A/N: Yes, I know that chuunin don’t do D-rank missions…also, this takes place after the time jump...

“Come on Hinata! Help us pull these weeds!”
“Oh! Yes Kiba-kun”
Hinata Hyuuga was a quiet girl. She had long shiny hair and big colourless eyes. She was a ninja, but preferred not to fight. At the moment, she was helping her teammates perform a D-rank mission.
“Hurry up Hinata!” Kiba called again.
“Arf!” his dog, Akamaru, agreed. Hinata remembered when Akamaru was just a puppy, and he liked to ride around in Kiba’s jacket. Now, he was fully grown, and gave Kiba rides! That was more than two years ago, when she was still a timid, shy genin. Hinata began pulling weeds, reflecting on what had happened since then. The first female hokage had risen up. She had become a chuunin/ Sasuke had left the village. And then, so had Naruto…
She shook those thoughts out of her head and continued weeding the daimyo’s garden. Naruto was gone, and she had to stop thinking about him. Just then, a familiar pink-haired kunoichi came running up to them.
“Ah! Sakura-Chan! How goes things?” Kurenai asked.
“It’s amazing! Guess what?” Sakura seemed really happy about something.
“What is it?” Shino asked.
“All right. Who do we know from my team that left the village 2 and a half years ago in search of power?”
“Sasuke returned?” Kurenai asked incredulously.
“NO! Naruto is back! He and Jiraiya just showed up when Tsunade and I went for our walk!”
“N-N-Naruto?” Hinata stuttered. Naruto had left the village with Jiraiya to do some intense training. Hinata missed him, mostly since she had had a major crush on him since their days at the academy. Hinata had tried to get over him when he had left, trying various things. She had even taken a stab at dating! Now Naruto was back, and she felt a weight off her shoulders. Suddenly, she fainted.

When she woke up, she noticed that she was lying down with her back against a tree. Slowly, 6 faces came into focus: Kurenai, Shino, Kiba, Akamaru, Sakura, and…Naruto’s.
“She’s waking up!” Kiba said excitedly
“N-N-Naruto-kun!” Hinata exclaimed.
“Oh, hi Hinata!” Naruto said. The black haired chuunin turned to look over at Naruto. He was taller. His headband was black now, instead of blue. He had also abandoned his old orange and blue jumpsuit. Instead, his new outfit was orange, with black at the top and down the middle, with another black strip around his middle. The Hyuuga blushed. Naruto looked, if possible, hotter than before.
“H-h-hi Naruto-kun!” Hinata said, blushing even more
“Ha ha ha! Same old Hinata! Dattebayo*!” He flashed one of his big grins, and then looked suddenly serious.
“You know Hinata. I’ve been gone from this village for two and a half years, with no one but the ero-sennin to talk to. So I’ve been thinking a lot about the people in this village, especially you.” He paused.
Hinata’s eyes had gone wide, and everyone else, including Akamaru, was watching Naruto with anticipation. It was no longer a secret that Hinata had a crush on Naruto. Naruto looked around oddly at everyone, and then continued.
“I’ve matured. I’d like to think that I’ve learned a lot about women in the time I was gone. (At this comment, Sakura snorted in disbelief, but no one paid her any attention.) I’ve been thinking a lot about your behavior around me, which brings me to my point. I think I’ve finally figured out your behavior. Do you have feelings for…?” Everyone was leaning forward now, hoping that the blonde haired boy was going to say what they wanted him to say. Hinata looked extremely nervous, but she knew that if he asked her if he liked her, she would have to tell the truth. Naruto looked quizzically at everyone, and then continued.
“What I mean to say is, do you…Oh hell…You’ve got a crush on someone don’t you!” Hinata looked dumbfounded. Sakura’s eye twitched and Inner Sakura began a rant.
“Shannaro!* What does that girl see in him? I mean come on! Totally clueless!” The pink haired kunoichi looked over at team 8, only to find that they had turned to stone and crumbled. Even Akamaru had started to whimper and cover his eyes with his paws. Naruto had more to say though.
“Because if you do, you can’t just become a quivering pile of jelly every time you see the person. Hey might begin to think you’re weird or something. Anyways, Kakashi-sensei said that he wanted to see us about something, so Sakura and I have to go. Bye everybody! Sakura, you coming? We’ve got to get going! Dattebayo!”
“Coming Naruto!” Sakura replied. And with that, they left. Once they were out of earshot, Kurenai looked over at Hinata and said softly.
“You know, Hinata, he’s right. You’ve got to summon up some courage and tell Naruto how you feel. You’re a lot more confident now, and you’ve grown up!”
“Thank you Kurenai-sensei! That means a lot!” Hinata softly smiled, then looked down at her sandals. Thing is though, Hinata began to think sadly, While I may be generally a lot more confident with myself, I’m still that shy little girl around Naruto. Hinata brightened up. But I will tell him how I feel! I’ll never be able to get over him if I don’t!
