Chapter 3: Oblivion

 

 

`Just my luck... That bastard...Thing is still alive...' Shinji thought immediately after helping Rei rip the core out. `I coulda sworn that would kill it just like an Angel... Then again, this thing isn't an angel…'

Meanwhile, back in the silent control room...

“What happened!? Why isn't it dead yet?” Maya thought out loud to no one in particular, least of all herself…

“That doesn't matter anymore, all Eva's, pull back! We're changing our strategy to cope with this…irregularity.” Misato said to Maya then ordered Shinji and Rei.

“What are you planning Major?” Commander Ikari finally decided to take some action and become involved in the operation.

“I'm going to bomb the bastard...Sir...Do I have your authorization to use any means necessary to destroy the enemy?” Misato replied.

“Yes major you have my authorization to use any means necessary to destroy the enemy. I want this monstrosity destroyed under all circumstances, do you understand me? If we have to annihilate half the earth to destroy it, DO IT!” Commander Ikari replied.

“Understood Commander. Eva's, I'm ordering you to pull back and retreat in the safety zone being displayed on your side screen so far.

“Well, if that is all… Come Fuyutski, we have business to attend to.” Commander Ikari said.

“Yes sir!” Fuyutski replied.

Meanwhile, back in the Evangelions, Shinji and Rei received the order to retreat from Misato and Shinji thought it was an idiotic idea.

“What!? Why retreat now Misato, Rei and I almost have it dead! To retreat now would be completely idiotic! This thing would regenerate itself and attack us yet again. Did you see how hard it was for us to kill it in the first place!?” He rose his voice a little and put some extra *oomph* behind his words to make sure she understood his point.

“It is your choice, but if you do choose to disobey my orders and not retreat back to safety, in less than 10 minutes you will both be incinerated, do you understand?” Misato replied with a tone of annoyance.

Just as their luck would seem to have it, the fat blob of a critter decided to smother them in its gelatinous rolls of blubber.

The command center screen showed white noise as anyone on the bridge stared at the screen with blank looks, all of them utterly confused as to what just occurred. Misato stepped up to the mike and was the first to act.

“Shinji? Rei? Someone respond! What's going on? Reply damnit!” Misato shouted, obviously panicking about the lack of communications between the Eva's and the Control Center.

A deep groan echoed in the speakers, followed with a “We're good, Misato...” from Shinji and an accompanying response from Rei.

Shinji switched his comms so that only Rei could hear him. “Alright, so Rei, how about we get ourselves out from under all this blubber...?”

“I can agree with that, the only thing to watch would be our current power situation.” She replied.

“Power situation? What do you mean; we have full power right now. The umbilical cables are still connected...” Shinji said factually.

“At the moment we do, but because of the way we're crushed, if we move the slightest bit, the cables will be cut by the mass...” Rei replied.

“Oh... I didn't know that, thank you Rei. Now I have to rethink my plan so that we won't be killed, because that would be nice.” Shinji said sarcastically.

“You two have three minutes left until you are incinerated, do you both understand?” Misato warned.

Unfortunately for Rei and Shinji, they did not hear this last piece of very vital information simply for the fact that both had turned their outside communications off so that the two of them could plan out their strategy.

Back in the control room…

“Unmanned aircraft carrying full stocks of n2 mines, launching now.” Ritsuko said, directly behind Major Misato Katsuragi.

“Ritsuko? What are you doing here!? You're supposed to be in the U.S. until tomorrow!” Misato turned and said, completely thrown off guard…

“Nope, I was called back last night by Commander Ikari; he said that I would be needed here today.” Ritsuko replied.

**Beep** **Beep** **Beep* **Beep** **Beep** **Beep** **Beep* **Beep** **Beep** **Beep** **Beep**

“What's that beeping??” Misato said.

“The n2 mines are launching…” Maya replied.

Rei and Shinji were having some problems of their own. They had no idea that over a hundred n2 mines are raining down on them at this very moment. Suddenly they hear an ear-shattering boom echo and then…

*weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!*

A shrill whistle, ringing through their heads. Another bang echoes and then…Darkness and both of them are out of their Eva's and in pitch-blackness…

“Um-“Shinji gets cut off by Rei.

“No... Not here...” She says worriedly.

“Where's `Here`?” Shinji said, concerned and curious at the same time.

“A place from which there is no escape…Oblivion” Rei said, monotone.

“A place from which there is no escape. Oblivion - a place where nothing exists unless He makes it.” Rei continued.

“He?” Shinji said.

“The Creator”
