The last chapter may have seemed irrelevant but Rebecca and Leonie having equal powers will be very important later on in the story.

Rebecca burst through the door of Tazuna's house and yelled, “Leonie and I made it to the top!” `Yet she still has the energy to yell random nonsense. Amazing,' Leonie thought exasperatedly. “Well then, since you two and Sakura seem to be the farthest along, I'll send you to help protect Tazuna tomorrow,” Kakashi said, not even glancing up from the push ups he was doing with his finger.

Sakura, Rebecca, and Leonie sat on the bridge together the next morning watching as Tazuna and his crew worked on the bridge. Later, after the work day was finished, they all went into town to buy some food. Everywhere they looked, there were signs of extreme poverty.

 

They walked into the grocery store and Tazuna looked around. `This is a grocery store?' Rebecca thought disbelievingly. There was hardly anything for sale. Rebecca whirled around as she heard Sakura yell, “Pervert!” She kicked the guy who had been trying to steal from her.

 

After Tazuna finished shopping, they headed back to Tazuna's house. A little kid pulled on the back of Sakura's dress. “Not again,” Sakura muttered. She turned around and saw a skinny little kid holding out his hands, silently begging for food. `How can this happen to the people?' Rebecca thought furiously. `I will do whatever it takes to make sure that bridge is complete if it means helping these people.' Rebecca glanced over to Leonie and saw the same look of cold fury on her face.

 

Dinner that night was quiet. “Where are Sasuke and Naruto?” Sakura asked. “Probably lying dead on the forest floor because they used too much chakra,” Rebecca replied absently. At Sakura's look of outrage Rebecca said, “I was only kidding, geez. No need to take offense at that.”

 

Just then Sasuke walked through the door with Naruto leaning on him. Naruto smiled triumphantly. “We made it to the very top!” “Good, that means you can join us on guard duty tomorrow,” Kakashi replied.

 

The Next Day

“Naruto's going to be out for a while, so we're just going to head out now and let him rest. If he wakes up, inform him he has the day off,” Kakashi explained to Tsunami as most of Team 7 left for guard duty. When they got to the bridge a terrifying sight was seen. All the workers had been killed. Or so they thought until one of the men groaned out the word, “Tazuna.” Tazuna rushed to the fallen man's side and asked him urgently, “Who did this to you?” “A…devil,” the man replied before dieing. A thick fog started obscuring everything. “So the final battle is to be today,” Kakashi muttered as he took a fighting stance.

 

At Tazuna's House

Naruto awoke to the sunlight streaming across his face from the window. `Wait a minute,' Naruto thought, `Sunlight?' “Oh no, I overslept!” Naruto yelled as he jumped out of bed. He ran out to the kitchen and asked Tsunami, “Where did everyone go?” “They left already. Kakashi told me to tell you that if you woke up, you had the day off.” “I don't want the day off!” Naruto yelled as he ran to the room he had been sleeping in.

 

He came out a few minutes later fully dressed and ran out the door. “I can't believe they would just ditch me like that,” he muttered as he jumped through the trees towards the bridge. Then he noticed a cut up boar lying on the forest floor. `That's strange. It's all cut up and there are cut marks on the trees. They seem to be leading to…TAZUNA'S HOUSE!' Naruto frantically started running back the way he came, hoping he wouldn't be too late.

 

At Tazuna's House (again)

“Inari, do you think you could help me with the dishes?” Tsunami asked. “Sure mom, but I'm in the bathroom.” Tsunami kept washing the dishes, unaware of the danger that approached her. Suddenly the door burst open and Tsunami screamed.

 

Inari ran from the bathroom only to see his mom being captured by two large men. “Mom!” Inari cried. They dragged Tsunami out the door. Inari collapsed on the floor in tears. `I'm too weak to help her,' he thought despairingly. Then he thought of Naruto and what Kakashi had told him of Naruto last night.

 

Inari felt courage flowing back into him. `I'll save her, no matter what I have to do!' He ran out the door and after the men who had kidnapped Tsunami. He yelled at them, “Let go of my mom!” He charged the men. “Inari, no!” Tsunami screamed at him. But it was too late. The two swords the men carried with them had cut through him. But then he turned into a cut up log. The two men's faces registered shock before they were kicked into unconsciousness by Naruto.

 

“Way to go Inari!” Naruto praised. “I would like to hang around here but I have a feeling that something's wrong at the bridge.” With that last statement, he jumped away and towards the bridge again.

I know this chapter is short but all the action will be in the next chapter.
