Naruto yawned widely and turned the page in his notebook. He couldn't sleep, so he did what he did best: wrote. Who knew a complete idiot like Naruto was good at writing poetry?
He tapped his pen against the blank page thoughtfully. Writer's block was extreamly evil in every way. How could he think when all he could think about was all the secrets Vega had kept from him.

Naruto looked down at his paper. 'Where'd that come from?' It wasn't the first time he'd written something strange, but it still freaked him out. He could never tell what, or who, he was writing about. These were the poems he didn't even show to Vega. She already thought he needed a psychaitrist.

"No wonder Vega likes you."
Naruto jumped off the couch he'd been sitting on and spun around. A boy with short black hair was standing behind him, arms crossed. 'I think I saw this guy in one of Vega's pictures.'
"You scared me!"Naruto growled.
"You're pathetic,"the boy mused boredly. "Anyone else around here would have felt me coming a mile away. What was Faust thinking letting a no-talent punk like you into Konoha Academy?"
Naruto was shell shocked. No one had ever talked to him like that, not his teachers, not the kids at school, no one. Even Vega is her teasing never called him a no-talent.
"And who made you the king of this school?!"Naruto snapped back. "V-kun could probably wipe the floor with you!"
The boy snickered. "The day Vega Arume beats me in a fight is the day I retire in shame! She can't beat me. I know every move she's ever learned."
"Like she'd ever share her secrets with a creep like you!"Naruto spat.
"You don't know her very well, then,"the boy taunted.
"Excuse me?!"Naruto shouted. "She's my best friend."
"Well then, best friend. Who gave Vega her nickname?"
Naruto froze. He must haved asked Vega a hundred times about her nickname, but he'd never learned where it came from.
"Thought so. I gave her the name Raywing after her powers emerged. Ray was the name of my great-grandfather's best friend, who sacrificed his life for the sake of my family. Vega was the first rage psychic born since his death. In anceint times psychics like Vega were caled Wings because their powers manifested in the form of wings when they're defending someone they love, in Vega's case, her brothers."
Naruto growled angrily."You're lying! V-kun doesn't have any brothers!"
"Tsk. Tsk. Wrong again, dobe."
"What was that?"Naruto snarled.
"I called you 'dobe'. Got a problem with it?"
Naruto's hands balled up into fists. "Yeah, I got a problem smart guy. It's your face!"
He charged at the black haired boy, but hit only air.
"Can't you go any faster than that, dobe?"He was standing on the stairs, looking bored. "You're not even worth my time."
He turned around and walked up the stairs.
"Get back here!"Naruto shouted.
"Don't waste your time on him, Naruto-kun."
Ishtar was standing in the doorway leading out to the hall. She crossed the room and smiled at Naruto.
"Uchiha-sama's the strongest fighter in the school. Even Vega-kun is scared of him. Just stay out of his way or you'll probably end up in the hospital."
Naruto growled. "He can't be that tough."
"Walk with me."It sounded like more of a request that an order.
Naruto followed her outside and into the forest behind the house. Ishtar was quiet for several minutes.
"You know, everything Uchiha-sama said was true. He's the one who gave Vega- kun her nickname. He's much stronger than her, but he still has his own weird respect for her. Probably because they're in the same position."
"And that would be what?"Naruto asked coldly.
"They're both the heads of dying families,"Ishtar explained. "Didn't Vega-kun tell you that?"
"It took her five years just to tell me her last name,"Naruto grumbled.
Ishtar closed her eyes sadly. "I'm not really surprised. Vega-kun never really liked the idea of being head of the Arume family. She hates responsibility of any kind."
"Coulda fooled me,"Naruto muttered.
"She probably didn't tell you about the Elementals, did she?"
"The what?"
"People who have elemental powers. Like Vega, when she flew out that window, she's a psychic. She's not really all that strong, it takes a lot of energy just to hover a few feet off the ground. But she can be deadly when she's mad."
"Can everyone around here do that?"Naruto asked.
Ishtar nodded. "I control lava, and my cousin Raikin controls lightning. Your friend Sasuke controls fire, and he also has a powerful advanced bloodline, called the Sharingan eye, which is why he's so strong."
"Oh, great, now I feel like even more of an outsider than usual,"Naruto muttered.
"Don't say things like that,"Ishtar scolded. "My dad wouldn't let just anyone into Konoha. Whatever Vega-kun sees in you, my dad does too. You'll learn to fit in, eventually. You should be greatful you don't have to put up with our powers."
"Why?! That would be so cool!"Naruto shouted.
"We're forever bound to this school and everything in it,"Ishtar explained. "and because of our powers, it's hard for us to fit in among normal humans. That's why this school was founded in the first place, as a haven for people like the students here. Most of us die young, before we even hit twenty, because of all the excess energy our powers require us to use. One of Vega's brothers died only a week after he was born because his powers were so unstable. It's more like a disease than a gift. Only those who are truely powerful will live very long, and I'm not one of them."
Naruto went quiet, watching the green tressed girl. She was small for their age, barely coming to Naruto's shoulders, and their was a deffinate tiredness in the way she walked, one he often saw in Vega when she thought no one was around. She smiled sadly and shook her head.
"My dad's the family doctor. He can predict up to the month when most of us will die, he got the exact days for Ichiro and Kitsune. He refuses to tell us, though, but I heard him telling my mom one night. He said I'm gonna die right before I turn sixteen. "
"What about V-kun?"Naruto asked quietly.
"He won't tell anyone,"Ishtar muttered, running her hand through her grren hair. "I think he's scared of something. Like if he actually says it, it'll come true for sure. When aunt Maya died, the adults predicted the end of the Arume family was coming. I don't think Vega-kun's gonna live long enough to have kids, and if she doesn't then the family will die. And once Arume dies, the school will probably die with it."
Suddenly something moved on the edge of Naruto's vision. He spun around and was greeted by a set of long, jagged teeth.
Sasuke watched Naruto and Ishtar walk out of the house, then quickly turned and headed down the hall to find Vega.
"I was wondering when I'd see you,"she mused as Sasuke barged into the room. "And you still don't know how to knock."
"Ishtar's run off with you friend,"Sasuke reported dully.
"So I noticed,"Vega said, looking out the window. "What is that boy thinking? Going out into the forest unarmed and unprepaired."
"He learned it from you,"
Vega swung her legs over the edge of the window sill and jumped onto the ground. "So, how has life been without me around?"
"Boring,"Sasuke replied bluntly. "The most interesting thing that's happened in the last two years was Sakura discovering the downsides to being a woman."
Vega grinned and walked out into the hallway. "Figures. Well, you certainly won't have to worry about being bored anymore. Naruto's eating habits alone can keep most people entertained for hours."
Sasuke rolled his eyes. "Why are you so attached to that no-talent?"
Vega stopped and leaned over the banister of the common room. "He's not a no-talent, Sasuke, and you know it. He's done some pretty incredible things in a desperate situation."
"Name one."
Vega held up a finger. "He free fell ten stories out of our apartment window and landed, on his feet, unscathed." She help up the next one. "He can change into a girl at will."
"That's nice to know."
"I've never seen him break a bone in the ten years I've known him."
"Unlike you."
Vega shot Sasuke a scalding look. "This coming from mister 'I broke every bone in my body before I was ten.'?"
"You just don't know when to quit, do you? No wonder you two get along so well."
Vega stuck out her tongue at him and jumped over the banister. Sasuke rolled his eyes and followed her.
"Why'd Aya have to make that one damned wish?"Vega asked. "She just had to have me back here, didn't she?"
Sasuke shook his head. "We all know you don't want to be here, but you've got to make the best of it. It's your job to watch over this school and everyone in it."
"You know there's nothing I hate more than responsibility,"Vega snarled. "I would rather gouge my own eyes out than take control of this hell hole. I hate this place and everything in it."
"You're lying again, Arume,"Sasuke scolded. "This place is your home, and I highly doubt you want Shaka to control it."
Vega wheeled around. "What?"
"Shaka's the closest blood relative you have, so as long as you deny your claim as head of the Arume family, then he gets it all."Sasuke shrugged nonchalantly. "And I'm damn sure Ishtar and Raikin won't last long if he does get his hands on our school."
Vega stared out the window into the dark night. "I won't do it, Sasuke. Ichiro was a leader, not me. I'm not meant for something like this."
"Isn't that why the Elements House exists?"Sasuke asked, following Vega's gaze. "The Elements House was formed by your great-grandfather so that each head of your family wouldn't have to shoulder the responsibility alone. You of all people should remember the stories of our great-grandparents."
Vega groaned and put her head against the glass window. "How could I forget? Arume Legato, Uchiha Kai, Hyuga Riku, Soriku Hikari, and Uzumaki Nakano, the first five elementals who led Konoha Academy. Legato used the fortune he inherited from his family to found a haven for orphan elementals like himself and his four best friends. That haven was Konoha Academy. For years Legato, Kai, Riku, Hikari, and Nakaru guided generations of students and taught them to master their powers, and like them, their children were just as close. When Legato died, his son inherited the school and the Arume family, and all hell broke lose. Yahiko couldn't control the school, so his friends stepped in and helped him fill his father's shoes. Ever since then the five families have been allied."
"And it hasn't changed at all,"Sasuke tugged on one of Vega's braids. "Hinata, Neji, Haku, and I stood by Ichiro when he controlled the school, and now we stand by you. And if Nakano's family hadn't died, they'd say no different."
Vega smiled. "But you're wrong, Sasuke. The Uzumaki line hasn't died yet, and Nakano's descendant is doing just what he's supposed to,"she chuckled. "he just doesn't know it yet."
"You're hopeless,"Sasuke muttered. "I'm going to bed and if you wake me up for any reason-"
"I know, I know,"Vega batted at Sasuke's nose. "Neji's not the only one capable of breaking my nose. Go to bed. I don't want you to be a complete grump tomorrow morning."
Sasuke growled and retreated upstairs. "Good night, Daddy's Girl."
"Night,"Vega yawned. "Ichiro."
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!"
Vega straightened up. She knew that scream.
"That idiot!"Vega roared as she bolted for the front door. "I can't believe him!"
By the time she reached Ishtar and Naruto, things had already taken a turn for the worst. A large human-like demon had Ishtar pinned to a tree, and Naruto was lying uncnscious under one of it's feet.
"Kuso,"Vega muttered. "I hate saving people."
She charged and the demon and slammed into it's side with the force of a mad bull. The demon wobbled on one leg, then fell over with a crash. Ishtar collapsed at the tree's base, coughing up large amounts of blood.
"You moron!"Vega snapped as she approached Ishtar. "What were you thinking, taking a fresh blood like Naruto out here when you know there are demons all over this forest! I should kill you now!"
"You may want to save it for after you've killed that thing,"Ishtar whispered, pointing over Vega's shoulder.
Vega spun around to find herself nose to nose with the demon.
"That hurt."
"NOT AS MUCH AS THIS WILL!"Naruto rammed haphazardly into the demon's back.
Vega slapped her forehead. "Never go for the back."
Naruto fell back on the ground and the demon spun around.
"You're going to regret that, little Kyuubi,"the demon snarled, lowering his face and baring his fangs. "you'll make a nice midnight snack."
Naruto squeezed his eyes shut and tried to sheild his face with his arms. He wasn't ready to die. He still hadn't found a girlfriend! He still hadn't learned everything about Vega and Konoha Academy! 'I can't die yet!!!' But the bite never connected. Naruto opened his eyes just in time to see Vega be thrown across the clearing and slammed into a large tree. Her arms was a tattered mess.
"I'll worry about you later,"the demon snarled and went after Vega. "You've been a thorn in my side too long, Vega Arume."
Naruto paniced. He couldn't let his best friend die at this thing's hands, not after everything she'd saved him from.
"V-kun!!!"
There was a loud crack and a huge vine exploded from the ground and wrapped around the demon. Naruto staggered to his feet and approached the confussed demon.
"I won't let you hurt her,"Naruto snarled in a very un-Naruto voice. "this school is my home, and the people in it are my family. I won't let some no-class oni destroy that!"
The vines tightened and the demon gave an ear-splitting shreik as it was cut into hundreds of pieces. It's blood poured down like crimson rain.
Naruto licked some of the blood off his arm and gave a very vulpine grin. "I'm the only one allowed to hurt them."
He took another step, then collapsed, completely exhausted.

I thought that was a pokemon! What do you mean V-kun might lose her arm?! Stop blaming me, stupid Sasuke! ARG!!! I haven't even been here a day and all hell's already broken lose! What the....? Vega grinned and walked out into the hallway. "Figures. Well, you certainly won't have to worry about being bored anymore. Naruto's eating habits alone can keep most people entertained for hours."
Sasuke rolled his eyes. "Why are you so attached to that no-talent?"
Vega stopped and leaned over the banister of the common room. "He's not a no-talent, Sasuke, and you know it. He's done some pretty incredible things in a desperate situation."
"Name one."
Vega held up a finger. "He free fell ten stories out of our apartment window and landed, on his feet, unscathed." She help up the next one. "He can change into a girl at will."
"That's nice to know."
"I've never seen him break a bone in the ten years I've known him."
"Unlike you."
Vega shot Sasuke a scalding look. "This coming from mister 'I broke every bone in my body before I was ten.'?"
"You just don't know when to quit, do you? No wonder you two get along so well."
Vega stuck out her tongue at him and jumped over the banister. Sasuke rolled his eyes and followed her.
"Why'd Aya have to make that one damned wish?"Vega asked. "She just had to have me back here, didn't she?"
Sasuke shook his head. "We all know you don't want to be here, but you've got to make the best of it. It's your job to watch over this school and everyone in it."
"You know there's nothing I hate more than responsibility,"Vega snarled. "I would rather gouge my own eyes out than take control of this hell hole. I hate this place and everything in it."
"You're lying again, Arume,"Sasuke scolded. "This place is your home, and I highly doubt you want Shaka to control it."
Vega wheeled around. "What?"
"Shaka's the closest blood relative you have, so as long as you deny your claim as head of the Arume family, then he gets it all."Sasuke shrugged nonchalantly. "And I'm damn sure Ishtar and Raikin won't last long if he does get his hands on our school."
Vega stared out the window into the dark night. "I won't do it, Sasuke. Ichiro was a leader, not me. I'm not meant for something like this."
"Isn't that why the Elements House exists?"Sasuke asked, following Vega's gaze. "The Elements House was formed by your great-grandfather so that each head of your family wouldn't have to shoulder the responsibility alone. You of all people should remember the stories of our great-grandparents."
Vega groaned and put her head against the glass window. "How could I forget? Arume Legato, Uchiha Kai, Hyuga Riku, Soriku Hikari, and Uzumaki Nakano, the first five elementals who led Konoha Academy. Legato used the fortune he inherited from his family to found a haven for orphan elementals like himself and his four best friends. That haven was Konoha Academy. For years Legato, Kai, Riku, Hikari, and Nakaru guided generations of students and taught them to master their powers, and like them, their children were just as close. When Legato died, his son inherited the school and the Arume family, and all hell broke lose. Yahiko couldn't control the school, so his friends stepped in and helped him fill his father's shoes. Ever since then the five families have been allied."
"And it hasn't changed at all,"Sasuke tugged on one of Vega's braids. "Hinata, Neji, Haku, and I stood by Ichiro when he controlled the school, and now we stand by you. And if Nakano's family hadn't died, they'd say no different."
Vega smiled. "But you're wrong, Sasuke. The Uzumaki line hasn't died yet, and Nakano's descendant is doing just what he's supposed to,"she chuckled. "he just doesn't know it yet."
"You're hopeless,"Sasuke muttered. "I'm going to bed and if you wake me up for any reason-"
"I know, I know,"Vega batted at Sasuke's nose. "Neji's not the only one capable of breaking my nose. Go to bed. I don't want you to be a complete grump tomorrow morning."
Sasuke growled and retreated upstairs. "Good night, Daddy's Girl."
"Night,"Vega yawned. "Ichiro."
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!"
Vega straightened up. She knew that scream.
"That idiot!"Vega roared as she bolted for the front door. "I can't believe him!"
By the time she reached Ishtar and Naruto, things had already taken a turn for the worst. A large human-like demon had Ishtar pinned to a tree, and Naruto was lying uncnscious under one of it's feet.
"Kuso,"Vega muttered. "I hate saving people."
She charged and the demon and slammed into it's side with the force of a mad bull. The demon wobbled on one leg, then fell over with a crash. Ishtar collapsed at the tree's base, coughing up large amounts of blood.
"You moron!"Vega snapped as she approached Ishtar. "What were you thinking, taking a fresh blood like Naruto out here when you know there are demons all over this forest! I should kill you now!"
"You may want to save it for after you've killed that thing,"Ishtar whispered, pointing over Vega's shoulder.
Vega spun around to find herself nose to nose with the demon.
"That hurt."
"NOT AS MUCH AS THIS WILL!"Naruto rammed haphazardly into the demon's back.
Vega slapped her forehead. "Never go for the back."
Naruto fell back on the ground and the demon spun around.
"You're going to regret that, little Kyuubi,"the demon snarled, lowering his face and baring his fangs. "you'll make a nice midnight snack."
Naruto squeezed his eyes shut and tried to sheild his face with his arms. He wasn't ready to die. He still hadn't found a girlfriend! He still hadn't learned everything about Vega and Konoha Academy! 'I can't die yet!!!' But the bite never connected. Naruto opened his eyes just in time to see Vega be thrown across the clearing and slammed into a large tree. Her arms was a tattered mess.
"I'll worry about you later,"the demon snarled and went after Vega. "You've been a thorn in my side too long, Vega Arume."
Naruto paniced. He couldn't let his best friend die at this thing's hands, not after everything she'd saved him from.
"V-kun!!!"
There was a loud crack and a huge vine exploded from the ground and wrapped around the demon. Naruto staggered to his feet and approached the confussed demon.
"I won't let you hurt her,"Naruto snarled in a very un-Naruto voice. "this school is my home, and the people in it are my family. I won't let some no-class oni destroy that!"
The vines tightened and the demon gave an ear-splitting shreik as it was cut into hundreds of pieces. It's blood poured down like crimson rain.
Naruto licked some of the blood off his arm and gave a very vulpine grin. "I'm the only one allowed to hurt them."
He took another step, then collapsed, completely exhausted.

Meg:Ugh. Naruto, get the preview for chapter 4 done already so I can go to bed.
Naruto:Next time on Hold On : I wake up in the hospital with one hell of a headache wondering what hit me. Now what's going on? I'm not an elemental! And what the hell is a nine-tails?! I thought that was a pokemon! What do you mean V-kun might lose her arm?! Stop blaming me, stupid Sasuke! ARG!!! I haven't even been here a day and all hell's already broken lose! What the....? Legendary five? Sounds like a rock band. Oh well, at least Haku's nice. Maybe she'll explain things to me. WHAT DO YOU MEAN HAKU AND ISHTAR ARE BOYS?! STUPID SASUKE!!!
