Wow, this was random. It's basically an Omake for my story The True Assassin, but I decided to put it in my oneshot pot instead, cause its way too long and in depth to be an Omake. If you haven't played Diablo, I explained most of it in the story, but ask me any questions in a review, and I'll post an explanation at the bottom and respond to you. For those of you who don't care about stats and just how badass some of this is, you can skip most of the skill descriptions.

It was nearing dusk in Konoha, the last rays of sun helping to illuminate a certain blonde's book. That in itself was a cause for some to take a second glance. Then again Naruto wasn't the Number One most Surprising Genin for nothing, though him reading was fairly odd. After his near defeat to Kiba, Naruto had decided to seek training dome somewhere other than his perpetually late sensei. So he had gone out and bought a training manual. If one had bothered to read the title one would have been even more shocked. In big, flowing letters was “So You want to become a Paladin?”. The Kyuubi, after finally waking back up from his nap, decided to comment.

 

“A, so another little ningen has decided to take up a different one of the Great Arts. After all there are far too many wannabee sorcerers out there now. Now you have to have a bloodline to use Ice magic, who cares about Earth and Wind and Water are dulled down versions of Ice. And none of those `ninja' can't even call mana, mana! Chakra my furry ass…”

 

`Ah speak of the devil. You finally up fuzzbut?'

 

“I choose not to dignify that with a response.”

 

`Yah yah. But you know about these “Paladins”?”

 

The Kyuubi snorted in disbelief. “Of course! Some worshipped me as a god! I created the Vengeance strike and the Thorns aura myself, though only the most basic form could be mastered by you ningen. How did you think I turned your village's precious bloodlines against you? Kikai bugs ate the Aburame, Hyuugas were blinded, the Uchiha's eyes melted out of their sockets, Inuzuka's were attacked by their dogs, Yamanaka went insane, Akamichi imploded into a bloody mist, need I go on? And that was only with Thorns.”

 

While the Kyuubi had been reveling in past glory Naruto had searched for the Thorns aura. It read, “This is one of the most feared auras. It was given to the Corrupted Ones by the feared Kyuubi no Youkai; though the beast kept its true potential hidden, thank the Kami. Now this dreaded technique has been learned and put to the use of good. At first understanding two hundred and fifty percent of damage made by a melee strikes made against the user will be turned against your opponent or the opponent of another in the party. Meaning if a man hits you twice, he will feel the bite of his own blade five times. But be warned, damage to you will still be inflicted as normal. Every level of study beyond the first will increases the return by an additional forty percent and will max out at one thousand. The radius that this effect will include allies starts off at 7.3 yards and will increase a foot and a half every level.” Naruto's eyes bugged out. `And that's the weak version?!?'

 

`Hmm, I could use this situation to my advantage.'

 

“Naruto, if you agree to become my champion, then I will help you to master these skills. There are ways in this time to go far beyond what the paladins of old could do with these techniques… with them you could even become kage.”

 

By now Naruto was back at his apartment, reading on his threadbare couch. Despite his searching for Vengeance, Naruto didn't let the fox's words go unheeded. What would it take to become the great Foxy One's champion? Doesn't that just mean you represent them, right? The village already thought he was the Kyuubi reincarnate, so why not take up the mantle of Champion? Finally he found Vengeance. “Vengeance is the manifestation of the wrath of the patron God of the Paladin. At a minor mana cost, about four units at the first level, the strike will have an increased chance to hit as it is guided by a divine force and will deal damage in the three elements, fire, ice, and lighting. After being struck your foes joints and muscles will ache with cold, causing a their reaction time to be increased by one third. The hit chance is increased by twenty percent at the first level and ten percent more at each subsequent level capping out at two hundred and ten percent. Enemy's' muscles will be chilled for a duration of 1.2 seconds at the first level with an addition plus .6 second at each level beyond the first capping out at 12.6 seconds. Elemental damage will start of at seventy percent additional damage per element, adding six percent per element per level and capping out at one hundred and eighty four percent damage per element. Finally mana cost starts off at four and increases by .25 points per level capping out at 8.7 mana.”

 

Naruto's jaw dropped to the floor. Thorns was a mid-low level technique and he could probably be decent on his own. But Vengeance was two tiers above, a mid-high level and would probably be impossible to learn without some sort of teacher.

 

`… If I became your… champion, what would I have to do?”

 

`Good, I almost have him. Now I have to word this properly otherwise he'll never agree.'

 

“It is simple kit, you renounce the Kami and declare that you serve me, and the serving part is easy. You live in a world of death and destruction, and all I require is that you claim any kills in my name. And if anyone questions your power you simply tell them I trained you, if they persist simply teach them what I will teach you. They become your disciples… your family. That's right, this will bring you people who care about you Naruto. As my Champion I become like a father to you.

 

`M-my… father?'

 

“Yes, and your disciples will look up to you like an older brother, or like you are their own father.”

 

Tears began to roll down Naruto's face. He had wanted to become Hokage to achieve that kind of recognition, that kind of acceptance. And now there was another path, an easier path.

 

`What must I do, Kyuubi-youfu?(1)'

 

“It is a simple change, first we'll need to get you into clothes that are more suitable to my mortal representative…”

Okay, Kyuubi's comment about not being able to use Ice magic. In Diablo II the three main elements are Fire, Ice and Lighting (and poison, but Necromancers were the ones who dealt in it, not sorceresses. And it isn't treated as an element).

 

The cap out for the skills is level twenty. I actually don't know if skills can go beyond level twenty, but that is all the player manuals show, so… yah.

 

For those who want a rough count of how much four mana is for Vengeance, I'll give you a comparison. A Fireball Justu is roughly equivalent to a Fire Bolt spell, which is 2.5 mana.

 

The “Tiers” talked about after the Vengeance explanation are the tiers for skills in Diablo II. There are level 1, 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 skills. Thorns is a level six skill, Vengeance is level 18.
