Chapter 3

Shadows of the Past



Rei let out a yelp of pain as she slammed against the wall for the fourth time, and slid down. She was exhausted, for she had been fighting this thing for hours. A being of complete darkness and gray eyes, but had the shape and form of a human that she could have sworn she knew. That being looked to the right, and Rei's body followed slamming into the adjacent wall, leaving a mid-sized impact crater within it. Rei looked up once more, her eyes lidded, the only thing her body registering was pain.

The being grabbed both sides of her face and lifted her up into the air, and began applying pressure. 'Before I die,' Rei thought 'I should at least know the name of the thing who bested me.' And she strained hoarsely "W.who are you?" A toothy grin formed upon the beings lips, and it's gray eyes narrowed, "I am God." A loud cracking/squishing sound could be heard throughout the halls, as well as a scream of pure terror, as Rei bolted upright out of her bed, her body covered with sweat, her eyes wide with fear. She rested her head against her hands, and tried to calm herself down. 'What was that? Why did I see that?" Her mind quickly shifted from fear, to curious, as she had never in her life had a dream, let alone a nightmare.

Shinji Ikari however, was a completely different case. The VTOL had to make a slight pit stop within Germany, around one o'clock, and Misato had declared that they would stay the night there. As Shinji slipped into R.E.M, he found himself standing in the middle of an open grassy, flowered field that stretched for miles. "Where.. where am I?" His question went unanswered, but he found he wasn't alone, as the woman in the flowing pure white dress, encircled his arms around his neck, and rested her chin on his shoulder "Guess who?" Shinji smiled slightly "I would, but I don't even know your name." The woman smiled and walked around Shinji, and encircled her arms around his neck from the front, "Idola." Shinji smiled slightly "Idola? That's such a pretty name." The woman smiled back at Shinji, "Do you still wish to be strong?" Shinji sighed slightly, "I don't know, what good will being strong do me?" Idola gestured to her right, and before Shinji, were his mother and father, smiling happily at him, Asuka, wearing her yellow sundress, smiling at him, Rei, Touji, and everyone else he knew, stood their smiling at him, and they all spoke at the same time "Hi Shinji!" Shinji was bewildered "H.how!?" Idola smiled "You can take back everything that was taken from you Shinji. You can make everything right again. All you have to do is accept the gift I offer you." Shinji looked at her hopefully "How do I get this power?" Idola's smile widened "Look with the tab-"Misato's shrill voice pierced the air this time "Shinji? SHINJI!" Shinji's eyes snapped open, and he saw Misato standing above him, giving him a smug look. "What's that look for?" She pointed down, "Looks like little Shinji wants to come out to play." Shinji looked down, and was horrified at what he saw, and quickly covers himself. "Ahh! Misato!" Misato giggled at him as she turned away. "Maybe I should call you big Shinji instead." "That's NOT funny Misato!" Misato finally managed to stop laughing, to spit out what she had to say "We'll be leaving in a few minutes, so get your stuff ready.or I could go tell the pilots we need a little more time so you can deal with you.'little' problem." She started giggling again "NOT FUNNY MISATO!" Misato then went to the door "Fine fine. Anyways, get ready, we're leaving soon." Shinji sulked for a moment, but then his eyes sparkled with hope "The tab.the tablet? Something about the tablet?"





Asuka, lost within the deep recesses of her mind, was having a different experience. She lay on the floor, in a prone position, babbling about how she was useless and how she shouldn't live, when she heard something growl. "What the hell?" She sat up, and looked around, but all she saw was black. The growl came again, this time it sounded closer. "Who are you!?" Then a voice spoke, it was a male whispering something, "The Unholy Light is coming." Asuka looked around as her surroundings began to change. Tormented faces appeared upon the ground she stepped on, and the voice became louder "The Unholy Light is coming!" Asuka shouted back "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!" She looked down, and the faces were of everyone she had known. Misato, random Techies, "Kaji?" She stared at his face, which was stuck in a tormented scream. "THE UNHOLY LIGHT IS COMING!" Asuka covered her ears, and turned around, only to be surrounded by blackness, and confronted by a being of complete light, that resembled an Eva. "Wh.what are you?" Her eyes widened, as her mind felt his words 'I am Adam.' The machines surrounding Asuka's body started to beat faster, as her heartbeat began to increase.
