Neon Genesis Evangelion

Authors Notes: If you are expecting me to use Japanese words such as Baka or Kawaii in an sentence then you're out of your damn mind and those that do should be banished from Fan Fiction. Everyone is speaking Japanese, so in order to keep the story readable (I don't know Japanese) It'll be in English, American English will have a *next to them since it is foreign to the characters. The Second note, Since NGE used religious references out of context and wrong I'm going to use them right along with a few that weren't used. Oh yeah, References to Dante's Inferno will be used as well.

Ch. 1

A desolate area of an area once known, as Turkey now lies barren devoid of life such a return to such a vast desert is sign of times long past. The mountains stand ominous unchanged by the second impact as the small expedition team climbs their jagged rocks a massive mountain stands tall in the distance. Its snow-capped summits are the lure of many who've long met their demise on its rocks. Mile by mile the team travels the sun slowly descends foreshadowing a cold night. They make their camp a few miles away from the mountain known to many as Ararat the very site of the Ark that once saved all humanity.
"Gendo is out of his mind if he thinks he'll be able to find an ark that hasn't been found in thousands of years." A young man groaned as he set his gear down, he took off the scarlet hemp head covering and wiped the sweat from his face. Light in tone his dark brown hair cut short while his almond eyes perfectly matched his tone and captured the attention of those that spoke with him. Average in height and weight he didn't stand out in a crowd. His companion followed suit "well what do you expect Nerv isn't your average government agency. They say life hasn't been seen in this area for a good ten years." The young man stretched out his arms "times were different back then, all we hand to worry about was the crazy Americans and their bid for power. Now we have Angels that attack when they feel the need to." His comrade took out the necessary tools to make the fire. "I lost my wife and kid ten years ago; they were killed in ground zero while I was stationed in Israel on peacekeeping." He continued to prepare a fire by setting the gelatin substance on the ground "They told me when I got back Tokyo was gone in a flash of light, they say it was as if a massive fire cleared the world."

"Kenji doesn't blame yourself they went peacefully." Kenji looked at him "it's easy for you to say Ryo. I didn't even get to tell them I loved them." Kenji sighed as he lit the substance, which soon ignited a fire providing warmth to a slowly encroaching night. Nearly an hour passed and the blistering hot temperatures dramatically dropped as many in the camps huddled around the fires that kept them from freezing. "More than six billion people met their ends on that dreadful day." Ryo remarked as he looked up in the sky. What I find odd is the reports from various cities around the world described a mass vanishing of 144,000 people a day before the impact." Kenji closed his eyes trying to get some sleep from the strenuous trek up the massive mountain known as Ararat.

Nightfall passed and as expected from the Nerv expedition the camp was taken down as quickly as it was erected. From the summit the expedition went on as planned mile by mile the teams made their way up the mountain, from this view all one could see was a barren desert devoid of a long soul save for the few hundred members of Nerv. "Gendo we've confirmed from the GPS's that we are five miles from the site of the Ark." A young man reported as Gendo's radio crackled with his voice "excellent we're, right one track prepares the charges." Gendo ordered as he led his team up the perilous mountain. Hours passed as the last few members of the team made it to the point of destination.

"Charges are awaiting detonation, on your command sir." The voice crackled "precedes" Gendo coldly, responded as several explosions echoed in the air in the dead of night the bright light lit the sky, "Sir we've uncovered the ark…" The voice of the young man cut off, Ryo and Kenji were near Gendo team as they made their way to him. "I don't believe it, he found the ark, we shouldn't be here were treading on holy ground." Ryo said almost foretelling of an imamate disaster.

The teams lowered themselves into the massive crater, some teams were taking photos sending them back to Tokyo3 for further study. Other teams such as Ryo and Kenji's team were in taking various samples of the earth and fragments of the surrounding earth. "It can't be possible Ryo, I've always thought the flood was a metaphor for mankind's unjust treatment towards another with the hope that everything will begin a new." Kenji said as he set his eyes on the massive wooden ark. "Once Noah and his family sent a dove it was sign of peace, a sign that man was at peace. Once Noah and his family offered a sacrifice to God, a rainbow was shown over the sky as a sign that God had put down his bow and wouldn't punish man by water…the next punishment for man would be….fire." Ryo said as he touched the petrified wood with his bare hand feeling as if this was a direct link to god. Another voice broke the silence on Ryo's radio it was more direct and disregarded the holy symbol of the ark "Are to proceed with the entry into the ark?" Ryo listened in "Yes that was the purpose of this trek. The entry team climbed up the massive ark walking on its deck the team moved cautiously as the wood was over thousands of years old likely to collapse on its weight. Upon entry into the ark, the various lights from the flashlights illuminated the darkened ark.

Upon their discovery a room with several stone tablets and scrolls were uncovered "Sir we've found evidence that would be of interest to you." The voice of the young man reported, Gendo looked at the monitor "Very well take all of it, we'll use it for further analysis." Within a moment of ordering the team worked away shipping the tablets and scrolls carefully into storage crates that were later loaded into large cargo ships, once their mission was complete the expedition crew set back to Tokyo3.

"Just how much longer until were back at Nerv awaiting the next angel attack?" Kenji asked as he lit a cigarette. "With the rise in attacks its only a matter of time until our final judgment, we entered blindly ignoring the sign that means abandon all hope who to he who enters." Ryo coldly said as Gendo looked at him from his seat giving him a cold look of disapproval. Ryo folded his arms not even giving him eye contact "no man has the right to tread on divine ground, the angels are a sign from God that our time is ending. Armageddon is near Gendo." Gendo disregarded Ryo's comments as nothing more than religious babble and went back to his business Kenji looked at his comrade in shock "you know that man has the ability to make you disappear, I don't think you should have gotten on his bad side." Ryo shrugged it off, as the long flight back home wasn't any where near its end as they flew where well over the timeless barren sands.

Misato still half asleep picked up the phone "its 2am in the mourning, what is it?" She drowsily asked as she tried to stay awake. "Major, we've uncovered something very important from Ararat. it's the Ark, its been found." Ritsuko proclaimed as she continued to keep the magi systems under its usual maintenance check "you have to be out your mind, your telling me Nerv spent an absurd amount of money on information that's vaguely accurate. The Ark…it can't be it'd be well over 10,000 years old." Misato said as she kept her voice down from the two sleeping teenage pilots that slept in the other rooms. "Yes, as we speak they are heading back. At the moment we're to be begin the tests analyzing the findings." Misato took a deep breath within a few hours Nerv would contact various news agencies to report the discovery of the ark while keeping all information regarding their findings on a need to known basis.

"Report back here at 8am, the pilots are to undergo new battle tactics and synchronization training." Ritsuko hung up, Misato slowly walked back to her room, as she walked she stumbled over a few beer cans "damn it Shinji It was your turn to clean up!" As she walked back to her room the very thought of the ark being found lingered in her mind. "It can't be true, there couldn't of been a flood that covered the world killing off all mankind save a family and two of every animal." Yet her conflicting mind told her that it couldn't have been the work of the angels it was the work of a massive rainstorm. Yet the whirlwind of thoughts kept her up for the rest of the night. Falling back asleep on the couch, the time swiftly passed. Mourning came a with bright blue sky signaling the a fine spring day. Misato looked at her cloak 7. Shinji was always the first one up while Asuka would be up 45 minutes later and as usual Asuka wasn't a mourning person, poor Shinji as he knew he had to wake her up for the mourning routine something he dreaded.

"Get the hell out of my room! I'll get up when I feel like it!" Asuka yelled at Shinji as he tried to open her door. "Don't worry all women are like that in the mourning." Misato said catching Shinji's attention "Good mourning Misato, you seem to be up early this mourning." The simple pleasure of a good mourning took her mind off the News Ritsuko informed her of earlier in the mourning. "Well it seems your pilot duties will excuse you from being a student." Shinji knew he'd be busy all day, as he made coffee and the usual breakfast. Asuka finally came out of her room a half hour later, her bright red hair was frizzled as she had a few bags under her eyes. Shinji watched her walk to the restroom "we to test again so no school for us." She continued to walk on completely ignoring Shinji. Misato drank her coffee pondering weather to tell Shinji of the latest discovery. Yet she figured it be better for him to find out at Nerv, it was nearly twenty minutes before Asuka finally came out of the restroom.

"I guess we'll be a little bit late to the test, hopefully it won't be by much." Misato reassured as Shinji and Asuka as they were already ready and headed, Misato's thoughts trailed on the possibility that the finding of the ark would bring unwanted media attention. Shinji listening to his ipod player which filled his ears with classical music shut him out of the chatter than the two women had. "Such a strange dream last night, I walked out and I seen the sky night sky clear of the stars it was if they were gone. The sky itself was burning with the screams of tortured souls, everyone was begging for mercy at the sight of the four horsemen." Making their way down to the parking garage Asuka shoved Shinji to the side as she took the front row seat. "Not today." Was all he could make out as he sat in the back seat where various files were placed. He unplugged his earphones as they drive to Nerv began "Misato something seems to be on your mind." Misato paused as Shinji asked a simple question trying to break the silence that over took them. "Just more redundant Jobs a Major like myself has to go through its nothing to serious…" Asuka could easily catch the subtlety in her words as she led the half-wit in another direction. Asuka folded her arms "You and Kaji had a fight last night didn't you?" Asuka bluntly said as Misato's eyes widened "honestly now Asuka, what makes you think I'd be thinking of him at this hour?" She countered with her womanly instinct as the fiery redhead was oblivious to the inane conversation.
"Well every time you two are together your mad it him when he's hitting on other women, or when I look at him." Asuka said in her usual arrogant tone of voice, Shinji may have not been a ladies man like Kaji but rather get involved her put his ipod player back on escaping to the sounds of Mozart. "He's such a real man, not like Mr. Shyness back there. I'd love to have a man like him." Asuka said she trailed off into her own daydream of her and Kaji enjoying a passionate kiss. Misato laughed at the young woman "then wait for the times when he's broke and hitting on the waitress on your dates then having to deal with him when he thinks he's gods gift to women, he's a loser and only weak women fall for him!" Misato said in hopes of dashing her ex's image. "Well obviously you dated him and still have that look in your eye or maybe you don't like it when a fine young woman like me catches his eye." Asuka pompously claimed as she knew she was annoying Misato. Rather than get into an argument with the young girl and ruin her synch ratio.

Misato countered Asuka's claim "yep your such a real woman I don't know how Kaji can resist you…" Detecting a hint of sarcasm Asuka looked at out the wind at the peaceful river as they drove over the bridge and stopped talking as she continued to daydream of Kaji.

"Ryo have the results been processed?" Kenji asked as he sorted the various findings into files, which would be sent to Gendo in written reports that would be read by all of Nerv and Seele. "If can call this mess results, the Magi can scan it but when it comes to translating. That's where we have a problem, every scroll and tablet is written in an unknown language. it's a very early dialect of Hebrew called Aramaic which dates thousands of years before the birth of Christ. Out of all the scrolls and tablets this is what we've uncovered." Ryo said as he pulled up the recent findings.

"Years have passed since the flood, the family is broken and scattered in all directions of the world. The flood which killed nearly all was caused by a beast of massive sent forth by the lord himself. The beast was as tall as mountain and wide as a the vast desert. Darkness enslaved the land as it used its divine power to control the call the very water from the sky and desert. Water arose from the very earth." Ryo pulled up the level of error the magi encountered while the translation was under way. "The Magi's vast databases could only match the various markings to Hebrew but it was lost when we tried to translate the last three tablets. "From this first passage, the massive flood was caused by an angel." Ryo said as the system continued to translate, Kenji was stunned "then the second impact is only apart of a larger scope." Ryo nodded as he pulled up other half translated document the two young men read it as it unfolded.

"In the 7th year on the holy Sabbath a sign was given by the lord, a vision of life to come in many generations to come. Wars, plagues, and the birth of the messiah. During this vision of holy importance the Holy father commanded me to write everything as a record of all to come…" Kenji took a deep breath, Ryo gave him coffee "look, this is the very writing of Noah a full account of the voice of God." Just as he finished his sentence Dr. Akagi walked in with her clipboard in hand "So what has the Magi uncovered?" The two rose up and saluted her "Ma'am, the system is completely lost to translating the findings. This language is unknown yet very familiar, from my own experience in speaking Hebrew, I've set the system to read for signs of the language. Yet were only at 0.5 in to completion." Ryo said as he gave Ritsuko a copy of the latest Translation, her eyes lit up "you mean to tell me that these tablets are the direct words from Noah, the very builder of the ark?" Ryo nodded as he watched her response to the description of the angel. "Very well inform me of any more findings." She coldly said as she left the two to their job. "In any case, just how much longer will it take you know Gendo will be demanding this by noon." Kenji said as he put down his coffee mug. "A few more days and will be done but I can't promise anything." Ryo said as he sat adjusting the error ratio. "I don't believe it was a right to invade holy ground. Its like we've just skipped the first six circles of hell and waltzed right into the city of Dis. Where the heretics await us with open arms for our blasphemy.
