Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ World Collision ❯ Why hadn't I noticed before? ( Chapter 8 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Alright, here's a new chapter! If you can, please help me recruit more people into reading this story if they'd be interested in it… Because I'm probably going to make this into one of those real long stories that tend to only keep readers who joined in before it got big… (Stories with a lot of words look rather intimidating to read to new readers.) Anyhow, I hope you'll enjoy! Of course, I'll always love to get feedback from ya'll.

Just as the sun reached the tip of the horizon, Jessica woke from a loud thump beside her. Jolting away from where she last lay, she fell back on her bottom as she looked up to the young blond man who stood before her. “Alright,” Deidara said, trying to get both the Jessica and Sasori's attention at once. “We'll head out to the west now. By night fall, we should reach a travelers' village.”
The girl's head perked up as she heard the words. “We're stopping at a village?” She asked as if she couldn't believe her ears.
Turning to see his now jittery slave, who held her hands up in fists out of excitement, he looked at her dully. “Yes, that's what I just said wasn't it? U'h, I can already tell this is going to be a long day.” He replied as he turned his face away from her as he rested it on his hand, letting a small smile appear on his face. At least it wouldn't be all tiresome like it was when he traveled alone with Sasori.
The news that Jessica had just heard was music to her hears. They were going to a village! There would be soft beds, tasty meals, and other people! The only thing that made her too hesitant to jump up and down a few times was the presence of the two men.
“I don't want to hear this girl's blabbering mouth all day.” Sasori stated as he walked passed the girl who had by now lost most of the look of enthusiasm. Her eyes still showed happiness though, despite the plan look on her face now.
“Lord, please let me stay at this place for a while, please!” She begged in her mind. “I'm so tired of walking everywhere, and I've wanted to sleep in a comfortable bed for the past three days now that I've had to sleep on the ground!”
As her thoughts floated around in her mind, she looked around the forest they had spent the night in. Under the bushes that grew wildly here and there, were piles of rotting dead leaves, which must have laid there since it was littered there in the fall. The trees themselves had bright green leaves that told that they were still rather new in the world, and had begun their duties of supplying nutrients for their trees not that long before. Beneath her lay the new and old strands of grass that grew from the moist earth, along with patches of soft, dark green moss here and there. It must have been sometime in spring, but what month? She was afraid to ask either of the men what month it was, in fear of them thinking her stupid or the fact that they might have different names for the months. This was a totally different world; they might have longer or perhaps shorter years than earths. And yet, if this was exactly like the Naruto world, she was sure that the months would be the same. To be safe though, she wouldn't press the question.
As they turned down different pathway-like areas, Jessica saw that they were coming to a clearing in the woods. Squinting, she tried looking closely as they approached the area as a slight smile formed on her face.
“A road,” she stated out loud as she shaded her eyes from the dull glare of the sun with one of her hands. She didn't think that a road was so close to where they stayed the night before, even though the rested in the middle of the forest. Perhaps the two of them had already came throughout the forest during a different occasion? Maybe this was a short cut one of them had discovered a while back? It didn't really matter that much though; the fact that they were going to travel on a road was enough to fill her mind. Feeling relieved, she sighed as she felt more secure now that there was a smaller possibility of getting lost. At least when they were on the road, they would see signs here and there that would tell how far away the village would be. Even if the village was very far away, at least they'd be on something that showed that people came throughout there quite often.
“Oh, Sasori-san, I need to go piss in the woods.” The blond man stated before popping back into the area shrouded with trees. As his partner rolled his eyes, and commented on how he should have went before they headed off, the girl stared blankly in the direction he ran off in. After blinking hard a few times, she quickly turned the other direction as she made an ugly face.
“Oh gee-wiz, I really didn't need to know that,” she murmured under her breathe as she covered her face with her hand.
“Be quite brat; you shouldn't dishonor your master with remarks like that. You'll find yourself killed someday with that outspoken mouth of yours,” the man beside her scolded as he stood waiting for his partner to return. Not another sound could be heard until her master came out of the woods again with a smug look on his face.
“Let's get on with the trip now.” He said as he looked out at the horizon and put his hands on his thighs. Now looking at her master dully, she sighed as she let her gaze drop to the ground. Within seconds of this though, her gaze lifted again as her eyes held a bewildered look in them for a moment. Did she see what she thought she saw? In his hands, she saw a… a mouth! She must have been more tired than she thought she had been, for she hand never noticed anything like that before on anyone. It could have been a possibility that he had a mouth in his hand; she wasn't on earth any longer. And yet something told her that it couldn't have been so. She must have been mistaken! If he did, then why hadn't she seen it for the past three days she'd been stuck with him?
“Is there a problem?” asked a voice from ahead of her. Blinking a few times, she then noticed that she had stopped dead in her tracks, and that the two men were a few yards ahead of her now.
“No, there's no problem,” she said shaking her dead as she sighed. “I'm just a bit tired I think.” Sasori then mumbled to himself about what a pain she was as he turned to continue walking.
“You'd think a slave would be use to sleeping on the ground by now.” He said as Jessica caught up with them. The girl felt like replying to this comment, to tell him that she hadn't been a slave since the day they'd bought her, but she knew it would be no use. He'd just think she was making up tales to try to get their sympathy or something in the like. Rolling her eyes, she put her eyes back on the road ahead of them that was now bathed in the warmth of the sun that now hung high in the blue sky.
“Wouldn't we get to the place faster if we travel on that bird thing you used before, Deidara-Sama?” She asked as she tilted her head. The man seemed to think about it for a moment before responding to her question.
“It would be faster, but it would use up my chakra.” He stated as he looked at the girl who showed that she was confused with his answer. “Look Omae; it isn't as if I don't pay for it to fly. It takes up my energy, and we don't need to be seen by everyone.”
Jessica's face was then filled with thought. “…So, you're like controlling the bird? Like, you `are the bird' and it does what you command but it's hard to do? If that's the case, it didn't seem challenging to you when I saw you do it the first time. You and Sasori-san were arguing the whole time. How I see it, we would be able to get to the village a lot quicker if we flew. I mean, you're already using a lot of energy by walking the whole way.”
The blond man then stopped in front of her with a rather stressed face. Jessica then saw that perhaps she spoke more than she should have. “I guess Sasori-san was right; my mouth will kill me some day.” She thought as she lowered her head a bit as she stared up at him.
“I guess you're right.” He said with a hand on his chin. Shaking his head, he pushed part of his cloak back from in front of him as he put his hand in the large pouch again. With wide eyes, the girl discovered that she hadn't been dreaming earlier when she thought that she saw a mouth on his hand! For now that she was up close, she saw the hand that munched on a glob of clay that had with drawn from the bag. As she watched with a face that was between disturbed and interested, she saw a clay bird pop out of the mouth a few seconds later. Once or twice, she thought that Deidara's gaze had landed on her, but neither of them commented on what the other did. Within seconds, the bird was on the ground, and the man had made the hand sign again as the clay figure grew to an immense size. “Alright, you get on first Omae.” He commanded, as the girl slowly averted her gaze onto the bird once the dust had begun to settle.
