The day after the whole fiasco with the Uchiha family, Naruto woke up in a horribly bad mood. It was probably due to the lack of sleep he had gotten the night before. Sasuke hadn’t been feeling well so Naruto wanted to stay up with him and make sure he was alright. Itachi attempted to stay up, but he was exhausted from the day’s events and had drifted off to sleep after a few hours.

The blond was currently in the kitchen, trying to study for his upcoming test and getting thoroughly frustrated with his work. He was usually really good at math, but what he was looking at, really didn’t make any sense to him. He picked up his book and headed into the living room where Itachi was; also studying for school. He sat down next to his older lover and waited until he saw Itachi look in his direction. “Can you help me with this?” he asked indicating his math book.

Itachi ran a hand through his long hair and turned to a new page in his notebook. “What are you working on?” He usually didn’t help Naruto with his homework all that much, considering the fact that he couldn’t see the text in most normal print books; he usually left that task to Sasuke. But since Sasuke wasn’t feeling well, and sleeping in the bedroom, he was the only one who could help Naruto.

Naruto placed his own notebook on top of the textbook and looked through his notes. “We’re doing, ‘how to measure the magnitude in relations to variables’.” He wrote out a problem from his book, big enough for Itachi to read it. “Like this.” He loved math, but Statistics really killed him. Everything was so flexible and wide ranged; even so, one mistake could throw your whole answer off.

Itachi read over the problem and proceeded to tell Naruto how it was done. Once he was sure that Naruto was confident enough to do it on his own, he went back to his own studying. He had a test in Political Science that he wasn’t entirely ready for.

Sasuke woke up from his nap feeling worse than when he went to sleep. He felt achy and it felt like every time he coughed, he was at risk of hacking up a lung. He knew he was running a fever; which meant he’d have to go to the hospital, yet again. Fever usually meant infection, and an infection was very, very bad for Sasuke. He slid out of bed, trying not to fall over from his dizzy spell, and headed into the living room. Not even a whole week and Sasuke was already sick. He had hoped his immune system wouldn’t give out so quickly, but it seemed he was just unlucky that way. He approached the couch and sat down next to his brother who immediately was on the alert.

“Holy shit, Sasuke; are you alright? You look like crap.” He knew that he shouldn’t have put it like that, but Sasuke really looked bad. He could tell that his little brother had a fever, and upon feeling the boy’s face, he concluded that it was pretty high.

Naruto jumped up and grabbed Sasuke’s keys from the table. “Sasuke, do you want me to call the hospital?” He was really worried about Sasuke. He knew that having an infection while receiving chemotherapy was very dangerous. Sasuke looked like he was about to pass out any minute.

Sasuke nodded faintly and leaned heavily on Itachi. The world around him started to get blurry and he couldn’t really figure out what was what. He turned to Naruto and faintly heard him talking to the hospital; he figured he was probably getting delirious and decided to just try and calm down a bit. He hadn’t realized how fast the fever had affected him; it just came up out of nowhere.

Itachi picked Sasuke up, knowing that he wouldn’t be walking on his own and followed Naruto out the door. He kissed Sasuke’s forehead and tried his best to comfort him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first thing that Sasuke was aware of was that he was lying down. He noticed that there were blankets piled on top of him and he was sweating like crazy. He tried to figure out where the hell he was; knowing that he wasn’t at home, because he would have had either Naruto and/or Itachi in the bed with him. He did however feel a hand holding onto his own and he could hear someone breathing next to his ear. He turned his head and saw Naruto’s head resting next to his a bit below the pillow. He realized that Naruto was sitting in a chair next to the bed he was in. ‘Fuck, I’m in the hospital.’ The memory of what happened finally caught up to him and he gently squeezed Naruto’s hand; trying to wake him up.
Naruto felt pressure on his hand. At first he thought it was just his imagination; he had waiting for five days for Sasuke’s fever to break and for his lover to wake up. The doctor that treated him had said that any longer, ad he probably wouldn’t come out of his sleep like state. Either that or he’d have noticeable brain damage from the fever. When he felt it a second time though, he lifted his head up and stared into the inky blackness that was Sasuke’s open eyes. “Please tell me you’re really awake. I swear if I’m dreaming again…”
Sasuke looked at Naruto quizzically. How long had he been out for? He ran his fingers through Naruto’s hair and felt the blond lean into his touch. He started to tell Naruto that he was really awake, but his throat was extremely dry from lack of use. “I’m awake, baby. How long have I been unconscious?” He had to whisper from lack of vocal cord usage. He looked around and noticed that Itachi wasn’t there. He vaguely wondered where his brother was, when Naruto answered him.
“You’ve been out for almost five days. I was so fucking worried about you.” Naruto tried to hold back his tears; but they just wouldn’t stay put. The saline droplets slid down his cheeks and landed on the sheets next to Sasuke’s arm. He looked up as he heard someone enter the room, and smiled when he saw Itachi approach. He could tell that the older Uchiha knew what was going on by the look of utter happiness on his face.
Itachi rushed over to the bed and looked down at his little brother. He could hardly hold back his tears at the sight of Sasuke awake. He had barely slept those horrible five days; not knowing whether or not Sasuke was going to be all right. He ran his hand over Sasuke’s forehead. It seemed that the fever had gone down a great deal; it hadn’t gone away completely however. Sasuke may have been awake and recovering, but it didn’t mean that he wasn’t sick. The doctors had concluded that Sasuke had probably started with a simple cold and it had quickly developed into pneumonia. He was so pissed off at himself at not noticing the signs earlier. If he had paid attention to how Sasuke was feeling, the whole mess could have been avoided. Instead, Sasuke had waited, like he always did, until the problem escalated so badly that hospitalization was required. “You should have said something earlier; we could have avoided all of this.” He felt Naruto step back a bit so that he could have more room to talk with Sasuke.
Sasuke felt horrible for worrying his lovers. But he was a stubborn bastard; he always had been. He especially hated admitting to others when he needed help and he knew that was something he really needed to work on. “I’m so sorry; I just…” Before he could finish, someone had walked into the room, and he almost passed out again. There in the doorway of the hospital room, was his mother. He looked over at Itachi who gave him a hard look that clearly said ‘She had a right to know.’
Makoto slowly approached her son’s hospital bed and held back the tears that were caught just at the brink of her eyes. When she got the phone call from Itachi, that Sasuke was unconscious with a 106 degree fever, she almost dropped the phone in anguish. The thought of her baby boy dying was something she wasn’t ready to deal with. She had hung up quickly after telling Itachi that she was on her way. She picked up Sasuke’s pale hand with her own smaller hand, stroking the back of it softly with her thumb. She knew that she really didn’t have the right to wish him well, at least not at the moment. She’d wait until he forgave her for being so weak; if he ever forgave her.
Sasuke didn’t know what was going on; first he wakes up after five days of having a high fever, and then his mom visits him in the hospital. It was official; he was going insane. Either that, or his fever was getting worse again and he was hallucinating. He then remembered the fact that his parents didn’t know about the baby; his and Naruto’s baby. With all the ‘excitement’ and drama the night of Sasuke’s revelation of having cancer; they weren’t able to tell them about the baby. He figured it was a good time as any. At least it was some good news for a change. “Mother I need to tell you something. I was going to tell you and Father the night that…well, you know. But I wanted to let you know that Naruto’s pregnant.”
Makoto’s first instinct was to look at Naruto; who broke eye contact with her and nodded. She looked back to Sasuke. “How long have you known?” She couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. After all, they were both still just babies themselves. She couldn’t even imagine being a parent at their age.
Surprisingly, Sasuke’s mother didn’t sound at all disgusted or appalled. She actually sounded, concerned? “We’ve known for about a month; so he’d about two months along.” He couldn’t help but feel better when thinking about his baby. He couldn’t wait to finally have the baby in his arms and know that it was for real. He was sure that Naruto felt the same way, if not more.
After the whole disaster of Sasuke revealing his illness, and the large fight that followed, Makoto had decided that she had just been following her husband and his opinions for all those years. She didn’t really know how she felt about her son’s being gay, because she had never really taken the time to contemplate the matter. She had just agreed with whatever Fugaku had said. She knew it still bothered her a bit, but she wasn’t disgusted or totally against it. Naruto, that was a hard subject; she didn’t really know what to think of Naruto; considering the fact that she didn’t really know him that well. She did want to get to know him more and figure out for herself if he was the right one for her son’s. Her mind made up about the whole situation, she stood up and walked over to Naruto.
Naruto didn’t know what to think. He saw Sasuke’s mother walk toward him and he wasn’t really sure what to do, or what she was going to say. Was she mad? Was she going to demand they put the baby up for adoption? He was not giving his baby away, no matter what anyone said. He’d stand his ground on it and not let his baby be taken. He prepared himself for the demand in his mind; going over what he was going to say.
Makoto gently took the blonde’s hand in hers and gave him a smile. She was really willing to try, for both of her son’s sakes. “I just wanted to apologize for how I’ve acted toward you in the past. I know I was wrong and I would like to get to know you a bit more. I know that my son’s love you with everything they have and I just want them to be happy; so if you make them happy, then you must be a wonderful boy.”
Naruto’s mouth hung open in shock. That is not what he had been expecting at all. He shut his mouth quickly, realizing that she was waiting for an answer. “I don’t know if I can accept your apology. At least not yet; I would like to get to know you more too and I know that Sasuke and I want you to be in the baby’s life as well.” He wasn’t sure if he was making the right decision, but he felt she was genuine enough.
Makoto smiled again and patted his hand. She sat back down next to Sasuke and grabbed his hand again. “Sasuke, there’s something you need to know; I’m going to file for a divorce.” She left it at that, knowing that was all that needed to be said.
Sasuke couldn’t believe his mother took the news so well, and she was getting a divorce from the man that hated everything about him. “Does he know yet?”
Makoto shook her head. “I’m telling him once I get all the paperwork complete and in my hands. I want to make sure that he has no choice in the matter.”
Sasuke nodded and looked at his mother. “Just be careful, I don’t want him to hurt you.” His dad could be extremely violent when provoked, and he was worried that the mention of a divorce would drive the man insane. There was only one reason and one reason only that Fugaku kept Makoto around; publicity. If word got out of a divorce between two of the wealthiest people in the world, the press would be in a frenzy; not to mention, the people’s opinion of him would pretty much be in the toilet.
Makoto smiled at her son and stroked his hair gently. “Don’t worry about me, I can handle myself.” She looked at the time and realized how late it was. “I should go, visiting hours are almost over. I’ll come back and see you tomorrow.” She leaned down and gave him a kiss on the forehead. “I love you Sasuke.”
Sasuke was pretty much asleep and couldn’t respond to the words. He knew his mother would understand; he just wanted to sleep.
Makoto gave Itachi a kiss on the cheek and smiled at Naruto before leaving the room.
Naruto looked at Itachi with confusion in his eyes. “That was really strange. It’s like she totally turned around.”
Itachi nodded and wrapped his arms around Naruto. “That’s how she was before Sasuke was born. Apparently our father put it into her head that Sasuke was a horrible mistake and that he would just ruin our family. I don’t know how he managed that, but from then on, she was a very different person. She treated me differently also; when she realized I actually wanted to spend time with Sasuke and stand up for him.” Itachi was a bit surprised himself. He never would have thought that his mother would change so drastically. Although, a revelation like Sasuke’s could knock you down like you were punched in the face.
Naruto rested his head on Itachi’s shoulder and closed his eyes. “I’m sorry, that you had such a messed up childhood; granted mine was probably just as bad.” He didn’t know why he had just said that, he didn’t really want to think about his childhood. He’d be up all night thinking about it and remembering every horrible detail. Luckily he’ll have Itachi to keep him sane. “We should go too; I can’t stand being here anymore.” He felt a lot more comfortable leaving; kowing that Sasuke was alright again. He’d have someone call though if any happened.
Itachi nodded and grabbed his jacket, along with Naruto’s. He gave Sasuke a small kiss and told him that they’d be back the next day. He knew Sasuke hadn’t been fully asleep, so his brother probably heard him.
Naruto also gave Sasuke a kiss and told him how much he loved him. He grabbed Itachi’s hand and headed out the door; looking back to get one last look at his love before he closed the door; leaving the room and Sasuke in darkness.
