The Hinata Chronicles
-------------------------------
The Return To Konoha
-------------------------------

The gates were as huge as she remembered. Never changing Konoha. It's been three years. Hinata wonders what her return will cause or maybe they won't even recognize her, even Naruto. Huh, who cares. The new Hinata won't be so easily distracted.
Her bluish black hair had grown longer. Fringe was cut straight across her forehead. She wore a black short sleeved, fitting cotton turtleneck with a mini grey jacket that clips at her chest. She had a matching short skirt and black tights worn underneath.
She wore a black shinobi glove on her right hand.

Entering the gates had a little nostalgic feeling. If it wasn't for the upcoming chunin exam, she would never step into those gates. She hated her past. She never wanted to have anything to do with it anymore. But she had no choice. Her new team needed her.

“Welcome, go straight to the registration and get a Konoha id over there.” A man she couldn't recognize told her.
She felt his eyes on her as she walked past.

Is that who I think it is? It can't be. She died. Kotetsu thought adjusting the bandage across his nose. “Izumo did_” Kotetsu was interrupted.
“Yes, I'll report this to Hokage sama” with that Izumo swished off.

Walking towards the registration counter, she pretended she didn't notice their alertness. “I'm here to register” Hinata said to the woman at the counter.
“Alright, where is your team? You are aware that you can't participate unless you have a team of three.” The woman was irritating.
“I know” came the cold reply.
Hinata filled the form and handed it to the woman. She had inserted all the details of both Tamiko and Kin. The woman behind the desk frown at the troublesome contestant.
“They'll be here tomorrow” Hinata said. The woman took a good look at it then looked at the petite black haired girl.
“So you're from Cloud eh? Good Luck, Ganbate-o” she said while handing her three special wrist bands.
“Put this on as long as you are in Konaha so no ANBU will trouble you. Next!” the woman called for the next person in line.

Great, I knew it was a bad idea to come here so early. What am I going to do now?
Just as she spoke of it, her stomach growled. Without hesitating her feet automatically walked to the ramen stall. She hasn't eaten anything since last night with Kin and Tamiko. They had an errand to run for the caravan leader before leaving. Yuu sensei was busy doing something else.

Arriving in front of the stall, well it's not really a stall anymore. It's more like a restaurant now. Good lesser chance of bumping into people. Her consciences scolded her. And to think that they would recognize you. Don't you miss them? You have changed, but you're still Hinata. Releasing a sigh she entered the New Ichiraku Ramen.

“Welcome, have a seat.” A waitress welcomed her.
“Would you like to try out new and improved `Shinobi Ramen'? It was first made by a team of shinobi. Perfectly balanced for shinobi lifestyles.” The waitress went on.
Hinata nodded. Swiftly the waitress turned and headed to the kitchen.

She sat at the corner of the restaurant facing the entrance. The waitress came and served the ramen. It smelled good, she dug in immediately upon smelling it. Suddenly she heard a commotion at the entrance. She knew those voices.

“What? Ramen again?” Sakura yelled.
“Heh heh, Sakura chan. We have no choice, We'll have to meet up with sensei later.” Naruto's guilty voice was heard.
“Not we, you. I'm already a chunin remember?” she gave him a whack on the head and Naruto yelped in pain. Beside him was a boy, that looked like Sasuke but something was different about him.
“Sai, lets go. I know I'll win if we compete on `Who eats ramen fastest!” Naruto yelled. Sai smiled. Hinata thought it was really fake.
Sai? So he's not Sasuke. I knew it. Hinata mentally patted herself on the back. She let out a small `hmph'. Loud enough for him to hear.
Sai turned and look at her. She looked back. He later looked to Naruto and took up his challenge. He didn't know her.

Hinata finished her ramen, left the money on the table and went out. On the way she walked past Naruto's table. She recalled the times she use to be too shy to even talk to him. She's changed now. She had a new goal. Without realizing she clumsily kicked the chair Sakura was sitting on. Naruto and Sai were slurping away the ramen to notice.
“Gomen” Hinata quickly said and swiftly left.

Sakura looked at the strange girl. She looked so familiar. Where have I seen her before? She pushed the thoughts away. Maybe on a mission somewhere.
“If the two of you eat any faster, you'll choke to death!” She scolded the two of them.

Huh, that was close. Hinata sighed. Her conscience had a counter back. They will find out eventually you know. What's the point of feeling so happy now? On her way out she bumped into Asuma sensei who didn't seem to recognize her. Heh, they sure have changed. She suddenly realized that she had bumped into two objects in one morning. It has been very long since she actually bumped unintentionally at anything. Must be the excitement over the chunin exam.

She remembered there was something she wanted to do upon returning to Konoha. She made her way to the training grounds. It seem like the only things that did not change. She remembered that place was the first time Naruto complimented her. She laughed at herself before laying her eyes on the memorial stone. She solemnly walked towards it. Do you think it's there? She asked herself. Tracing her fingers on the cool black stone, she suddenly stopped. Hyuuga Hinata. Her name was there. She let out a small `heh'. “Looks like she kept her word”. She said to herself.
Suddenly she felt the presence of another within five hundred meter radius. The person was going to show himself and was now behind her.

“She?” the person asked.
Hinata turned to see Kakashi leaning casually on a tree in the shade.
“Welcome back, Hinata.” The jounin broke the silence.
She stared at him with emotionless eyes. For that moment she wanted to speak but felt like keeping quiet.
The breeze picked up, leaves flew between them. Suddenly she was gone.
Kakashi stood straight alerted. About to uncover his sharingan when a voice spoke.
“ Too late.” The voice faded.

Kakashi thought for a moment. She's back and -changed.

Hinata now sat on a tree overlooking the village. She couldn't help feel afraid of their reactions seeing her alive. Three years was quite a long time. She even had many changes. She was no longer the timid Hinata they once knew. Hinata suddenly felt a surge of anger thinking about her past and how the Hyuuga had treated her. And no one did anything. I was stupid to actually think someone would save me. I has to save myself.

Watching the sun rise high above the sky, it's about afternoon now. She had been scolding herself in her mind all morning since seating there. “I should have fought back”
She said out loud.

As if feeling a deja-vu she sensed the presence of two men towards her.
Within ten seconds they surrounded her. The man in front of her had a cat mask on behind her was a dog masked man.
She lifted her wrist to show her the wrist band id, to tell them was a waste of breath.
“We are ordered to bring you to Hokage sama” said the dog mask man at the back.
“Hokage sama? ANBU, you must be mistaken. I'm only a peaceful participant of the Cloud. I don't carry any harmful intenitons.” Hinata said without looking at them. What was there to look?
“What is your name?” Dog face demanded.
Hinata tried to get up, but couldn't .
“As expected from Konoha's ANBU.” Hinata said with a smirk on her face.
“Answer the question” cat face said. Funny he sounds so familiar.
She looked up at her interrogator.

“Hyuuga Hinata”

Dog face looked at his comrade for a moment who never stopped looking at Hinata.

Suddenly Hinata could move again. She stood up never leaving her stare at the cat masked ANBU. He was looking at her unmoving too.
His partner was taken aback that she was moving again. Right when he was about to freeze her again, cat masked man motion his hand to his partner. His hand reached to his face.
He took of the mask too soon for Hinata to see, he hugged her.
“I knew you were alive” he whispered in her hair.
“Shino” Hinata recognize his voice now.

It seemed like forever that Shino was hugging her. Dog mask nudged his partner away unaware of his partner's past dilemmas.
“You will come with us to the Hokage's office” Still with the authority in his voice.
Hinata looked at Shino's face for the first time without the dark glasses. She never seen him without it before.
Shino never stopped looking at her. “Please” he said.
Dog mask looked at his partners sudden softness.
Hinata remained silence for a moment. She didn't want to cause trouble. It was now or never. She nodded slightly. Shino put on his mask again. Together, the two ANBU's headed for the Hokage's office with their `guest' in tow.

As they were traveling back, Hinata heard Shino say “Welcome back”
