Hey everyone! It took me awhile but I got up the 26th chapter! YAY!!! Hope you like it!

 

~Chapter 26; Goodbyes~

 

Shino miserably walked down the hall of his frat room. `I never even got to ask Kaede out...' He sighed.

 

“Shino?”

 

Shino spun around and was slightly surprised yet very happy at whom it was. “Kaede… what are you doing here? Don't you have a class going on?”

 

“I was about to ask you the same thing.” She giggled at him.

 

He smirked. “I asked you first.”

 

“Well if you must now,” She pretended to sound cocky. “I left my book here. Now why are you here?”

 

“I was hoping to find you.”

 

“Huh? Why?” Her fake cockiness went away and was replaced by interest.

 

“Well… something happened and I need to leave for home…”

 

“Awe, but it's only been a week since school started…”

 

“I know but it's an emergency.”

 

“When are you leaving?”

 

“Tomorrow morning. I wanted to say goodbye to you before I had to leave…”

 

A tear streamed down Kaede's cheek. She was very interested in him since the day they first met and now, before she even got to know him, he was leaving… She took out a notebook and a pen from her backpack and wrote down her address and phone number. She walked up to him and gave him the paper. She smiled weakly. “You better keep in touch.”

 

He could tell right away that it wasn't real. He could see the true sadness and slight anger in her eyes. He accepted the paper. “I-“

 

“I only have one request…”

 

“What is it?” Shino was surprised.

 

“I want to see your eyes before you leave.” She flashed a said smile.

 

Shino thought about it. `I've never really showed many, if any, people my eyes… but I think I should make an exception this time…' He nodded.

 

She reached up and slowly slid off those conservative sunglasses he constantly wore. When his eye were in full view she gasped… they were beautiful… a wonderful shade of grayish brown. She then stood on her tiptoes and gently kissed him. Taken by surprise, he slowly kissed back. After a couple minutes of a make-out session the alarm on his watch went off. Sadly he pulled back from her. “What's the alarm mean?”

 

“I have to start packing…” He said sadly.

 

Kaede almost burst into tears. She held his sunglasses out to him. “Here…” She said sadly.

 

He looked in her eyes. “Keep them.”

 

Her eyes widened. “Wha?”

 

“Keep them. They're a gift. In case we aren't able to see each other again.”

 

“B-But you ALWAYS wear these…”

 

“Yeah, but I have an extra pair back home. I'll manage.”

 

“Bu-“

 

“No buts. They're for you.” He smiled weakly and kissed her one last time. “I have to go. Goodbye.”

 

Tears streamed from her eyes as Shino started walking away. Kaede looked at the simple pair of sunglasses in her hands. She gently held them to her chest and closed her eyes as Shino left her line of sight. “Goodbye… Shino Aburame…”

 

~The next morning~

 

Everyone was at the airport waiting for Jiraiya. They reminisced about everything that had happened over the past week.

 

Naruto: flashes of hinata and him comforting him and

 

Sasuke: the school trip with Asuka

 

Sakura: mourning over Tsunade's death

 

Shino: the event with Kaede yesterday

 

Kiba: the way the ANBU had to remove him from his house *Some details provided by Akamaru of course*

 

Hinata: Herself and Naruto

 

Rock Lee: mourning for Tsunade

 

Neji: Just plain wondering what was going to happen next

 

Tenten: mourning for Tsunade

 

Shikamaru: the experience of getting to Boston while drunk

 

Chouji: thinking of all the great American food he ate ((A.N. C'mon you shoulda seen that coming))

 

Ino: Think of what she said to Sakura

 

Gaara: looking back on the memory of his and Asuka's trip to the beach and how she died but was revived at the cost of Tsunade's life

 

Kankuro: Thinking of everything Gaara had endured during college

 

Asuka: Thinking of how Orochimaru almost permanently killed her and how Tsunade had saved her from eternal darkness

 

Miharu: All the different ways she was going to find out of how her fathers body could bend

 

Cronic: thinking about the decision he had made to move to the village hidden in the snow in order to help protect Asuka and Miharu

 

Jiraiya finally arrived and decided not to say anything when everyone started following him, knowing what to do and where to go. `God it's creepy to see them all depressed like this… great now it's depressing me.' They got on the plane. Both plane rides were completely silent. When they finally arrived where their vans were parked they got into their respectable ninja clothes. The van ride was silent. One van took everyone from Konoha, back to Konoha, but not before addresses and phone numbers were exchanged and sad goodbyes were said. The other van held Gaara, Kankuro, Asuka, Miharu, and Cronic. They stopped at the village hidden in the snow first. The back of the van was slowly opened by a couple of ANBU.

 

“Asuka Nakamura, Miharu Nakamura, Cronic Uzumaki… this is your stop…” They said quietly. Miharu and Cronic said goodbye to Gaara and Kankuro and got out. Asuka looked up at Gaara sadly. Tears were streaming down her cheeks.

 

She moved toward him and embraced him in a hug. “I'm gunna miss you so much…”

 

Gaara closed his eyes and returned the hug. “And I'll miss you too…”

 

Asuka leaned back and handed him a piece of paper with her address and phone number on it. “Please keep in touch.” She smiled sadly.

 

“C'mon you Ms. Nakamura! You must go!” Said one of the ANBU.

 

Asuka started crying harder and Gaara pulled her into a hug. He rubbed the back of her head and whispered into her ear so only she could hear. “I promise… you'll be okay… if he ever hurts you again I'll kill him.” The shared one last kiss before Asuka left the van. Asuka looked back at him one last time and gave a weak wave `goodbye.' The van doors closed and the van's engine started. Gaara's eyes widened. “Shit! I forgot to tell her!” He ran to the back of the van. He was about to grab the handles to the doors to open them but sand moved in his way. “What?” The van was moving now and the sand didn't want Gaara to fall out the back of it. “B-but Tsunade sealed everyone's chakra!” Gaara was getting pissed the sand wouldn't even let him touch the door.

 

“The seal must've been broken when Tsunade died.” Kankuro said. Gaara walked to the side of the van and leaned his head against it. “What did you need to tell her anyway?”

 

“I wanted to tell her… that I love her.”
