Chapter 10
On with the story
Ibiki stood in front of the room and stared down at the genin. “There's a lot of genin this year, this should be interesting.” He then looked over to Kenshi, Yin and Yang, and narrowed his eyes. “We will finally get to see the strength of the Tree's genin, judging by their Kage it would seem that they would be stronger than anyone here, but that remains to be seen.” He then turned his attention to the rest of the genin. “Ok listen up, you all will be seated judging by the number you draw from this bag, everyone form a line and pick your numbers.” He said while holding up a small black bag.

The genin formed a line and did as they were told. They were split up and seated themselves randomly around the room. That sat at long desks around the room. Kenshi was seated up front, Yin was seated a few rows behind him and Yang was seated in the back of the room. After everyone was seated, many chunin began to enter the room and sit along the walls with clipboards. After everyone was seated Ibiki began to speak.

“Ok for your first exam you will be taking a written test.” This was fallowed with shocked gasps across the room. “SILENCE, while the tests are passed out I will explain the rules.” As he said this some chunin began to pass out one test page to everyone.

“The purpose of this test is to test your brain. A good ninja will have a balance of both brain and brawn, those that do not will find that they will have a very short ninja career. You are given ten questions, there are eleven in all. You will be given an hour to finish the test, fifty of those minutes will be used answering the questions given to you, while the last ten will be used to answer the eleventh question which will only be given after the fifty minutes are up.” He then looked over the faces of the genin.

“Some of you may be thinking of cheating, well I strongly discourage this. The ninja around the room are highly skilled and will be able to catch you cheating if you are dumb enough to try. For every time you are caught cheating, two points will be marked off your test out of a possible ten.” Some genin narrowed their eyes at the chunin around the room.

“Also your tests will be graded together as a team, so if one person fails, the whole team fails.” This was followed by another set of gasps from the room. A small smile appeared on Ibiki's face. “You are put in teams for a reason and in a mission if one person fails to fulfill his role than the whole team suffers. You must be able to rely on each other. Show me what exceptional shinobi you can be, begin!”

Instantly the room was feels with rattling paper as people frantically hurried to start the test. Kenshi, Yin, and Yang, simply looked down at their papers and scanned through the questions. They instantly recognized the questions as much too difficult for a genin. “Wow, what are they trying to pull, I bet less than half of the class will be able to answer these questions.” Yang thought to the others.

“Yea it seems the point of this test is to make us cheat.” Yin said while eyeing the test without interest. Kenshi eyed the test and scuffed, this may be difficult for some humans but of-course they weren't human. Demons must learn to analyze any situation if they even have a hope to survive in hell, one of their many basic instincts that are necessary for survival and self preservation, that's why every demon comes fitted with photographic memory and those who are turned into demons soon develop it after their transformation.

Also in Kenshi, Yin, and Yang's, cases their analysis skills were honed at a young age, one of the advantages of being raised in a safe environment, rather than learning the hard way in battle which would take much longer. These questions were no challenge for them. As if possessed, they all picked up their pencils at the same time and began to write as if mimicking each other. They flew through every question not even needing to take time to answer the jounin level questions. They all finished in fifty five seconds flat, they dropped their pencils at the same time, leaned back in their chairs and used their tails for balance. They then seemed to just fall asleep.

Ibiki, and chunin, and half the class's attention were drawn to the foxes. Ibiki stared at them with narrowed eyes. “There no way they finished in such a short time, it's impossible.” He then walked over to Kenshi and looked down at his paper. The answers were all correct. It was perfect, though Ibiki showed no sign of his shock. He walked over to the other two and checked their papers as well and found them all to be correct. There wasn't so much as an erase mark. He then looked over to the chunin and gave a slight nod. The shock showed on their faces. Ibiki stared at the apparently sleeping form of Yang for a moment before walking back to the front of the class.

Incredible, they shattered the previous record, even the record of the anbu who took the test. I must report this to the hokage.” As he thought this, there was a small poof of smoke on his shoulder and a red hawk appeared from the smoke. He placed a small rolled up scroll in the hawk's talon before it took off. He then began to focus on the rest of the class. Most of the class was still taking aback by the fox's speed in which they finished the test. Most assumed that they cheated and so the cheating began and in the first five minutes the first team was eliminate.

“Number sixty, fail, numbers eighty three and ninety six, fail.” Three genin got up and sadly made their way out the door, but this only acted as a challenge to everyone else, and so the chain of failures began. In ten minutes, eleven teams had already been eliminated. Yin and Yang listened with amusement at the embarrassing failures, while betting on who would fail next. Kenshi was occupied with something else. To his luck In front of him sat that boy from earlier, the boy with dark skin and long wild hair. Kenshi stared at the genin with a smile on his face, why couldn't he have a little fun while he waited?

Kenshi plucked a single strand of fur from his tail. He smile and blew on it softly. The fur flew lightly through the air, across the room and landed on the boy's nose. The boy didn't notice and kept working on this exam. Kenshi could see through the piece of fur and onto the boy's paper. It was only half way done, and the boy was stuck on the rest of the questions. The boy just sat there nervously tapping his paper with his pencil over and over in agitation, though Kenshi was impressed that the boy could answer at least lower jounin level question, it seems the boy had reached his limit.

This was a perfect time to reveal himself and do something nice to a human for a change. Suddenly the piece of fur stood up on the tip off the boy's nose, this didn't go unnoticed by the boy who made no move. The fur than fell of the boy's nose and glided over to the boy's hand, he watched with interest. The small piece of fur than gave the boy a small prick on the finger, drawing blood. The boy flinched and was now weary of the animated “hair”. He tried to softly blow it away but the fur was unaffected. It than jumped from the boy's hand and onto the paper, it started to write on the paper.

The boy's eyes widened as he watch the fur write the correct answers in his blood and handwriting, It even worked out the problem so he could understand them. It didn't take long for the fur to finish writing and when it did it jumped on the back of the boy's hand.

Who would do this for me and why, neither of my teammates have the power to control hair, so it must be someone else, but who.” He thought while receiving another prick, this time on the back off the hand, this time he didn't try to blow it away, the fur than started writing on the back of the boy's hand.

Behind you” it read. The boy stared at the message with entrance, but he knew he couldn't just turn around, that would be way too obvious. His curiosity soon got the best of him and he had to see who the person was that helped him, he would use his bloodline ability. He looked down hiding his face. Suddenly, a kanji for blood appeared across his forehead, his eyes then turned blood red and a red slash went from his eyes to down his cheek to the opposite sides of his face. The tips of his hair then turned blood red. He then used a small henje to hide the obvious features. The transformation was complete.

The blood on the back of his hand started to come alive as he held his head down. It then began to stream down his hand on to the table. It dripped into a small puddle before rising a few inches from the table in a circular shape. It was too small for anyone to notice. The blood then formed an eye with a dark red pupil. He was able to see through this eye. The eye looked around the room for anything suspicious and stopped at the sight of Kenshi.

Kenshi was staring directly into the eye without blinking. The boy stared at Kenshi threw the blood eye, neither made a move. They just continued to stare as time went by.

He must be the person, but how can I be sure?” As if reading the boy's mind, the piece of fur made another prick into the boy's hand and began to write.

You are correct, I am the one controlling the fur, I am Kenshi Kitsune of the hidden tree village.” The boy stared at the writing on the back of his hand. A small smile went across his face. He new that was the person but he didn't know why he was so happy to find out. He then thought of a way to answer Kenshi, since he obviously wanted a reply. He then formed the blood on his hand into a bubble and the blood bubble floated into the air. It then flew up and made its way over to Kenshi. Kenshi watched with interest at the boy's apparent ability to control blood. The blood bubble soon made its way to Kenshi and dropped on the desk in front of Kenshi and began to form words.

“I am Sora Kyuuketsuki of the hidden cloud village, why did you help me”

I saw that you needed help, so I helped.”

“I could have answered the question for myself.”

“Unlikely, gauging your stress levels, it was apparent that you were out done. Of course you did answer questions that no normal genin should be able to answer.”

“Why me”, Kenshi smiled, they were finally getting some where.

Isn't it obvious?” Sora thought about it for a minute before a thought flashed through his mind, but he quickly dismissed it while shaking his head.

“If I really needed the answers I could have just used my blood to copy off of someone, which is what I was planning to do before you interfered.”

Kenshi thought to himself.“What he really means by that is he could do it by himself and didn't need help. He's telling me that he's capable of protecting himself.” Kenshi's smile grew even larger. This human interested him a lot. He decided that he wouldn't use his scent to seduce Sora. But of course he has to show Sora his strength. It's essential to assert your dominance early on, the earlier the better, he then began to write again.

“We both know that's not true, there are hundreds of shinobi here and you have no way of knowing who has the right answers.”

“I could have just copied from you”

“True, but how do you know I have the right answers.”

“We both know your answers are right, everyone knows but know one will admit it.”

“Then why are you admitting it.” Sora stopped and froze. Before he could think of an answer a small beep went off in the room.

“Alright times up, its time for the eleventh and final question.” Ibiki yelled. Everyone put their pencils down, most with a groan. “Before I give you the final question I have something to tell you. You have the choice not to take the last question.” Most of the people in the room were shocked by this, it showed on their faces. Ibiki stared at the class with an unfaltering and intimidating gaze.

“I know what you are thinking, of course you will take the question because you would fail other wise, and well there is another part to this question. Those who do not answer correctly will not only fail the entire quiz, but you will never be allowed to take the chunin exams again.” Instantly the room was filled with gasps, and doubt. Ibiki continued to stare at the class displaying no emotion or indication of a joke. One random ninja jumped up.

“You're bluffing. each of our villages would never agree to those terms, they all need shinobi and wouldn't risk it.” Ibiki stared at the kid.

“After the war, it was apparent that many shinobi on all sides were not ready for the missions they were sent on. Many died because they were promoted and were unready for their promotions. The villages do not plan on making that mistake again, so if you cannot pass this test than you should never be promoted to a higher rank, it benefits every village.”

The kid slunk down in his chair beat. He didn't have any argument for that. He then slowly raised his hand.

“I choose not to take the final question.”

“Then you fail but you will have another chance to become a chunin in six months.” Seeing them leave, more teams began to quit, Kenshi watched with disgust as the tenth team walked out. As the thirtieth person walked out, Kenshi growled and said only one word.

“Weaklings,”He said it low but loud enough for everyone in the silent room to hear. This one word brought everyone back to their senses and gave them renewed confidence. They would not give up, they were not weak, and they would see the test to the end. Ibiki gauged the renewed faces of the shinobi in front on him.

“It seems that one comment has reminded them that they are shinobi. Those tree village shinobi are interesting.”

“Ok, now that it seems you all will be staying, its time for the eleventh question. You all pass.” Every shinobi's face showed their shock, except a select few.

“This test was to test more than just your knowledge of shinobi theory. It was a lot more than that. It was to test you information gathering skills. You were given questions that are much too hard for genin, well for most genin,” He said while looking at the foxes, “and you had to figure out that the only way to answer these questions was to cheat. You were forced to cheat under extreme circumstances, not knowing whether the person you cheated from would give you the right answer.” He then removed the cloth from his head and revealed his scars.

“You may, no you will one day have to complete mission that requires a certain amount of information. The information can be correct or it could lead you to your doom, but do you give up, no. You complete your mission at any cost, you must rely on your teammates, you must trust them with you life. This test was to prove what exceptional shinobi you could be, and you have all proven that, congratulations, you have passed the first exam.

Suddenly a boy wearing horrible green spandex and enormous eyebrows jumped up and started hooting happily. A girl behind him began to yell at him, a Hyuuga

“Ryu sit down, stop acting like an idiot.” The boy looked back at her with a huge smile and tears of happiness.

“I'm just so happy Hina-chan. Now I'm one step closer to being a great ninja like Lee-Sensei.

As the boy danced around Ibiki checked his watched, “she should be here in a few seconds, she not early this time, she must have got tired of all that hyper-ness.” There was a poof of smoke and out of it stepped a women in a tan trench coat. She had tan shorts and a fishnet shirt covering her top. She had spiky blue hair and dull grey eyes. Two slash marks ran across her face horizontally. She looked at the class emotionlessly an with a emotionless and haunting voice she said to the class,

“I am Mitarashi Anko, and I am your second exam prompter.”
