Shido didn't even know what to do. His mind was swimming with what he'd just seen. With what he'd just found out. And he was starting to understand. Understand everything. Cain had said it. Some people let themselves get taken over by lust. And what of Cain? Fredrick had said some awful things about the man. And Shido didn't know if what he'd been saying was true, or if it was the NightBreed talking through him. Though one thing stood out in his mind. What Fredrick had said before taking his own life. That if he didn't believe him, he should go to the chapel.

Shido didn't know what the chapel had to do with anything. But Fredrick had said Cain might be there. And in the end, it hadn't been the NightBreed. That had been Fredrick. And Shido wanted to believe Fredrick. He wanted to believe the man who'd given up his very soul in order to gain his love. So he wanted to believe that Cain was in the Chapel. Which is why he found himself storming into the quiet place he'd hidden in only a day earlier.

He felt bad for breaking the strange silence of the church. The sound of the door slamming against the wall shattering the quiet. Not at all noticing the high vaulted ceilings or the stained glass windows that somehow filtered in light that shouldn't have been there. The golden light shouldn't have been there when it was in the middle of the night. But he was too confused and too angry to pay attention to that small strangeness.

His voice made the silence shatter once again. He'd never heard himself so angry before. It almost scared him how angry he did sound. “Cain! He said you'd be here!” Nothing. Not an answer. And no strange feeling that he got whenever Cain really was around. Cain wasn't there. But Shido didn't care. Even if the blond wasn't there, he needed to get this off his chest. Get it off his chest before it ate him alive.

“You knew! You knew it all along, didn't you! You knew it was him. You knew that Fredrick was one of them, and you never told me! You never even said a word. I trusted ou. I… I loved you! The least you could have done was tell me. You could have said something.” His fists clutched at this sides, nails biting into his palms. This was ridiculous yelling at Cain. The man wasn't there. And really his true anger wasn't directed at the man -- the monster Fredrick named him as -- the whatever Cain really was. It was focused inside, at himself.

He glared at the crucifix upon the wall of the church. He could feel words spilling out of him. Tears following shortly behind them. He wanted answers. Answers he knew no one could give him. And it hurt to know that. “Why? Why did any of this have to happen? He let himself be taken by it. He did it because he loved me. It's my fault. I wanted to save them. I really did. I wanted to save him too. But I couldn't. I was too weak. It's all my fault. It should have been me… He was worth something. He did so much good before I came along a ruined his life. You should have taken me instead.”

The boy let tears drop, turning away. “And what would you care? What would anyone care if I followed that poor man tonight? What would change if I chose to die right now? What would change? Nothing. Everything would be just the same. No one would care. No one. I can't change the world, and I know now that I never could. And it took this to show me how useless everything has truly been.” He started to stalk out, head drooped. He was going to end it. So that this would never happen again. So that he'd never ever be the cause of so many deaths ever again. He'd follow poor Fredrick.

“It will be an eternal darkness.” Another voice cut in, making Shido turn. He knew that voice so well now. And his heart felt like it was shattering again, just hearing it. Cain. But Cain was not where he'd expected the man to be. The blond was actually floating just above his line of sight. Hovering in the midst of the strange ethereal lighting, just suspended in the air. His golden main of wavy hair ruffled around him, and his tailored coat billowed, as if caught by a phantom wind. His hands were spread slightly, as if mockery of the crucifix just below him.

Cain continued downwards, to land silently on the floor. “There is no afterlife anywhere. Only darkness on earth goes on forever.” He started towards Shido, stopping face to face with the obviously shocked silver haired vision. “The humans living in the light pretend not to see the darkness. But look closer. Wherever there is light, there is darkness.”

Shido could only stand there, with his mouth slightly agape. His blue-green eyes wide. It was true. What had been said was all true. Cain was… Cain was what Fredrick had claimed he was. “I shall grant you eternity.” The man too another step towards him. Shido could only put his hand up in defense. He heard his breath catch when the man grabbed his hand so gently. Holding it as he continued to close the space between them.

“Humans are nothing more than our prey.” At those words, Shido felt suddenly ill. He fought against the hold, feeling his teeth grit. Cain was strong. Too strong. Supernaturally strong. His frightened glair getting harsher when Cain reached up with his other hand, cupping his chin, tilting his face up.

Cain could feel Shido starting to shake slightly. He knew the fear was normal. But he'd soon quiet that. He pulled Shido's face closer to hear his voice. His voice a hard, almost piercing scream. “Stop! Stop it!” As if those two words would actually halt what he was about to do.

Cain let his fangs poke out, baring his true self to the boy he loved. The boy who had said he'd trusted and loved him. “This is what you wanted, is it not?”

Shido didn't know how to react to that. He wanted something. He wanted to die. He wanted to stop all that had happened from happening again. He also wanted Cain. He wanted to be with the man. Without thinking, his hands went to clutch at the wrist of the hand holding his chin. Trying to pry it away. Trying to get away.

Shido was afraid, it seemed. Cain could hear it in his rapid breathing. Feeling the pounding of his heart. But soon that would all be over and they would be together. “There's no need to be afraid.” He murmered, trying to make the words comforting ones. “I've been waiting for so long. Waiting for you to appear in this frozen darkness.”

He carefully lifted Shido off his feet from by his chin. Trying to be careful and not injure the boy anymore than he already had too. His own face descended closer to that pale tempting neck and the mark he'd let there that night, when he'd invaded into Shido's dreams.

“Shido, it's time. Come with me.” He carefully nuzzled into the boy's neck, lightly applying pressure, puncturing the skin. He felt the blood welling up and the drunk deeply of it. Tasting the essence of the boy he was about to make his childe and his mate for eternity.

Shido felt the tiny pricks and the suddenly onset of pleasure. More than he'd never felt before. Even as his eyes became unfocused. Even as he felt his heart beat slowing. Even as his vision started to go black and all he saw was the golden light of the cathedral and the golden light he associated with Cain. Shido knew, knew that it was time. It was time to go home. Home with Cain, where he belonged. And in the middle of the night, in the middle of the White Chapel cathedral, two tiny drops of blood hit the floor and Shido was home.
