Shinji staggered to the wall of the corridor, fumbling with the collar of his shirt as he struggled for breath.

“Can't be like Gendo,” he muttered as he slumped to the floor. “Can't be like Gendo.”

Shinji was found a few minutes later by a uniformed security guard, thanks to the constantly monitored CCTV network.

A few minutes after that, a NERV medical team, led by Dr. Akagi arrived and assessed the severity of the situation.

“Shinji-kun, can you hear me,” the blonde asked as she shined a pen light into his eyes.

“Gah” and a nod was what the scientist received as a reply, but it was good enough for her.

Ritsuko turned to the paramedics. “I think that Shinji had a panic attack. He should be fine if we let him rest up in the infirmary. Keep him on oxygen for at least the next 30 minutes and draw blood for a sample.”

“Yes, ma'am.”

Ritsuko frowned as she thought about what might cause Shinji to have a panic attack. `I hope that it's not related to us…'

Gendo glanced at the memo reporting that his son had collapsed with a calculated indifference.

“Pathetic,” he scoffed. He activated the intercom. “Sensei, tell Dr. Akagi to find out if there is an underlying cause for this incident. Pilot Ikari is still needed to pilot Unit-01.”

“¬Yes, sir.¬”

Shinji blinked open his eyes.

“What?” he asked, his voice muffled by the oxygen mask.

“You're awake, Shinji-kun,” Ritsuko smiled at him. “You gave us quite the fright there. Is anything the matter?”

Shinji nodded, but said nothing. He gestured to the nurse with his eyes, a signal that Ritsuko didn't pick up on at first.

When the blonde did notice, she nodded back. “Nurse Kitazawa, would you mind giving me and Shinji-kun some privacy for a moment?”

“Yes, Dr. Akagi,” the black haired girl nodded.

When they were alone, Ritsuko removed the O2 mask from Shinji's face and sat at his bedside.

“I was worried about you, what's bothering you?”

Shinji sighed. “I was thinking that I now know why Gendo likes to manipulate people when I realised that I'm becoming like him,” his eyes began to tear up.

Ritsuko clasped onto her lover's hand. “Shinji, do you care about me?”

“Y-yes,” he nodded.

“Would you care about me even if we weren't fooling around?”

Shinji pondered this for a moment. “Yes,” he said in a quiet voice. “Yes, I would.”

Ritsuko smiled and kissed Shinji on the cheek. “That's why you're not like Gendo. You care about other people. That's why I like you.”

Shinji blinked back his tears. “You really mean it?”

Ritsuko answered with another kiss, this time on the lips. “Yes. It could even grow to love if you play your cards right.”

The currently incapacitated pilot allowed himself a hopeful smile. “Ritsuko-chan…”

The labcoat clad woman pulled away when she heard someone approach.

“Stay strong, Shinji-sama,” she whispered as Misato entered the room.

“Shinji!” Misato called out as she rushed to the bed. “I was so worried about dinner, I mean you.”

The boy in question managed to pretend not to hear the slip. “I guess I'm just a bit more tired than I thought. I'll be alright though, Misato-san.”

“That's good, Shinji,” the purple haired woman smiled, completely missing the look Ritsuko gave her.

“Well, I think that we should let Shinji-kun get his rest,” the blonde said, managing to keep the venom from her voice. “Come with me, Misato, we need to talk...”

“What? Ok,” the Captain shrugged as she was escorted out of the room.

Outside in the hallway, Ritsuko took a deep breath in preparation for the dressing down she was about to give her friend.

“I know what you're going to say, Ritsuko. I know that me and Asuka should be doing more about the apartment. I do mean to help him out, honest,” Misato insisted.

“Then why did you invite me over to dinner tonight when it's not your turn to cook?” Ritsuko asked with her hands on her hips in an aggressive posture.

“I wanted to spend time with my best friend,” the Captain offered weakly.

“You're taking advantage of Shinji-kun, and quite frankly, that's what's led to this,”
Ritsuko snorted in disgust. “Misato, Shinji is under the impression that along with having to save the world, he has to clean up your pigsty. Why would he think that?”

“That's not true!” the purple haired woman insisted.

“Really? Well, let's start with the fact that Asuka complains, violently, when dinner is late. You treat him like his there for your amusement. And you badgered him into taking over your turn to cook tonight,” Ritsuko counted the points off with her fingers.

“How did you know about that?” Misato blurted out.

“So it was true. You're so shameless, Misato,” the blonde scolded. She sighed before continuing. “Look Misato, I appreciate that you're looking to spend some time with a friend, but is this really the best way to go about it? Shinji's been manipulated, forced and tricked into doing things for others ever since he arrived here in Tokyo-3.”

“I didn't mean to treat him like a slave,” Misato insisted. “It just… sort of happened.”

Ritsuko rolled her eyes. “Things have a way of `sort of happening' around you, Misato. If Shinji's well enough, then I'll come round tonight and help him cook, but you have to tidy up your mess; it's not fair if Shinji had to keep cleaning up after you.”

“Ok,” Misato nodded sheepishly.

“Good, now go and finish your paperwork.”

Several hours later Shinji was up and about. His blood test had come up negative for anomalies and so he was now free to make dinner with the assistance of his new best friend. In fact, the three of them were shopping for ingredients in the local convenience store.

“Ritsuko-san, Misato-san, would it be ok if you didn't tell Asuka about earlier?” Shinji asked hesitantly as the stopped at the alcohol section.

“Of course, Shinji-kun,” Ritsuko smiled.

Misato merely shrugged as she topped up her beer supply. She felt that she'd need to find something else to amuse herself with when she saw the redhead again.

Shinji turned to find something tasty for their evening meal. His peripheral vision caught sight of the squid that was offer.

“Squid sound good?” he asked, already planning a number of dishes.

“I don't know,” Misato said in a disinterested tone. “I mean squid can be a bit too chewy for my tastes.”

“Misato,” Ritsuko spoke up, “has Shinji ever steered you wrong with his cooking?”

“No,” the Captain admitted.

“I know just the dish,” Shinji smiled. “It'll be tender, but we'll need beer for the stock.”

“You can cook food with beer?” Misato asked, shocked by this apparent revelation. She grabbed Shinji by the collar of his shirt. “Why didn't you tell me this before?”

The pilot flinched at his guardian's outburst. “You didn't know?”

“What the fuck do I know about cooking? If you can cook with beer, then from now on you cook with beer. Got it?”

“Misato, you're causing a scene,” Ritsuko interrupted. “And you're taking advantage of Shinji again.”

“Hahaha, sorry about that Shinji, I got a little carried away there.”

“That's ok, Misato-san,” Shinji waved off the apology. Inside though, he was thinking about the best way to pay Misato back.

Having completed their shopping trip without further incident, Misato drove her friends back to her apartment with the usual finesse.

Shinji was lumbered with the heavy bags as they made their way to the Katsuragi hovel. Ritsuko didn't offer to help, much to Shinji's annoyance.

`Ritsuko-chan seems to have forgotten about helping me, I'll be sure to teach her a lesson as well,' the pilot made an angry mental note.

Soon the trio of NERV personnel were attending to their tasks in Misato's home. Shinji glanced out of the doorway and into the main room, seeing his guardian was suitably distracted, he wrapped his arms around Ritsuko and spoke into her left ear.

“Thanks for your help with the groceries, Ritsuko-chan,” he sarcastically whispered.

“Sorry, Shinji-sama, I forgot,” Ritsuko blushed.

“But you were naughty and you must be punished... I know just the thing.”

Shinji reached under the bottle blonde's skirt and pulled down her panties.

Ritsuko had an inkling of what was going through Shinji's mind and stepped out of them.

“Face me with your feet shoulder width apart, Ritsuko-chan,” Shinji ordered.

Ritsuko blushed as her stance shifted.

Shinji smiled as he looked up from his crouched position. “These stay in place until I order them removed.”

“Yes, Shinji-sama,” the doctor nodded.

She gasped when Shinji used his left hand to part her labia and his right to tuck the blonde's black lacy underwear into her vagina.

The sound of footsteps alerted Shinji, making him stand to keep up his ruse. Ritsuko straightened her skirt as Shinji quickly washed his hands in the sink. He turned as he started to dry them on the red hand towel that was on the countertop just as Misato entered the kitchen looking for something to drink.

“How's it coming along,” the purple haired beer drinker asked, popping the top on her can.

“Shouldn't be too long, Misato-san,” Shinji answered. “The broth is thickening nicely. Here, have a sample.”

Shinji offered the two women samples of the main course, both of them appreciating the Third Child's culinary knowledge.

“Impressive,” Ritsuko nodded, taking her sample first as Misato quenched her thirst.

As the Captain drained her can, Ritsuko emptied a small syringe onto the saucer that Shinji had poured some of his latest masterpiece on. When Shinji looked at her, she winked and handed the sample to her friend.

“Oh yeah,” Misato smiled as the seafood sauce passed over her tongue. “Taking you in was a fantastic idea.”

Shinji's face fell slightly.

“You're doing it again, Misato.”

“Doing what, Ritsuko?”

“Taking advantage of Shinji-kun,” the scientist sighed. “Oh well, I suppose that you can't help it.”

Misato grinned nervously before deciding that drinking more beer was the best course of action.

Shinji gave the purple haired lovely an unpleasant look, but turned his attention to the seafood dish on the stovetop. Using his cooking chopsticks, the amateur chef showed his assistant just how tender he'd managed to get the squid.

“You can cut it with chopsticks?” Ritsuko was in awe.

“It's all in the preparation,” Shinji smiled warmly. “Misato-san, it's ready.”

“Fantastic,” Misato slurred ever so slightly after draining the canned alcohol. “Whoa, must be more tired than I thought.”

“It has been a long day,” Shinji admitted. “Anyway, let's eat and relax.”

The meal was quickly eaten in silence, much to Shinji's appreciation. He considered the blonde's words about her taking care of Misato.

After they finished the meal, Shinji brought in the after-dinner tea.

Misato stood as Shinji set the tray down. “I'm going to the toilet.”

Shinji blushed lightly, but said nothing as his guardian left to relieve herself.

Ritsuko leant in to whisper to her juvenile lover. “I slipped Misato something that should be kicking in now.”

“What is it?” Shinji asked in an equally low tone.

“It's a cocktail,” Ritsuko smiled evilly, “a mix of an aphrodisiac, a truth serum and something to make her more agreeable to our suggestions. Very potent stuff.”

Misato returned with a slightly silly smile on her face. “Thanks for the meal, Shinji.”

“No problem, Misato-san. Would you like another beer?”

“You're an absolute star,” the purple haired woman praised.

Leaning in, Ritsuko timed her question to be overheard by Shinji.

“Misato, do you find Shinji's attractive?”

“I think if him as little brother.”

“Is that the whole truth, Misato?” Ritsuko asked suspicion filling her voice.

“Yes,” Misato insisted with a whine. She cast her gaze at the table. “Well, I did when he first got here. Why? What're you thinking, Ritsuko?”

“Well, I always wondered if what you'd do with him if you got the chance. You did have quite the reputation back in college, you know.”

Shinji's return gave the Captain a bit of breathing space.

As Misato downed yet another beer, Shinji gestured for Ritsuko to ask another embarrassing question.

“So then Misato, I know that it's been a while since you had a boyfriend and you might be a little bit frisky. If you had the chance for one night, no repercussions, and no awkward moments after - who would you sleep with: me or Shinji?”

“How can you ask that, Ritsuko?” Misato demanded indignantly.

“Well, we did sleep with Kaji at the same time in college,” the blonde reminded her friend. “And you do love cock.”

Misato's face turned red. “Don't say things like that in front of Shinji, he's sweet and innocent!”

“How he managed to remain that with you around, Misato, I don't know. But my question still remains unanswered, Miss Katsuragi: who would you rather have sex with, me or Shinji-kun?”

To further tease her old friend, Ritsuko stood up and put her arm around Shinji's shoulders. “Or would you choose both of us at the same time?”

To be continued…

Well, this seemed like a decent place to end the chapter.

What? I write to tease and taunt you, not for anything else.

This chapter was pre-read by Chi Vayne, who is still willing to put up with my delusions of talent.

Here's some omake, but only because it came up when I was writing the last scene.

Ritsuko stood up and put her arm around Shinji's shoulders. “Or would you choose both of us at the same time?”

“The busty bleach blonde or the innocent youth? How can I decide between such contrasting visions of loveliness? I must have you both!”

“What? Are you pulling a Kuno on us?” the blonde asked as she stepped in front of Shinji.

“You've heard of my mother's family?”

“Who was your mother, Misato-san?” Shinji asked, poking his head out from behind his protector.

“Kodachi Kuno. Why?”

I'll try not to let the omake get out of hand, like I did with Sausages, It was a Tuesday.
