Chapter 2: The Attack

 

 

 

What he saw shocked him to the core…

Thankfully, it wasn't nearly as close as he originally thought.

`…...' Shinji thought. An angel…? Here… In the Geofront…

 

Almost expectantly, the alarm went off just as Rei came hurtling back through the door. “Shinji! Here! Get dressed in your plugsuit! Hurry!!” Rei said, half panicking.

Shinji stripped and was already pressing the button on his wrist by the time he realized what he just did right in front of Rei. She hadn't moved at all and he just pretty much fully exposed himself to her on accident to her… When Shinji looked up at her face he noticed that she was looking to her right (his left) and was extremely blushing. Sure, she had put him in the gown he WAS wearing, but, he had been asleep, not fully conscious.

 

“U.um... Well then, lets... Uh go…” Rei said, now blushing from head to toe and extremely nervous.

“Yeah… let's go...” Shinji replied. Rei opened the door and let Shinji through first, and then they both bolted towards the train station, where one was already smoking and ready. Suddenly, they heard a crash and saw Unit 02 collide with the angel, fighting it hand-to-hand with the B-Type equipment. They watched the battle rage nearby them from the train until they came speeding into a dark tunnel then stopped at the station and the lights flickered on. The two of them started running towards the cages where the EVA's were kept. As Rei was coming around a corner near the cages, she ran full force straight into a certain purple-haired alcoholic and they both fell over.

 

As soon as they got up onto their feet Misato said, “There you two are, we've been looking for you, where are your phones?”

“We're in our plugsuits, no pockets, remember?” Shinji pointed out to her.

“Anyways, c'mon! You have to get into your EVA's now and go help out Asuka; she's not doing very well against it at the moment…” Misato said, completely disregarding everything Shinji had just told her.

 

Shinji, Rei, and Misato set off for the Eva's: Rei's blue Unit 00, Shinji's purple Unit 01. When they arrived, the plugs were already opened to admit them so they simultaneously leaped into their awaiting units.

In no time at all, they were both topside, awaiting sight of their enemy and their comrade all the same.

They found their comrade first, and with the enemy nowhere to be seen, they opened a conversation with her. Asuka showed up on the coms link and began briefing them as to what has happened since the angel was sighted. “Alright guys, as you know, an angel showed up a bit ago, and I was the first arriving at Nerv so I was sent out immediately to stall the angel as soon as possible. Well, I was fighting it, and beginning to lose, when I decided to throw it into the lake. So, I called up my strength and hurled it away. The second it hit the water, it disappeared and has yet to reappear so, our job is to make sure it doesn't do any damage when it does come back.” She reported.

 

“Alright Asuka.” Shinji said.

“Roger.” Replied Rei in her normal tone.

 

“Unidentified object closing in on your position, Asuka!!” Misato shouted over the coms. link.

“Where is it at? I'm seeing nothing here!” Asuka replied, sounding harassed.

“Right above y...” Misato began to say, but was interrupted by a loud *SMASH!!* as the “”object”” landed squarely on top of Eva Unit 02, squishing it easily.

“Asuka?!? Asuka?!? ASUKA!! ASUKA REPORT!!! ASUKA!!...” Misato started viciously shouting over the coms, as though it would help anything.

 

Suddenly, the unidentified…thing…began to move.

`It's like Jell-O...' Shinji noted. `It jiggles and wriggles when it moves…”

 

“Shinji…Rei… I do believe we're no longer dealing with an Angel.” Maya said to them, in Misato's place since she had to be taken to the infirmary…

 

“So, if it's not an angel, then what is it then? Some kind of monster straight out of a book?” Shinji replied.

 

“Not quite, the Dead Sea Scrolls foretold the arrival of seven strong beings after the defeat of all the Angels that will attempt to take over where they left off from, and if Mankind is defeated, we'll have another Impact.” Commander Shigeru said.

 

“So… How are we supposed to kill it then?” Shinji asked, while thinking, `ANOTHER impact? Wow… Fourth Impact… That will be Armageddon. `

 

“We have no idea at the moment, for now, just be cautious and keep on the defensive, but if you two have any ideas, or notice something, be sure to report it immediately. Understood?” Shigeru replied.

 

Shinji couldn't think with all these distractions and he got an idea.

“Hey, Miss Akagi, do the Eva's have the capability to play mp3's?” He asked.

 

“I don't see why not, you want a song played? Just tell me where and what song it is and I'll have it started in a minute.” She replied.

 

“Alright, it's song 7 on the red CD that's in my locker.” Shinji said.

 

A few minutes later, music began to play over the speakers. Helicopters and Gunshots were quietly heard as a guitar began to play. “”Dun nuna nun… Dun nuna nun… Dun nuna nun… Dun nuna nun. Duh. Dun nuna nun. Dunda dun dun.

“Is that One by Metallica? I didn't know you were a fan of Metallica, Shinji” Rei said, surprised.

 

“Yes, it's One. But don't be so surprised, there are a lot of things you don't know about me… But let's continue.” Shinji replied.

 

“I think I see it's core, do you Rei?” He asked.

“No, not yet... wait, the red orb below it's neck?” She replied.

 

“Exactly, on my count of 5, we both go for it at the same time, just like the one Angel me and Asuka killed.” Shinji ordered.

“Okay… I'll take left flank.” Rei responded.

“Alright, I'll take right flank then.” Shinji said.

 

At that moment, Commander Shigeru decided to intervene.

“What are you planning Shinji?”

 

“You'll see in a moment, we're going to kill this thing, don't you worry.” Shinji said, betraying his normal nature.

 

“Shinji… Tell me what your planning, now. That is an order.” Shigeru threatened.

 

“1…”

“2…”

“3…”

“Shinji… Stop NOW… If you do not, I'll be forced to eject you from your Eva.” Shigeru threatened again.

“4…”

“SHINJI, STOP NOW!!” Shigeru began to yell over the coms.

 

“5…NOW REI!!!!” Shinji screamed as Rei and himself began to charge the sin down.

 

They took off at the same exact time and began to charge the sin. Shinji crashed violently into the body of the fat being and began to tear at it's layers of skin and meat in order to give Rei a clear shot to it's core.

Rei grabbed the core and began to rip it out, barely moving it at all, when Shinji decided to help her do it, his Eva put some extra force into clawing the core out with its A.T. Field until it was completely eroded from the body.

 

The Commander, Maya, and the rest of the Bridge Bunnies sat and watched in awe at the beserking monster that was Evangelion.
