Chapter 5 The Girl whoÕs name is Deep

She was sweating heavily, and she was panting, gasping for breath. What the hell happened! She looked up at the thick foliage. A ray of sunlight penetrated through and hit her sweaty face. SoÉ tiredÉ She plopped down on the grass, and fell asleepÉ

Neji landed down on the undergrowth, and activated the Byakugan, scanning carefully for the sight of the said plant. He then shook his head and shifted his weight onto his left foot. He felt something snap under him and a crunching noise. He lifted his foot and caught sight of the circle-leafed plant. It was a parasite, and the leaves were very small, just the size of a thumb. The plant was curled around an old rotting twig implanted firmly on the ground. The twig was snapped, but luckily the leaves werenÕt severed or anything.

Neji couched down and tugged on the twigÕs unsnapped part to come off the ground. The twig budged, but only a bit was showing up. He tugged harder and harder until the whole twig was revealed. But it wasnÕt a twig; it was a branchÑa whole rotting hell of a branch. So thatÕs why its heavyÉ he thought. But as he observed with the Byakugan, inside the rotting branch were many clusters of the plant they were searching for. BullseyeÉ

Neji forced the branch open by slitting its sides. He pushed the top part of the branch off. Neji started to gather all of the clusters in the rotting branch carefully, placing it on the plastic bag Shino gave him. When he finished, the plastic bag as large as a sack was very full. Neji knotted the top part for the plants not to fall out while he jumped from tree to tree, back to the base. He hauled the plastic bag over his back and prepared to take off when suddenly a couple of birds flew away startled from about three trees a hundred meters away from him.

Uh-ohÉ predatorÉ IÕm not in the mood to fight some bloody hell of an animal right nowÉ better take a detourÉ

Neji jumped to the west instead of jumping to north, where the direct direction of the base lies. He jumped slowly from tree to tree, not speeding up until he was a well 250 meters away from his previous spot, not wanting to attract the predator, whatever it is. Then he slowly picked up momentum and speed, shooting towards the base. He was about to jump again, when a flash of light blue caught his attention. What an unusual color to be inside a forestÉ I wonder what it isÉ

Neji halted and jumped down to the ankle-height untended grass. He slowly, carefully approached the bright blue color. It appeared to be a piece of cloth. But before he can even have a full glance of the object as he turned the corner, a lone wolf bounded out of the trees and attacked the bright blue object. But it wasnÕt an object at all, coz when the wolf bit the part of the said thing, blood spurted out and a feminine cry of pain was heard. Neji dropped the bag of plants and sent three kunais at the wolf, killing it. It keeled over slowly to its side. Neji ran to the girl in the light blue combat clothes. She was writhing in pain. She looked strong, but then she was probably asleep then, thatÕs why she didnÕt notice the wolf and had the chance to defend herself.

Neji looked the girl carefully. She had deep blue eyes and silky perfect ebony-black hair. Her eyes were pleading for help, and Neji decided to help the poor girl, since she appeared to be alone. He carefully helped her to sit up and carried her in one arm, and he picked up the bag of plants in the other. He sped from tree to tree, hurrying to get back to the base fast, or else the girl will have an infection with her pretty deep wound.

Naruto and Gaara jumped away from each other, panting. Both were battered and bruised all over, but neither wanted to quit or give up. Most of the other nins that were finished with their missions or taking a rest were watching in the sidelines as spectators.

ÒNone seems to be losing. TheyÕd better stop this, itÕd take until forever,Ó Kina Chiko remarked, taking a break from his works.

ÒTo the untrained eye, it seems so,Ó said Asano Rei, a boy from the Wind. He came from the Logistics group and had just finished their EQ-IQ test, which are being checked by Shikamaru.

ÒWhat do you mean?Ó

ÒGaara is losing,Ó muttered Taira Aira.

ÒWhat? He seems to be well and fine to me. He seems in better shape than Naruto, even,Ó said Chiko.

ÒAnalyze their fighting styles. Naruto is impact; Gaara is wound. At first glance, it would appear that Gaara has the upper hand. But its the other way around. See, Gaara inflicts wounds on NarutoÑsome pretty deepÑbut he never does wound him severe enough to make him topple down, even just once. Meanwhile, Naruto has made Gaara fall down more than five times already. But how, you ask. Of course youÕll wonder, there is no external wounds. But NarutoÕs impact attacks with his special taijutsu one by one disables GaaraÕs pressure points where his physical strengths come out as well as his chakra points, much like the gentle fist, only deadlier since this doesnÕt need to be close to the target to affect it. A smart way to befuddle the enemy,Ó observed Rei. ÒAre you sure you should be on the Logistics team?Ó

ÒHmph. IÕm particularly good at winding the enemyÕs minds, not at analyzing fighting styles. For that matter, talk to Fuji over there, the one with the strange green hair. SheÕs smart with that area,Ó replied Chiko.

Gaara charged forward. Through NarutoÕs eyes, he could see that this was his last straw. Naruto then grinned and placed his right foot behind him. He then squatted down - like LeeÕs poseÉ if you know that poseÉ - and positions his left arm in front of him, and the right was into a fist beside him, gathering chakra. Then, seconds before Gaara wouldÕve made contact; Naruto punched the air with tension so intense that it produced powerful concentrated sound waves that radiated throughout the area, deafening the people for a few seconds. But Gaara took most of the impact and was thrown off his feet backwards. Naruto relaxed his stance and breathed in and out deeply.

ÒOkay enough, we donÕt want to kill both of you. Naruto you are bleeding pretty badly, you know, youÕve lost a lot of blood. While you,Ó said Hinata, pointing to Gaara, who was staggering to his feet slowly. - Sorry Gaara fans! - ÒÑhave a pretty nice case of hemorrhage and internal exhaustion. Your muscles and organs were shocked and battered by too much impact. You Naruto, you couldÕve killed one of us, what were you thinking, using that attack? HeÕs not as strong as Sasuke, you know, he cannot fully block your impacts like Sasuke does.Ó

ÒRight. Whatever. I can heal myself anyways, I have no problems,Ó grinned Naruto infectiously. He then released some chakra and performed some runic seals, and then a light glowed outlining him; all the wounds healed, no matter how deep.

ÒGet back, dobe, its my turn,Ó said Sasuke, rolling his eyes, sighing and pushing Naruto to Hinata, making him stumble to her.

ÒNarutoÉ stop your chancing will ya,Ó sighed Sakura. Naruto looked extremely apish. - apish means stupid, ridiculous or boorish/foolish -

ÒWell, shall we?Ó smirked Kankurou. Sasuke just shrugged, very relaxed.

ÒI hope this doesnÕt turn into another impasse situation, but I donÕt want it to end with an immutable result either,Ó muttered Hinata. ÒJeez, donÕt they know that we only have one life? WeÕre not catsÉÓ

Sakura giggled lightly. ÒDonÕt worry, Kankurou can hold his own,Ó said Temari.

ÒSasuke, hold your horses, we donÕt want another avalanche, okay?Ó called out Sakura.

ÒYeah, yeah, I know, whatever, now make those guys beside you shut up, and you as well,Ó Sasuke dismissed. Sakura frowned, crossed her arms and harrumphed.

ÒFINE! Kill yourself, the hell I care!Ó yelled Sakura, obviously very mad with Sasuke. Outside Sasuke seemed unperturbed, but SakuraÕs tone hit a string hard somewhere in SasukeÕs ice heart, in that place where Sakura melted the ice. Sasuke started to worry inwardly. Uh-ohÉ need to get this over with fast and get things straight with herÉ sheÕs hard to get back with when she gets madÉ jeez, I gotta finish this fast, no time for gamesÉ Sakura more important, this just a fight, Sakura more important, cant live without herÉ - Boy, he thinks far, doesnÕt he? Thinking of breaking up alreadyÉ -

ÒTroubled, Uchiha? In a fight, a real warrior should never be troubled,Ó smirked Kankurou, sensing the slight faze with SasukeÕs demeanor after SakuraÕs word.

ÒShut up, Kankurou, you donÕt know me anymore,Ó smirked Sasuke, digging deep inside him and dumping the feelings inside for a while.

ÒWhatever,Ó muttered Kankurou. He started to attack. Sasuke closed his eyes calmly, breathing in and out slowly as Kankurou started to close in.

Then, when Kankurou was just about to hit Sasuke, SasukeÕs eyes snapped open and he jabbed his palm on KankurouÕs stomach, borrowing NarutoÕs technique. Kankurou was hurled backwards, hitting the ground with such impact that the ground shook slightly. Yet he staggered upwards, coughing out some blood.

ÒStill fit to fight?Ó Sasuke asked Hinata.

ÒGo on, its still okayÉ for now that isÉÓ Hinata muttered, sighing.

Sasuke nodded, then glanced at Sakura for a moment, not losing his auraÕs eyes on his opponent. She was playing with the snow, humming by herself, then throwing the snowballs on the pillar of stone, trying to hit certain spots with unprecedented accuracy. She had her back on him. Sasuke turned his attention back to the coughing Kankurou, feeling a pang of guilt. He shouldnÕt have dismissed her like that. She was justÉ worried for him.

Kankurou regained his composure and then seemingly repeated his attack. But then, just as Kankurou was going to hit him, Kankurou disappeared. Sasuke had expected it and felt around for his aura. Behind him.

SasukeÕs hand turned into its knife-like form. - check chapter 1. - ÒKaminare Utsu, Te Nadegiri Suru,Ó Sasuke muttered, whipping around and slashing at KankurouÕs raised foot just as he was about to kick Sasuke.

Kankurou retreated back, his wound evidently deep.

ÒOopsÉ Hinata, stop the bleeding, itÕs a severed vein,Ó Sasuke said in a stern voice.

ÒYeah, I know!Ó sighed Hinata, rushing over to Kankurou, healing his wound in a flash. ÒNowÑÒ

But before she could finish whatever she was going to say, they were interrupted by a frantic Ayumi appeared with a poof out of nowhere.

ÒÕNee-chan! Neji-nii-sanÕs got some news! He says its urgent! He wants the four of you to go down there! Quick!Ó Ayumi rambled.

ÒOkay, okay, calm down, Ayumi-chan, guys, cÕmon,Ó called Sakura, patting the girlÕs head and proceeding off down the stairs, followed by a frowning Sasuke, a worried Hinata, a sleepy Naruto, and disappointed SSA nins.

ÒThis just better be goodÉÓ muttered Aikawa, clenching and unclenching his fists.

ÒDonÕt worry, Yuri, weÕll get to fight next practice, IÕll excuse you myself, just stop your grumbling,Ó sighed Sasuke. ÒAyumi-chan, did Neji say anything or did he bring anything?Ó

ÒWell, he went straight to the Medics departmentÉ and heÉ wellÉÓ

ÒWell?Ó asked Naruto.

ÒHe wasÉ carrying a girl in his arms,Ó muttered Ayumi.

ÒWHAT!Ó exploded Naruto, Kankurou, Gaara and the ones who knew Neji quite well.

ÒYesÉ a girl, unless that was a lesbian or something,Ó muttered Ayumi, giggling slightly. ÒAnd I must say, the girl was quite gorgeous herself,Ó she smiled dreamily. ÒBut my Sakura-onee-chan is still more beautiful!Ó she said, hugging Sakura. Sakura smiled.

Neji set the girl down on the entrance of the cave. The girl stirred. - I expect youÕve realized that this is happening during the time Gaara and Naruto was still fighting. - Neji let the girl walk, guiding her slowly, at her pace. The girl had tears in her eyes, and it was very evident she was pained. She tried to move her head, possibly to look at Neji, but the pain restrained her from doing so.

Neji was heading towards cave 2. The Medics Department. The process was painstakingly slow, due to the wound of the girl. Then just as suddenly, she turned limp in his arms.

ÒLost consciousness againÉ this is not goodÉ sheÕs been slipping in and out for ages nowÉÓ muttered Neji, hoisting her up and setting to a run through the dark damp walls of the cave passages.

Soon they arrived in the Medics Department, where there were only two persons. Ino, and a certain boy named Amamiya Kyo.

ÒNeji! WhatÑÒ Ino asked, but she stopped herself in mid-sentence as she saw the poor bitten girl cradled carefully in NejiÕs arms. ÒWho is that? SheÕs not one of us, is she?Ó

ÒIie,Ó muttered Neji. ÒHey, you, Amamiya, is it? Bring this to the Chemists Department, they are waiting. Tell them its from me,Ó Neji mentioned to the boy, signaling to the bag full of the plant they were searching for.

ÒCÕmon, lay her here,Ó muttered Ino.

ÒIie. Cant. We must take her upstairs, in the proper rooms, sheÕll disturb the activities here. I just want you to bring around some medicine for her wolf bite. Stupid girl, sleeping on the forest floor alone like there was no worries in the world,Ó muttered Neji, setting to a run back up. ÒSheÕll be in my room!Ó

ÒOkay, IÕm coming up!Ó

Neji met Ayumi on the way, and ordered her to call the four and take them to his room.

ÒRight away!Ó muttered Ayumi, running off.

Neji opened the door to his room, leaving it open. He then gingerly lay the girl on his bed, careful to avoid applying any force or pressure on the wound. For all he might know, she might have a severed nerve or something. It could lead to permanent paralysis if that happens.

Just then, the leaders along with the SSA bounded in his room, led by Ino.

ÒHinata!Ó Ino called.

ÒPut some antidote first before I close the wound, Ino,Ó muttered Hinata calmly, examining the wounds.

Ino nodded and uncapped a small red bottle, pouring it gingerly over the wounds. Then she closed it and Hinata performed several seals, then wrote in runic the word ÒHealÓ then ÒCloseÓ and then ÒWoundÓ. Then she placed her palm over the wound and it glowed. As the glowing stopped, Hinata retreated her hand to reveal the blemish-free skin.

ÒSheÕll be fine.Ó

ÒGood,Ó sighed Neji.

ÒI think we need an explanation,Ó Sasuke said, leaning against the wall. ÒYou may start anytime you want, Hyuuga.Ó

ÒYeah,Ó Neji said, leaning against the wall himself. ÒI just found the herbs they wanted me to find, then I heard some rustling and the birds flew away a couple of trees away from me, so I took a detour, because I didnÕt feel like battling a big beast at that time. So when I took the detour, I turned west, and I saw a flash of bright blue. I thought it was nothing, but when I looked closer, I found that it was her,Ó continued Neji, pointing to the girl. ÒBut before I reached her, she was bitten by a wolf. She was sleeping then. So I helped her. Period.Ó

ÒOkay, story accepted, I think sheÕs up,Ó muttered Naruto. The girl sat up, and whipped her head around.

ÒWhereÉ where am I?Ó asked the girl. She had a beautiful melodic voice.

ÒDonÕt worry, youÕre safe. WeÕre not going to harm you or anything,Ó smiled Sakura.

ÒI can see. You had helped me. For that I thank you,Ó she smiled back. But then her smile turned into a bewildered frown. ÒWait. How far are we from the spot the wolf bit me?Ó

ÒAboutÉ 50 kilometers, I thinkÉÓ estimated Neji. ÒWhy do you ask?Ó

ÒWHAT! 50 kilometers!Ó asked the girl, shocked and wide-eyed.

ÒYou donÕt need to worry about getting home, you can sleep here, or if you really need to get home, we can assist you,Ó said Sakura, raising a brow apprehensively.

ÒNo, its not thatÉÓ

ÒWhat, then?Ó asked Sasuke, getting a little impatient. ÒBetter spill it nowÉÓ

ÒSasuke, shut up and give the girl a rest, she might still be disoriented, or tired,Ó snapped Sakura. Sasuke clamped his mouth shut. DAMMIT! SheÕs really mad at me! Shit, I wish we would get through this ordeal; I need to talk to her!

ÒNo, no, its fine,Ó said the girl. ÒSince you saved and healed me, I think I owe you an explanation.Ó

You bet you do, thought Sasuke in his mind, keeping his mouth shut.

ÒWell, my name is Shimatani Fukai. I am the last of the Shimatani clan, the clan who protects this magical and ancient forest of Konoha. This forest is considered second most deadly forest, but it was like that because people havenÕt reached even halfway to the heart of the forest yet. Only we can. This forest is actually the most dangerous forest in all the countries,Ó she started.

ÒI was shocked earlier because I wasnÕt supposed to go out of my one-mile radius,Ó she continued.

ÒBut why?Ó asked Naruto, interested.

ÒThere was a curse put on me when I was born. I was bound to the house of the clan and I can only go out in a mile. The place I was lying in was several meters away from the one mile radius line. ItsÉ really a surpriseÉ but if I got out just because I met the mister,Ó she said, pointing to Neji. ÒÉ then my guesses were true. It was the Norou no Tomo. I just needed to find somebody whoÕll befriend me and whoÕs not from my bloodline, then I can get out.Ó - The Curse of Friendship. Mentioned in previous chapter. -

ÒOooÉÓ Ino said in understanding, mouth a big O.

ÒIno, will you please shut that mouth of yours, it stinks,Ó complained Shikamaru.

ÒShut up, Shika! My mouth doesnÕt stink!Ó she shouted.

ÒOh yes it does,Ó muttered Shikamaru. ÒAnd you look absolutely ridiculous.Ó

ÒShut up!Ó Ino shouted, blushing madly. Shikamaru laughed.

ÒLittle Ino, so easily irritated, so sensitive,Ó laughed Shikamaru. Ino blushed harder, if possible.

ÒSo. Its my turn to ask. Why are you here? NobodyÕs supposed to be here, its dangerous. And how did you get here?Ó asked Fukai.

Everybody looked at Sasuke, who was standing there, mute. After a few minutes of silence from him, Naruto exploded.

ÒWhat is the matter with you! Answer her! YouÕre the leader!Ó he hollered into his ear. Sasuke didnÕt speak.

Everybody sweat dropped.

ÒWhatÕs the matter, Uchiha? Cat got your tongue?Ó asked Neji.

ÒSasuke, speak up, you must explain to her!Ó said Hinata.

ÒWhat? Have you eaten something foul or something? Any pain? Did Kankurou injure you? I cant see any injuries,Ó muttered Ino. Shikamaru sighed.

ÒSakura, just make him speak, will you?Ó sighed Shikamaru.

ÒFine. Explain,Ó muttered Sakura, staying in one corner.

ÒWhere should I start?Ó asked Sasuke. Everybody sweat dropped.

ÒThatÕs Sasuke for you. Never speaks until the one who told him to shut up makes him speak,Ó snickered Naruto. ÒI shouldve known.

ÒWell, you can start with why you are here and who you are,Ó said Fukai.

ÒI am Uchiha Sasuke, youngest member of the Uchiha clan, and one of the two left. I lead this group of ninjas from different countries. We are here to train ourselves for an upcoming war against several countries whoÕve made an alliance with each other and plans to eradicate Konoha and the other countries along. Even though we are exceptionally strong, our strength is not enough to defeat an alliance whoÕve quadrupled their forces all alone. And besides, the two most notorious criminals together in a feat is definitely not a joke.Ó

ÒWho are these two criminals you say? I know the list of the notorious criminals, that mysterious library fills itself up with new information everyday about the outside world,Ó said Fukai.

ÒOrochimaru and that bastard Itachi,Ó muttered Sasuke.

ÒItachi? I know both of them, but I donÕt got much information about Itachi.Ó

ÒUchiha Itachi is my brother. He killed the whole clan except me several years ago. He left me to suffer. IÕm out to kill him, and as far as I know IÕm not suffering. And this time, IÕll make sure that heÕll kneel in front of me, begging for forgiveness. This time, I will make sure he returns to hell, where he came from.Ó

ÒOh. Okay,Ó muttered Fukai. She decided against questioning further, she saw it was a touchy subject. ÒHow did you get here?Ó

ÒPortal. Magical portal,Ó answered Sasuke.

ÒOkay. What do you do here?Ó

ÒLike I told you, we train. We train the ninjas to become stronger and more adept. We train them to become full-fledged warriors who will not let their countries down. These ninjas are the best of the best from the different countries. We train them in their own specialties. We, the ones you see in this room, are the leaders. I lead the operation as head, supported by Sakura, Naruto and Hinata,Ó said Sasuke, pointing to the three who smiled at Fukai. ÒThen the others are the specialty heads. They are the ones who train the nins in the actual field.Ó

ÒOoookayÉÓ Fukai said, enlightened.

ÒNow, do you plan to stay here, or return home?Ó asked Sakura. ÒIÕd like it if you stay, weÕll have a new recruit.Ó

ÒYeah, you can help us in your own way. Can you fight?Ó asked Hinata.

ÒYes, of courseÉÓ smiled Fukai. ÒAnd IÕd love to stay. IÕve never had any friends. But I need to get my things firstÉÓ

ÒNejiÑÒ started Sasuke.

ÒI know, I know, IÕll assist her, because I have the Byakugan,Ó said Neji. ÒFine. Tell me when we can go.Ó

ÒWait, wait. Byakugan. You said Byakugan,Ó said Fukai, looking at Sasuke. Then she averted her gaze to Neji. ÒYou mean you are from the Hyuuga bloodline?Ó

ÒBranch. HinataÕs the one from the Main.Ó

ÒOooÉÓ Fukai said. ÒIf Uchiha-sanÕs from the Uchiha, then heÕs got the Sharingan! ThenÉ You know, you look like the picture of Haruno Rui at our house. I think she was a friend of my great great great grandma or something,Ó she followed, looking at Sakura. Sakura smiled.

ÒThatÕs because I am from the Haruno bloodline. And yes, I own the Rachigan.Ó

ÒThen him,Ó Fukai said, pointing to a sleepy Naruto. ÒHe looks like the boy who was fused with the Kyuubi.Ó

ÒHe is,Ó muttered Sasuke. ÒHeÕs Uzumaki Naruto, from the Uzumaki bloodline, holding the Resengan.Ó

ÒIf thatÕs so thenÉ then you four lead the Tasogare!Ó Fukai exclaimed, snapping her fingers.

ÒHow did you know?Ó Neji asked suspiciously.

ÒBecause my mother told me so before, that there was a very strong country in the east ruled by four individuals,Ó smiled Fukai.

ÒFine,Ó said Sasuke. ÒIf you want to get your things, better leave now, so you can get back here earlier. Its dangerous out there by nightfall. We donÕt know what kind of monstrosities lie inside that frickinÕ hell of a forest.Ó

ÒOkay!Ó said Fukai, standing up. Neji stood up properly and left with Fukai.

After the door closed, Shikamaru sighed. ÒThe girl is pretending. That is not her true personality. I feel she has the same personality as Sasuke and Neji. She is ice as well. She just pretends in the fear of scaring us off. She craves for care and warmth of friends.Ó

ÒI know. But we cant do anything about that. We must wait for her to break out of her fear,Ó sighed Sakura. She stood up and proceeded to her and SasukeÕs room. Sasuke followed slowly, silently.

As soon as they both got into the room, SakuraÕs friendly smile inverted. A frown formed across her face.

ÒLook, Sakura, IÕm sorry if I snapped at you,Ó said Sasuke. Better to get it over with quicklyÉ

ÒYeah? Well you have to mean your ÔsorryÕ! And I can clearly see you donÕt!Ó snapped Sakura, whirling around to face him.

ÒReally! IÕm sorry!Ó said Sasuke, stepping closer. Sakura stepped backwards.

ÒYou are not! Why am I always the one, eh? Why am I always the one to be worried? The one to be caring and understanding? And yet, even though I complete those roles, I never get a single thank you! I never get appreciation!Ó shouted Sakura. Sasuke stepped closer, and she stepped backwards yet again.

ÒNo, youÕre mistaken, SakuraÑÒ

ÒYou never care for me! I am nothing to you! Nothing!Ó shouted Sakura, tears falling freely. She took another step backward as Sasuke approached.

ÒSakuraÉÓ

ÒYou donÕt love me! You donÕt! YOU DONÕT!Ó she shouted. ÒYou lied!Ó She stepped a last time backward, and she felt her back against the wall.

As Sasuke heard her words, he lost control over himself. He stepped close to Sakura, then grabbed her head and took her mouth in his forcefully.

Sakura protested, struggling, but to no avail. Sasuke was far too strong. He pinned her whole body and arms against the wall, continuing in his forceful approach. Each time Sakura struggled, Sasuke pressed his mouth harder against hers.

Sakura felt his mouth against hers, hard. He pressed harder yet again, as she squirmed against him and whined. His mouth was moving against hers, his tongue teasing her mouth open, licking her lips slowly, seductively. Sakura groaned as she felt her body going limp and weak under his hold. She struggled for air, and Sasuke felt her need, so he released her mouth for a while, letting her gasp in precious air.

ÒSo, you think I donÕt love you? You think I lied? I didnÕt, Sakura. I was telling the truth. I love you, with all my heart. You must decide if you believe me or not.
