Chapter 2: Lunch Time, Bonding Time

 

It was lunch time and Kurenai-sensei distributed the healthy lunches she herself made to the genins. Naruto and Chouji were first in line as expected. After everyone got their lunches, they went on their own groups and sat together.

 

Naruto sat with his loudmouth and named `weakling' friends - Chouji, Lee, Kiba and Shikamaru.

 

“Wow, this lunch is nice.” Shikamaru commented, taking his first bite. “Nice??!! Is this what you call NICE?! This amount? Are they trying to make us thin? This food looks all just like one bite to me!” Chouji exclaimed. “Yeah! I agree with Chouji. And it isn't even ramen! I thought Iruka-sensei said it was ramen.” Naruto agreed. “Whoa! We should protest to our senseis!” Kiba exclaimed. “No, we must never mind about it. This is part of the training. Every suffering will make our character stronger. That is what Gai-sensei tells me!” Lee opposed, remembering his sensei's advice once again. “Oh here goes Lee once again… Very pro to his beloved sensei. And my friends… Gully, I didn't know they really would complain about this.” Shikamaru thought, sighing.

 

On the other hand, Sakura and Ino sat with Sasuke. The two girls tried hard to speak to their subject of interest but he wouldn't let them get overwhelmed about him. “Uh you know Sasuke, you were really great in our first activity.” Ino commented unsurely. “Well, uh thanks.” Sasuke mumbled as seriously as possible. “Yeah, Sasuke. You're really a genius.” Sakura added, not letting Ino get his attention.

Sasuke sighed. He had always had his usual flock of fan girls but these two, Ino and Sakura had been close to him forever. He couldn't blame he was getting close to them only he wasn't sure whether to like either. He was a serious guy, genius and all, then he was going to have a love interest?! Hello, like it matches. He thought about this as the two fanatic girls stole him glances.

 

Meanwhile, Neji and Tenten went to these three. “Uh hello, could we join you?” Tenten asked politely. The three looked at them. Sakura glanced at Ino and Sasuke, searching for an answer. “Oh sure! It's alright with us.” Sakura replied finally. Tenten and Neji sat with them.

 

“So uh, Sasuke? Can you share about your sharingan? I'll share about my byakugan.” Neji said, trying to get to know this serious guy almost like himself. “What would you like to talk about it? It's just like your byakugan, equally powerful I guess.” Sasuke replied. “Oh really? Just tell me how it works.” Neji said. “I don't know… I can share what I know…” Sasuke shared about the abilities of the sharingan while Neji on his byakugan. But of course, they both left some things secret since they would use it when they would battle each other.

 

The three girls watched them talk with interest. “Wow, these guys surely are powerful.” Ino mumbled to the other two. “Yeah, we couldn't relate to what they were talking about.” Sakura agreed. “I told you Neji is really powerful.” Tenten praised. Sakura and Ino glanced at her. “Hey, how can you prove that? Sasuke is the most powerful. He's strong and besides, his more handsome than Neji. He's the number-one rookie this year, remember?” Ino defended, becoming war-freak. “Oh no, I don't agree with you! Neji is really really cute if you look at him. He has his really nice eyes and besides, he's more professional than your Sasuke.” Tenten defended. Sakura glared at Tenten. “Hey Tenten, tell us. Do you have a crush on Neji?” Sakura confronted finally. They all went quiet, even the boys who just started listening.

 

Tenten froze and her cheeks flushed badly. She glanced at Neji who was expecting an answer, perhaps. If he would know how she really felt, he might go away from her and that would be bad since she's the only person Neji confides in. “Uh, I don't know. Er-I mean, no! He's my friend and that's not more than that…” Tenten defended guiltily. Neji did not mind her answer. “Don't worry, Tenten. We'll keep your secret.” Sakura whispered, as she and Sasuke stood up and went to join Naruto.

 

Tenten looked at them and Neji asked her to join Lee.

 

“Lunch time is finished! Please assemble here for your new groupings for the next activity.” Iruka announced.
