Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Why Do You Love Me? ❯ New school, new life ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Okay, new story wah-hoo. I came up with this idea because of inspiration, okay? I made it my own though, and I'm not copying off of anyone.

Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto. There, happy?

I cracked my knuckles and rested them on the perfectly polished keys. Just recently me and my band mates had decided we needed a break from the lime light. Adhering to our request, our manager, Ebisu, bought us this new house in a small town in Japan, signed us up for high school and flew us out here. So there I was sitting in the new music room.

I glanced over at the clock and sighed. The bright red numbers were flashing 12:37a.m. I inwardly growled at my insomnia and began to play.

You came to me
In seamless sleep and slipped right in
Behind my eyes
On the back of my mind
We swam a sea of pretty sights and chandelier skys
I swore I could feel you breath
It was all so real to me

The light had slipped through the window
The morning ripped you awake

Don't wake me up
I am still dreaming
The story's undone
Unravel at the seams
Don't wake me up
Death is misleading
And when I fall asleep
Sleep with your ghost

I looked in the dark
The room calm and cold
The quiet hollow
I am such a haunted soul
Your ghost has gone to bed
It's all cold

The light had slipped through the window
The morning ripped you awake

Don't wake me up
I am still dreaming
The story's undone
Unravel at the seams
Don't wake me up
Death is misleading
And when I fall asleep
Sleep with your ghost

Oh you were a fire caught in a storm
Memories like embers keep us warm
You will leave me in the morning
Leave me

The light had slipped through the window
The morning ripped you awake
The light had slipped through the window
The morning ripped you awake
The light had slipped through the window
The morning ripped you awake

I finished off playing the last measures of the song, and still felt awake as ever. I hadn't slept in around a week, yet no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't sleep. Perhaps I was just overly anxious for starting school tomorrow, maybe it was just my over active mind keeping me awake, but whatever the reason I continued to play songs for a few hours.

I didn't care if my friends heard, because even if they did, it'd probably lull them back to sleep. Plus they wouldn't hear the lyrics, just the piano, I was pretty sure of that.

A few hours later as I was finishing up writing a song that I named Wine Red when I felt someone's presence at the door. I turned on the stool to see Shino Aburame, the band's male singer and Rhythmic Guitarist, standing in the doorway.

"Wrote us a new song?" He asked yawning.

I nodded meekly. "Nothing else to do in the middle of the night, is there?"

He shrugged. "Going to add guitar, drums, and bass?"

I thought for a minute then shook my head. "We should do that all together. After all, it's not my band, it's everyone's band."

"I see. So why exactly are you up at-" He glanced over at the clock, "-six-thirty in the morning writing a song?"

"Insomnia."

"Oh."

Silence filled the room as I looked back over my new sheet music. "What do you think about this lyric?" I asked suddenly.

"The whole thing or a specific line?" He asked me.

"Whole thing."

"It sounds fine. Why?"

I shrugged. "Some of it is for you to sing."

"As usual."

"Not usual."

"Whatever."

"Go back to bed."

"Why should I? You haven't slept in a week."

I glared at him. "It's not like I don't want to sleep. I wish I could be totally normal and fall asleep at night, but oh no, I have insomnia. Not to mention that when I do sleep, it's way below average and I have nightmares."

"Oh, that's true! And you haven't slept here yet, so the neighbors are going to think you're dying or something when you do."

I looked at him in annoyance. "Thank you so much for that support." I said sarcastically.

"Just saying. The first time we slept anywhere near you, and you started screaming bloody murder from your nightmare, we all freaked out." Shino said blandly. "Man, even the neighbors came up to the door to see what was going on."

"Well, lucky for us we only have one neighboring house here. Less neighbors to deal with."I continued on with my sarcasm. "Anyway, when's school?"

"Seven-Fourtyfive." He answered easily.

I looked at the clock and stood up hastily. "That only gives me an hour to get ready!" I schreeched. That oughta wake up the other girls, but it probably wouldn't.

"Are you trying to make us all go deaf?" Shino asked in annoyance.

"Not my fault, I just need a lot of time to get ready!"

"Oh whatever."

I opened my mouth to snap back but was interrupted by the unforgettable sound of Ebisu shouting for everyone to wake up.

"What's he doing here?" I wondered aloud.

"If you wonder, then go see." He snickered and walked out of the room. I followed and walked out to the living room.

"KIMIKO!" Ebisu shouted out, pulling me into a hug. "At least someone's up!"

I rolled my eyes and pushed away from him. "I'm always up, smart ass."

"Oh right..." He shrugged. "Well I expect the others won't be waking up for a while, no matter how loud I shout, correct?"

"Obviously if I can sit in the music room and play piano all night." I answered.

"Well I have your schedules so will you give them to the other girls? Everyone's is the same so it doesn't really matter." Ebisu explained.

"Okay, just leave them on the kitchen table or something. But before I forget, this is a private school, ne?"

He nodded, walking over to the kitchen table to set down the papers.

"So then we have uniforms?" I asked.

"I gave them to you all earlier this week!"

I thought for a second. "Oh right! I tailored it and everything, I totally forgot." I laughed at my own stupidity. "Well I'm going to go get ready. Have fun doing whatever it is you do."

"What about breakfast?!" He asked exasperatedly.

I sighed, rolling my eyes. "I don't know. Half of us probably won't eat. If you're so worried about it then go shake the other girls awake and make breakfast." I turned to leave knowing that he was just freaking out about us.

I walked upstairs and into my room. It had a nice view of our beautiful backyard and a nice balcony. I'd barely even used it yet so it was practically spotless. I had a guitar and mini-grand piano right in the room despite the fact that I preferred to use the ones in the music room. There was a nice bookshelf and desk as well. Lastly I had my vanity and giant king-sized four poster bed.

The walls and down comforter were maroon. My bookshelf and desk were black along with the door and and kind of lining. Finally, the curtains hanging around my bed were a charcoal grey.

I sat in front of my vanity and surveyed my appearance. My hair was almost the same as I'd left it the night before, only slightly flatter. Oddly my hair is naturally a electric blue like my eyes, but being the crazy, and easily bored person I am, I've died my hair numerous times. Currently the middle layer of my hair is blonde, while I have teal and purple highlights, with pink side bangs. My hair runs a few inches below my shoulders.

After playing with my hair for a few minutes I decided on just going crazy with it. I did some crimping to the top layer and puffed it out, when I was done with my hair I debated on what to do with my eyes.

I looked over to my bed where I'd laid out my uniform. I'd tailored it to be a pleaded black skirt that went just above my knees. I had fun making the blouse to be form fitting, with sleeves that went just below my elbows, excentuated with two inch high slanted cuffs, and I was planning on wearing black flats with white stars on them.

The old movie colors theme wasn't preferrablefor me, so I looked in the mirror and tried to think of some way to change it up a little. Quickly I applied a thin layer of black eyeliner underneath my eyes. Next I applied it thickly on top in a way that caused my eyes to appear slightly more slanted than they already are. Lastly I put some red shadow over my top liner, then used red liner to create an unfinished half-circle under my bottom liner on my right eye, and thickened up the bottom liner for the left eye.

Figuring that'd be enough I slipped on my blouse, but before putting on my skirt, I pulled some red and white striped thigh-high socks out of my small walk-in closet and slipped them on, along with pulling on a matching tie. I put on my skirt and flats, stuck my Etnies in my black backpack with uneven red pinstripes, along with my gym clothes and school supplies, and ran downstairs.

"KIMIKO! What are you wearing?!" Ebisu shouted out exasperatedly.

"My uniform." I answered simply. "I modified it. I mean c'mon, uniforms are so old school. Plus I like wearing slim fit clothes and the blouse is the closest I'm going to get."

Ebisu sighed. "Just don't get into trouble."

"Deal." I turned to everyone else, who were all wearing their uniforms untailored and sitting at the kitchen table eating their breakfasts. "Can we go? I don't want to be overly late."

"What about breakfast?" One of the girls asked me. She had brown hair that she wore in two buns on the sides of her head.

"I don't know, I'll eat something later." I replied shrugging.

"Really now Kimiko. You have some of the worst habits." The same girl continued.

"Just shut it TenTen." I growled. "Let's just go guys!"

A blond girl that wore her hair in four pony tails rolled her eyes and stood up. "She's right, we really should get going. It'll take ten minutes to get there and school starts in eight."

"Thank you Temari!" I said, slightly annoyed. Shino, TenTen, and the last girl who had short blackish-blue hair, stood up as well.

I began heading to the front hall when Ebisu stopped me. "Wait! I made you all lunches! Pick them up, they're on the counter."

I followed his instruction and miraculously was able to fit my tubber wear container into my backpack. On the way out the door I grabbed my skateboard, while- my last friend- Hinata and Shino got their bikes, and TenTen and Temari laced up their skates, stuffing their normal shoes into their backpacks.

A little while later we arrived at the school. Classes had already started, but we were new, you had to give us at least a little slack. We checked our schedules and headed to look for our first class- Language Arts with Hatake Kakashi.

After a few minutes we found it and someone pushed open the door. Behind the desk sat a man with sort-of spiked silver hair, wearing and an eyepatch and mask. I raised my eyebrow but entered the classroom as if I noticed nothing out of the ordinary.

"You 5 would be the new students, I presume." The man said. We all nodded in reponse. "I'm Hatake Kakashi, you can all just call me Kakashi-Sensei or Sensei- it doesn't really matter- and I'll be your language arts teacher for the year. Can you all introduce yourselves?"

Shino stepped up first and began his introduction. "Aburame Shino, age 16, my birthday is January 23rd, and I suggest you not annoy me."

"I'm Temari, age 16, my birthday is August 23rd, and if you mess with my friends in anyway, you're definitely going to get it."

"I'm TenTen, same age, birthday's March 9th, and well I don't know what else I could say." She accompanied her last statement with a shrug.

"I-I'm Hyuuga Hinata, Neji is my cousin in case you were w-wondering," She waved timidly at one of the boys in the class, who grunted in reponse. "And my friends all say s-shyness is my dominant q-quality."

As I stepped up to give my introduction a girl in the class suddenly gasped. "Kimiko is that you?!"

'Oh god I know that annoying voice' I thought.

"You know her, Sakura?" Kakashi asked.

Sakura looked over at me. "She's my sister." There were a few mutters of amazement throughout the room. "So Kimiko, I haven't seen you in a few years."

I grunted. "I can't help what happens over my lifetime."

"Sakura, can you let her introduce herself?" Kakashi asked.

She pouted, crossing her arms.

"Real mature." I muttered, then switched to a louder tone and introduced myself. "Obviously I'm Haruno Kimiko. Sakura is in fact my older sister by one year, but we started school the same year, which makes me 15. If you're wondering, the blue in my hair is natural, the rest is dye. For the last two years or so I've lived in America."

One of the girls in class raised her hand. "Yes Ino?" Kakashi asked.

"Why is her uniform all freaky?"

I rolled my eyes. "It's called individuality. I hate uniforms, and therefore tailored and accesorized mine. Plus I find the whole 'girls have to wear mini-skirts' thing totally sexist."

"Very well. Let's find seating for all of you." Kakashi said scanning the room. "TenTen, you can sit next to Hinata's cousin." She nodded and took her seat. "Hinata you can sit next to Naruto."

A blond boy in the front row perked up, smiling at Hinata. Se smiled back timidly before slowly walking over and sitting down.

"Temari will sit next to Shikamaru." Kakashi continued. She looked around the classroom for anyone showing signs that told her she should sit next to them, but saw no one. Kakashi sighed. "He's the one that's asleep at his desk."

"Oh." She nodded and went to sit in her seat.

"Shino, you can sit next to Kimiko's sister." He merely took his seat, without a response at all. "And Kimiko, you can sit next to Gaara."

A red-headed boy looked over at me. Black circles surrounded his cerulean eyes, and above his left eye he had the kanji for love tattooed in red. He surveyed me with piercing eyes as I walked slowly over to the empty desk next to him. It was the desk next to the window in the front row, which wouldn't have been such a bad place to be if it weren't for this boy. I hate to admit it, but he scares me a little bit.

"So, today's assignment is on the board. When you're done you can go ahead and talk, I don't care." Kakashi announced.

Everyone followed instructions and I finished the assignment quickly. I was probably one of the first people done. I stared out the window listening as TenTen tried to talk to the boy sitting behind me. A few seconds later Temari showed up at my desk and leaned on the window sill, she was soon followed by TenTen and Hinata. Shino even showed up a little while later.

"Seems like no one knows we're Suicidal Temptation." I said quietly. I suddenly felt as if that boy- Gaara- was staring at me with his piercing eyes again. It was unnerving.

"That's what we wanted." Temari reminded us. "If we wanted to be haggled by stupid fanboys we'd still be in America wouldn't we."

Shino snickered. "You've already got fanboys here. Trust me."

I groaned. "That's wonderful." Suddenly I relaxed no longer feeling Gaara's piercing gaze. I turned slightly to see him walk to the back of the room and gather with a few of the other students.

Third Person

"Hey! Guys! Let's invite the new kids to hang out with us at lunch!" Naruto suggested excitedly. Sasuke, Shikamaru, Neji, and Gaara were standing in a group near Naruto's desk in the back of the room.

"Don't, they'll probably just be fangirls like all the rest of them." Sasuke said in annoyance.

Neji grunted. "One of them is my cousin."

Naruto looked over to Gaara expecting him to disagree, but he crossed his arms and stayed emotionless.

None of it mattered either way. Naruto just ignored them all. "Hey you girls!" Kimiko, Temari, TenTen, and Hinata looked over. Shino glared at him. "And Shino!" He added in. "Wanna hang out with me and my friends for lunch?"

TenTen shrugged. "Sure!"

"Great!" Naruto said happily before turning back to the guys.

Sasuke was glaring at him along, Gaara was still emotionless, Neji didn't seem to care too much, and Shikamaru muttered "Troublesome."

Kimiko's POV

A few minutes after Naruto invited us to lunch the bell rang and we gathered our stuff. After stepping out the door Naruto stopped us again.

"Let me give you guys a proper introduction." He said smiling. "Uzumaki Naruto! Age 16 and I love ramen!"

Out of the corner of my eye I swore I could see Hinata blushing but decided to ignore it. "Well then if you're going to be hospitable would you mind telling us how to get to the gym?" I asked.

He nodded enthusiastically. "Just follow me. Mind if I see your schedules?"

I nodded as we all began to follow him. "We all have the same schedule. Here." I handed him on of them.

He looked it over and laughed. "Me and my friends have the same schedule too!"

"Great." I said sarcastically.

Naruto led us to the locker rooms where we left him, got our lockers, got dressed, and headed into the gym where we gathered with Shino, Naruto and the rest of his friends.

"Hey girls...and guy." Naruto quickly added when Shino began to glare at him. I snickered. "These are my friends. Neji, Teme, Lazyass, and Gaara." He pointed to each as he said their "name".

"Teme and Lazyass?" I asked rolling my eyes, when I began to feel Gaara's piercing eyes on me again. I looked over at him prepared to glare, but when I caught his eyes I had a strange feeling and was forced to look away.

"That's what he calls Sasuke and Shikamaru." Neji said rolling his eyes.

"So little brother, what's up?" Temari asked.

I raised my eyebrow. "Temari, who are you talking to?" I asked.

But she didn't need to answer, considering he covered it for her.

"I am." Gaara said from behind me. His voice was odd. It was velvety, yet fierce and intimidating, all the while being beautifully freaky.

After a minute or so I realized I'd been staring at him, now that his piecring gaze wasn't on me. Thankful that no one had noticed I turned away.

Our group continued talking until a man called our class to attention. He had black hair in a bowl cut and thick black eyebrows. "Alright class!" He said, certainly not lacking in enthusiasm. "I see we have new students, so I'll introduce myself. I'm Gai-Sensei. Today we're going to be playing basketball." I smiled. I hated most of the sports usually played in PE, but basketball was actually okay with me. "So you new kids can join up with Naruto, Sasuke, Neji, Shikamaru, and Gaara on team 8."

Some of the boys in class face's fell as the girls became outraged. We ignored it, went to our assigned court and played. I couldn't help but notice that Gaara never bothered to run. He always walked but his shooting was amazing. I'd never seen anyone shoot like him, not even someone in the NBA.

Class seemed to end quickly, and I couldn't help but feel a little upset, I wanted to watch him play more. We all got dressed back into our uniforms and I checked my hair and makeup in my compact, before heading out for brunch.

It was spent happily chatting with the guys- who were apparently our new friends. All through brunch I felt somewhat uncomfortable though, and realized quickly that it was Gaara's penetrating gaze again, which was beginning to drive me insane.

After brunch the guys led us to our next class, which was cooking with Anko. She introduced herself when we arrived in class and told us to pair amoungst ourselves, and report back to her once we'd done so.

"There's five of us." TenTen said skeptically. "Does anyone mind being alone?"

"I will." I said easily. Being alone wasn't a problem for me after all my nights staying up by myself.

"You sure?" Temari asked. I nodded. "Well then, I'll pair with TenTen if Hinata and Shino don't mind working together." They shook their heads and we walked back over to Anko.

"Sensei, we decided that me and TenTen will be together, Hinata and Shino will be together, and Kimiko says she'll be alone." Temari reported.

"No need for her to be alone. She can partner with Gaara, he's been alone the whole year." Anko said.

My mouth dropped open. 'Wouldn't irony have this in store for me? Oh joy.'

"Now Hinata and Shino can have that station in the back, Temari and TenTen can go over there near the sinks, and Kimiko, Gaara's station is over by the window." Anko told us.

I nodded, and swallowing hard, walked over to him. He looked over at me and for a second I could swear the expression in his eyes was surprise, not his usual piercing look.

"Um...I'm sorry, Anko put us together..." I said quietly before redirecting my gaze to the floor.

He nodded. I looked at him somewhat surprised. I'd half expected him to become extremely annoyed.

I set my backpack down next to his and walked over to the unoccupied side of the station. Anko gave everyone the assignment of making fettucini alfredo.

"How well can you cook?" Gaara asked, startling me.

"Um...okay, I guess. I only make simple things though." I replied nervously.

He nodded. "How much do you hate to be bossed around?" His voice was enchanting and it took me several moments to realize what he was asking.

"Oh, well I kind of hate it..." I answered timidly. I felt like Hinata, and I never knew any one person could intimidate me this badly.

He looked at me, allowing me to survey his eyes. For once there was emotion...amusement perhaps? "Well then you'll just have to deal for today."

My eyes widened. I felt as if I should be angry, but couldn't muster the ability to get mad at all.

Class went by amazingly fast, considering. Gaara instructed me often, but rather than it getting on my nerves as it usually would, I waited patiently for each next instruction, just to hear his voice. It was also nice that he knew what he was doing, unlike many of the people that tell me what to do, which is most annoying of all.

After Cooking we had Social Studies with Asuma, and before I knew it our group was sitting in an odd circle on the stairs of the amputheatre.

I pulled the tubber wear container Ebisu had given me this morning from my backpack and opened it to find a nice assortment of sushi. I smiled, taking the chopsticks from the container and began to eat.

"Finally!" I heard TenTen saying. I looked over at her in confusion. "What? You haven't eaten since, like, lunch yesterday, right?"

I shrugged. "I think that was the last time I had a real meal." I answered, before taking a bite of my unagi. I noticed Gaara sitting next to his sister, slowly eating from a bento box. I mentally slapped myself for staring again and went back to my meal.

"So how do you all like school so far?" Naruto asked.

"It's good, but is Gai always that annoying?" Temari asked.

"Sadly." Sasuke answered. "And you're all lucky. Just wait until Lee gets back from being out sick."

"Who's Lee?" I asked, momentarily forgetting about Temari's younger brother.

"Gai's miniature." Neji answered easily. "The two of them waste a lot of classtime yelling out each other's names."

Shikamaru rolled his eyes muttering "Troublesome."

I glanced at him for a second before looking back to the current speaker.

"So volleyball try-outs are today?" TenTen asked.

Naruto nodded. "Me, Teme, and Neji always play."

I looked at them confused. "You guys play on the team? I thought they only had a circuit for girl's in schools."

"Barely any girls try out so they made it a co-ed team." Sasuke answered shrugging.

"Wow." I muttered. "So you're trying out then, TenTen?"

"I might." Shino said suddenly. I raised my eyebrow at him and he shrugged.

"I am." Temari said.

I looked in her direction, but instead was instead met with Gaara's stare. I looked down to his shoes instead, preferring not to meet his penetrating stare, when I noticed something. "Hey Gaara, how come you're not wearing a white shirt?"

I slowly looked up into his face, where for the first time all day he was smirking. "Sasuke pulled it off for me. His family funds the school."

I smiled, before turning to the raven-haired boy. "Sasuke, do you think you could pull a string or two more?"
"Why? You're pulling enough yourself." He said smartly.

I sighed. "C'mon, I'd really like to wear jeans. I don't like skirts."

He raised his eyebrow. "Hn."

Naruto rolled his eyes. "That's teme's way of saying 'yes' right now."

"Really?" I asked excitedly.

"Hn."

"Thanks!" I smiled at him.

"I'll tell you when I talk to them." He said blandly.

A little while later the bell rang and we headed off to 5th period science with Jiraiya. That had to have been the slowest class of the day with his being a major pervert. On the contrary, 6th period math with Iruka flew by. Soon I was sitting in the gym with the others watching Shino, Temari, TenTen, Naruto, Sasuke, and Neji warming up for try-outs.

After talking with Hinata for a few minutes I realized that Gaara had disappeared. I continued to talk with her until a while into the audition game when I grew extremely bored of sitting and waiting.

"Hey, Shikamaru."

"Hn."

I rolled my eyes. "Can you tell me where the music room is?"

"Room 5-A. Meaning 5th floor, first door to the right on the right of the building. The teacher's Kurenai."

"Thanks. Hinata, have someone call me when auditions are over, okay? I'm going to check out the music room." She nodded and I was off.

A few minutes later I arrived at the room. The door was cracked open and from within I heard someone singing the song Golden by one of my favorite bands. They were being accompanied by flawless piano playing, and both parts of the song were so good I felt chills run up and down my spine. I clutched my Clandestine Industries necklace and listened.

How cruel is the golden rule
When the lives we lived are only golden plated

And I knew that the lights of the city
Were too heavy for me
Though I carried karats for everyone to see
And I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies
And all the lovers with no time for me
And all of the mothers raise their babies to stay away from me

Tongues on the sockets of electric dreams
Where the sewage of youth drowns the spark of my dreams

And I knew that the lights of the city were too heavy for me
Though I carried Karats for everyone to see
And I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies
And all the lovers with no time for me
And all of the mothers raise their babies to stay away from me
And prey they don't grow up to be

When the song ended my eyes fluttered open after having to close them halfway through the song. I heard the shuffling of papers inside the room and decided it would be safest if I just left, after a momentary debate over that or walking in to see who it was. I walked swiftly back to the gym where try-outs were just finishing up, and sat down next to Hinata again. We waited for the others to get dressed and grouped back together.

As a group we walked out to the front lawn and parted. The guys went off to the parking lot as we headed back to the bike cage where we'd kept all our stuff locked up. I grabbed my board, Hinata and Shino unlocked their bikes, and Temari and TenTen got their skates from their backpacks.

"Hey guys, I want to go skate, so I'm going to rocket home and change, alright?" I asked. They all nodded as my pulled my blue iPod Nano out of my backpack, turned it on and started to skate home quickly, while singing the lyrics to all my favorite songs.

I sat out on my bedroom balcony and looked out upon our backyard. It was giant, beautiful, and overflowing with life. There were numerous types of greenery, a koi pond, and even a nice white gazeebo, but none of it was what was so enchanting. Not when all I could think about was that voice. It was unlike anything else I'd ever heard. I had to find out who's it was, or at the very least hear it again.

I watched as the backyard's beauty was turned in nothing but blackness from the last of my roommate's lights going out. I stayed for a few minutes as I thought more about that song. After a little while I found myself playing the song over and over in my head until I had a replica that was almost exact, only no memory could replicate it to a true perfection.

After going on like that I found myself half-asleep for the first time in a week. Slowly I dragged myself up, as to not chase this sleep away, and walked over to the bed. I got under the covers and within a few minutes I was asleep.

R&R loves. The other chapters probably won't be that long. Plus the fact that it's all randomly bolded is because mediaminer's being stupid, and for some reason is bolding my chapter. It's not supposed to be in bold and since I've tried basically everything to get it normal and nothing works I'm going to leave it.
