Shido felt himself suspended in his sleep. Like he wasn't supposed to be there in darkness. Like his slumber was not natural, but induced. Forced. And try as he might, the youth couldn't fight the darkness as it dragged him further into sleep. Fighting the strange compulsion to sleep felt even more wrong than the sleep itself. So, he just floated in the dreamless nothingness, hoping that he'd be allowed to wake up soon.

The boy shifted in his sleep, as if he was aware of the sudden darkness in his room. Darkness, like his dreamless state, engulfed everything. Anything that held any sort of light was dimmed into inky pitch black. Then the darkness was shattered by gold. Golden hair, golden eyes. Shido shifted again, as if another body had sat upon his bed as well, rolling towards it. His breathing calm in his forced sleep.

The fog was coming. And Shido was surprised by it. A dream? He'd thought that he'd stay in that unnatural state. But it seemed that he was dreaming once again. And the dream seemed so familiar. Like he'd had it before. Then again, all his dreams began in the fog. Maybe because the fog of London was an integral part of his life.

Fog, thick and almost unearthly. Fog that seemed to have a life of it's own. It wrapped around him like a blanket clinging to him as he plunged though it and down a non-descript street. Just wondering lost, not knowing where to go, and not knowing if he was actually going anywhere at all.

Shido felt his shin crawl, and his blue-green eyes sought out something within the fog. It felt as if he were being watched. As if something hidden in the fog found his every movement fascinating. But he saw nothing. Just fog and darkness. And the slightest sheen, a glint of gold. Golden like cats eyes, and just as predatory. A hunter's eyes, fixed upon him.

“Who? Who are you?” He demanded. “Why am I here? Why are you watching me?”

The glint of gold took on a possessive sheen. He heard a deep, sensual voice, carried on the wind. A foreign voice, with a thick Romanian accent. A voice he knew, but couldn't place at the moment. His dream was getting him confused. But words felt as if they'd been whispered directly into his ears. Almost as if someone had done so outside of sleep and it had transferred into his dreams. He could even feel a dark presence just behind him.

“Shido…”

The silver haired youth growled at the voice. “Who are you?! I'm tried of being chased. I'm sick of being hunted. And I'm sick and tired of this! If you don't tell me who you are, I'm going to wake up!” He threatened, pouting beautifully at the end unconsciously.

There was a silky laugh. Deep and sensual. “That is an empty threat Shido. You can't wake up. Not until I let you.”

The boy's eyes went a little wide. What the heck did that mean! He couldn't wake up. He was trapped. Trapped in a dream that wasn't his. Trapped with this mysterious voice, who had forced him into this state. “For the last time! Who are you?” This time Shido's voice wasn't demanding. It was desperate, frightened.

“Don't you know, darling Detective. I think you know who I am. You just won't let yourself admit it. Shall I give you a hint?” There was more gold. Gold hair, gold eyes, unearthly pale skin. They belonged to a familiar, tall gorgeous man.

“Cain? I don't understand. What is this? What's happening to me?” He wanted an explanation and he wanted a good one.

“You're dreaming, obviously. Shido, you really shouldn't waist your time asking me such trivial questions.” Cain stepped fully out of the fog and walked to him. His hands tilting his head up and giving him a soft kiss. A kiss Shido didn't seem to want to yield too. “What's wrong Shido. This is your dream. You're allowed to kiss me back, you know. Here, I'm just a figment of your imagination.”

Shido doubted that. Dream kisses didn't feel that damned real. Like his sleeping body was getting the same treatment his dream persona did. He crossed his arms and pouted. “Fine. I can do whatever I want. Absolutely anything. Then I'm asking you questions. And I won't let you distract… me…this… time.” His words were halted as he was pulled to Cain. His body felt solid. Warm. And his hands went up to carress his cloth covered chest. He looked up as if demanding a kiss before he blushed, shook his head and looked back down.

“No! Not this time. I won't let it! I want to know. Cain, what's going on? I know you know something, and you won't tell me. Why won't you? I have a right to know. I'm out there at night, and I know you know something terribly important.” He felt tears of frustration start to flow. He'd thought he could trust the man. And here, he was convinced that Cain had kept a lot of important things from him. Things that could have saved lives.

Cain sighed. He supposed he'd kept a few things from Shido a little too long. He leaned to lick one of the tears off Shido's cheek. “I do it out of love, Shido. I didn't want you hurt. But you seem like not listening to me. I'll have to cure you of that, one day. I thought to protect you.”

“Tell me!” Shido hissed angrily, his hands still clutching at Cain's soft silken shirt, feeling the strong broad chest under it. Feeling the strange absence of something there. The boy blinked. Cain didn't have a heartbeat.

“You asked me about demons that night. That's what is out there killing those women. A demon.” He didn't expect Shido to believe him. Humans might be superstitious, but they often refused to see the truths about the world until they literly bit them. He noted the scrutinizing look in blue-green eyes. It seemed to him that Shido didn't know whether to believe him or not.

“Demons? Then we have to get a priest. We have to find them and…” Shido was cut off by a shushing finger against his lips.

“I misspoke somewhat, Shido. Not exactly. They are like demons, only much lower on the food chain. More like lowly beast, unfit to call themselves true denizens of the night.” There was contempt in Cain's voice. “This demon you seek to catch is what we call a Night Breed. They are demons that find and feed off of human weaknesses. They find a host with strong desires and weak wills. And they live through them, making them do things.”

“Strong desires.” Shido echoed, confused. Night breeds. He'd never heard of those. He hadn't been to church formally in a long time either. So he didn't know if it was something the clergy had just made up to scare more people into believing.

“Some ask for eternal beauty, some for great strength, others do it out of their great lust for someone…” Cain trailed off when Shido pushed against him, stumbling out of his arms. His innocent eyes shimmered with unspoken incrimination.

Shido felt himself trying not to shake as he regarded the dream Cain. He clenched a fist and glared at him angrily. “You're one of them, aren't you? A Night Breed? I knew there was something wrong about you. You never showed up in the daytime, and... and… You never answered my question that night. What did you give your soul up for, Cain?”

Cain felt himself wanting to hiss but stopped, closing the space between Shido and himself. He grabbed the boy by the shoulders, not allowing him to pull away from him again. “I AM not a Night Breed. How dare you say such a thing? I am far and above such common gutter trash.”

Shido wrinkled his brow. His face trapped between slight fear and curiosity. He hadn't expected Cain to react like that. He had just said what he was starting to expect. That Cain wasn't human. But Cain sounded angry about it. His voice arrogant, more like a lord than the guy he knew. He almost wished he could stop the words that spilled unconsciously from his lips. “What ARE you, Cain?”

Cain frowned. He didn't like this kind of questioning. At least the boy wasn't fighting him anymore. “What am I? I think you know what I am. Deep in your heart, you know. Think about that you saw that night. What you saw wasn't a dream.” He explained, carefully gathering the boy in his arms, already stroking his hair softly.

Shido seemed to be trying to remember what he'd seen. But all he could feel was the total realness of Cain's long, elegant fingers petting his hair. The strength of his arms holding him closer to his warm body. And in his minds eye, he saw a tree. And a golden vision of Cain. Dark and frightening. His mouth pressed against a woman's neck. The sharp smell of blood in the air.

He sagged into Cain's' heady embrace unconsciously. He just couldn't help it. The more Cain held him, the more he wanted to be held. As if by being held, this conversation wasn't happening. Again, he whispered, “What are you?” Then he looked up, blue-green eyes fixed onto bright burnished golden ones. Strangely delicate hands again clutched at the taller man's shirt. His voice almost too breathy for human ears to hear. “I want to know.”

Cain felt his resolve crumbling. Time to answer Shido. His mouth descending as his hands kept the boy still. He sampled Shido's lips, not giving any quarter. Not letting the boy fight him. Not letting the boy move until he drew Shido's soft lips apart and his tongue made the wet cavern his own once again.

Shido could swear he actually felt the man's tongue brushing against his. He could feel himself responding, in and out of his dream world. Softly groaning into the kiss. Wanting to say that Cain hadn't answered him again, but unable to under the kiss.

He felt hands against his body, running up his sides, no longer keeping him still, but playing with that little ribbon. Slowly, starting to untie and unwrap his gift. Surprised that Shido didn't fight once freed. That Shido just clutched at him harder and was eagerly attempting to kiss him back. Sloppy, inexperienced kisses, but so sexy, since he knew the boy would be a fast eager learner once he learned of the new worlds of pleasure Cain could introduce him too.

Shido felt his shirt upon to Cain's searching hands. His eyes flitted closed and his mouth was released. He wanted it back. And he could hear his dreamself panting. Panting for Cain to touch him. And feeling like a shameless slut for asking such things. But Cain did as asked, touching him softly. Not the rough, eager groping he'd been subjected too before. But soft, stroking caresses that had him arching, and wondering if the cobblestones in his dreams were as hard as ones in the real world.

He felt Cain's mouth traveling elsewhere and concluded that Cain really liked to use his teeth. That was all he could feel. Cain's strong hands slowly brushing down his stomach. His teeth scraping teasingly against his ear, nipping sharply at his jaw, nuzzling the point where is pulse fluttered wildly. He leaned further into the blond, and his head spun with the man suddenly turned his around, so that his back was to Cain's front. He made a soft keening sound at the loss of Cain's mouth against his quickly warming skin.

The hand kept traveling lower, and he could feel feather light kisses to the back of his neck. And a soft, languid lick every now and then. He could also feel the hardness Cain had pressed against his backside. His own member waking with the need the older man seemed to drag from him.

He bucked when Cain's hands snaked into his pants to suddenly grope him. His eyes snapped open and he bit down on his lip to stop the loud moan. He started telling himself that this was just another of the wet dreams young men tended to have. And he found himself begging Cain. Begging to be told that it wasn't a dream. And then in the same breath begging to be touched more. Unsatisfied with the soft languid stokes Cain's hand was now using to fondle his manhood. Teasing it into full hardness.

Cain rubbed himself against Shido's backside, feeling the boy's flesh stiffen in his hands. Hearing the soft, fevering begging murmurs. Smelling Shido's arousal as he licked at the back of the boy's neck. He nipped at the nape of Shido's neck, stroking the boy's hardness with careful, teasing fingers. Not giving Shido anything more than that. His mouth trailed to bite into his ear delicately. Whispering huskily, voice thick with need. “You're so beautiful like this, my lovely Shido. So lovely…” He smelled blood. It seemed Shido had bit his lips in an effort not to moan.

It was the feeling of the boy trying to thrust forwards into his hands, and trying to wiggle backwards to feel his hard on coupled with the smell of blood that finally got to Cain. His mouth descended back to Shido's neck. Carefully, he licked at it for a second, as if to get the boy used to the feeling of him there. Shido shuddered in his want and moaned softly. He carefully sunk his fangs into that delicious, racing pulse point. Blood rushed onto his tongue, sending Cain into his own kind of ecstasy.

Shido gasped and moaned louder at the sparp sting at his neck. Cain had bit him. But he found he didn't mind at all. In fact, it felt good. Really good. As did the man's hand slowly pumping his erection. And he felt like he wanted Cain to do more to him. Anything, anything if it made him feel like this. Shido was also starting to feel light headed. Like he was loosing a lot of blood. The pressure building in his loins not helping any. Shido sobbed quietly as he felt his organ twitch and the dream world went totally white.

The silver haired youth shot up in bed, eyes snapping open. He felt a strange stickiness that proved that he'd not just come in his dreams. His eyes went to the darkened corners of his room and he frowned. It had just been a dream. A damned sexy, wonton, achingly erotic dream. Unconsciously, he reached up and brushed the side of his neck. It felt strangely warm and a little damp. For a second he thought he felt two small puncture wounds, before they were gone as well.

In his head, he heard Cain's departing words, before waking from the dream. They echoed in his head, feeling suddenly more real. “One more time. Just one more time and you'll be forever mine.” Shido just sat with his hand on his neck. He found himself wondering if being Cain's forever was at all a bad thing
