sadly.
Orochimaru laughed and turned to me, "She has to do what I say, or lose her life."
"No, I removed the band," Lee said his eyes pleading with my gaze that I hoped were emotionless as stones.
Orochimaru laughed causing them to both to look up sharply at him. He did more hand signs and turned his hands towards me. I saw the red light of the chip shine through the bandages and I suddenly couldn't breathe. I knew he wouldn't kill me now he only wanted to show what power he had over me. I saw the ground come closer to my face as my knees hit the ground and I heard the air stop flowing from my lungs. I knew my body was taking on heavy damage especially my lungs with no oxygen. He finally released the jutsu and I fell on my side to the stone cold floor. I looked at my leg to see the red light was still on.
"I won't activate that yet besides you're better use to me in one piece," Orochimaru said emphasizing 'One piece' in his sentence.
"What have you done to her," Lee yelled angrily pulling at the chains again.
Orochimaru turned to him with a cruel smile, "I must commend you boy, not many ninja could have pulled away the shocking band but you'd have to dig deep into her skin to extract the explosive chip."
He did the hand signs again as I got my breath back and I went through the same thing again. I knew he just loved the torture but it wouldn't last long. After a minute he released it again. I heard mostly my heart beating furiously but heard as Lee and Kaminari tried to break away from the chains again, neither succeeding.
Orochimaru turned to me again and said, "As soon as you catch your breath head back to Kohona, assassinate Hiashi Hyuga and bring me back the Byakugan."
With those last words he left me trying to get my breath back.
"Kagami-chan, you do not have to do as he says," Lee said as I stood up.
"Let me out of here and I'll tear his tounge out and choke him with it, trust me I'll enjoy ringing his neck," said Kaminari glaring into the darkness Orochimaru had just left from.
"You can't stop him," I said walking towards Lee.
Kaminari yelled, "Lee grab her and force her to release us."
Lee didn't move though as I stepped closer to him, "I'm sorry."
"You do not have to do this, there has to be some way you can escape him," Lee said.
I raised my hand to his face and brushed my fingertips across his cheek, "I'm sorry," I said again.
I leaned forward and kissed him, my fifth sense coming alive again. Surprisingly he kissed back and I felt everything, the cold ground below me, the warm air around me, and his soft lips on mine. It's like jumping off something and landing with excitement wanting to do it again for the adrenaline rush. I pulled away feeling disappointed as everything became numb again.
"Do not do this Kagami-chan," Lee said catching my gaze with his and rooting me to the spot.
"I'm sorry," I said for the third time.
I turned away and slipped away into the darkness, inwardly smiling.
"I couldn't let them stay here," I thought, "I hope you guys can stop me."
I knew the key I had had in my sharingahn holder was gone. They just needed to stop me before I had to assassinate Hiashi.
I ran out and headed for Kohona stopping to steal a few scrolls from the Kazekage's office, wanting to put off my mission as long as possible. I wondered if Kaminari was yelling at Lee for not making me release them as she had said to. My thoughts consciously went to the chip in my leg. I couldn't help it, I was selfish, I loved life, and I didn't want it gone. I wanted to live and eventually feel grass beneath my feet, sunshine on my face, water running between my fingers, the air warm or cold, the metal weapons I used to fight with, and I even desired to know the feeling of pain. What did everything feel like? Why was I this way? I desired all those things and life.
"So selfish," I thought, "You'll murder just so you can have what everyone else does, just selfish. I just can't help it; I'm truly human, wanting what I can't have, so selfish."
