Author's Notes: I'm sorry it took me so long to update. I doubt this is really that excuseable, but school just started so I've been kinda tired and keep falling asleep while I'm struggling to stay awake and write this, just because it'll bug me if I take too long.
…I love Haruki, and if we had ever met at a time before I fell in love with Hachirou, he would’ve been my soul mate. But, regardless, I’m not willing to let my love for Hachirou go. We’ve been through too much to let it die…
Hachirou’s plane didn’t get back home until the afternoon, meaning it was too late to go to school. So now, he had missed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday all because of this funeral. He wasn’t a hard worker when he did attend school, meaning he didn’t enjoy doing make up work, and now he was looking at three days worth.
But that aside, he knew he had something more pressing to take care of, and it involved visiting Shouta. Even though he’s had many things tugging at his heartstrings as of late, he knew he had to end this now. He didn’t want to do it at school, it would be too awkward. So after he got home and put his things away, he walked a few blocks until he arrived at the navy-haired boy’s house.
After a quick knock on the door, Hachirou was standing face-to-face with the boy. The blond thought his soon to be ex-boyfriend looked rather different, more… older. He was slightly taller since the first day they met, almost meeting Hachirou’s height but not quite. He also looked more mature, but perhaps it was the blond’s imagination.
“Hi Hachirou,” Shouta greeted, although not overly friendly like usual.
“Shouta,” the blond nodded. “Do you think we can sit down and talk?”
“Of course,” Shouta agreed as he motioned for Hachirou to come inside.
Hachirou walked into the familiar living room, thinking this might even be the last time he sits on this pattered couch again.
“I don’t wanna keep you or anything, so I just want to get to the point,” Hachirou began. Shouta merely raised an eyebrow as the other boy continued. “This relationship… it can’t happen.”
“So you found out about what I did too?”
“Of course. Who do you think you’re fooling?”
“I always had the slight suspicion that you were cheating on me since we were together so… that’s why I did it. I’m sorry it had to end this way between us but honestly, I agree just as well that this relationship can’t happen.”
After an awkward silence, Hachirou finally spoke. “You never struck me as the type, Shouta. Y’know, to cheat on someone.”
“I didn’t think so either,” Shouta sighed before opening the front door for the blonde.
The next day, Shouta walked into Mr. Kojima’s homeroom alone. He knew the man was probably going to speak to him, because ever since Akira’s been dating him the teacher has become a little too friendly with the younger brother.
“Hey Shouta, where’s your boyfriend?” he asked. “I haven’t seen him for the past three days.”
“What boyfriend?” Shouta responded, knowing full-well whom he meant. He just didn’t have the patience to explain.
“You know, Hachirou?” Kojima elaborated.
“Like I said, what boyfriend?” Shouta repeated, trying to get his point across without having to speak to much to this man. He couldn’t see himself being more than polite with this man who was his teacher and his brother’s boyfriend, it was just too odd. Sometimes, he even had to sleep with ear plugs or put the pillow over his head when he could hear the two going at it, which was even more disturbing when it was the teacher you looked at every day. Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t bad looking, in fact he was one of the best looking staff members at Susumu High. Hell, Hachirou kept his picture at his bedside drawer. Still, Shouta just couldn’t bring himself to like the man and this relationship was always going to remain as disturbing to him even in the very core of his being. That said, he just didn’t want to explain his love life to his brother’s boyfriend-slash-teacher.
“Oh I see now, I’m sorry about that. No one as nice as you should have to go through that,” Mr. Kojima spoke, although Shouta couldn’t tell whether he was being polite or he really meant it.
“Thanks, I hope someone as nice as my big brother will never have to go through it either,” Shouta replied rather coldly. It was a bit uncalled for, but it was Shouta’s biggest fear that this man was only playing with Akira’s heart. After all, he willingly slept with a married man, what else would he do?
“Rest assured that I don’t think someone as nice as Akira deserves that either,” Kojima responded. Truth be told that although you couldn’t tell from the man’s rough exterior, he was absolutely smitten with Akira Nanami. Why do you think he made a regular phone call to the man every day during homeroom? Sometimes he even had dinner waiting for him, although he wasn’t exactly the best chef. And sometimes he’d even be waiting in the bedroom to… um, well, there’s really no reason to explain. But the point is he loves his Akira, and he’d never treat him like Hachirou inevitably did to everyone else. And yes, even the teachers knew how Hachirou was…
And speak of the devil, he walked in the classroom two minutes before school was due to start. His entrance gained a negative expression from the navy-haired teen, and the blonde’s response was the same. They’d obviously broken up on bad terms, and it radiated off of them like crazy. So much in fact, that it was apparent to everyone in the classroom, especially one person in particular.
The red-haired teen grinned, although he tried to keep it mostly to himself so it wouldn’t appear as though he was actually happy the two broke up. Because he wasn’t. Like hell isn’t hot.
Kaito had made a recent discovery about himself. He realized that he thrives on other’s unhappiness, and he can’t be happy until someone suffers like he has. Or, maybe it’s just Shouta that makes him feel that way. Because you’ll never see Kaito any happier than the day he purposely broke Shouta and Hachirou up. Sure he can’t take all the credit, since it was pretty much Shouta that caused his own demise, but he talked to Nobu, got friendly with him, and gave him Shouta’s number. So, you could say that he helped them along a little. Did he feel guilty? Slightly. But not over Shouta, over what happened to Nobu, him losing his virginity to someone who didn’t even love him. Then, Kaito shrugged it off, thinking, ah well, no one ever told to kid to strip off his clothes and jump in the bed anyways. His loss. Literally.
“Kaito,” the mint-haired boy whispered, tapping on his boyfriend’s shoulder. “I’ve got good news.”
“Yeah?” Kaito acknowledged him, being broken from his thoughts.
“You know about that camera system in my house I told you about right? Well the only thing that the cameras can be seen on is my dad’s laptop, and he just sent it to the shop this morning since it’s broken. Which means…”
“He can’t see the cameras in your bedroom,”
“Which also means…”
“…I think I know where you’re going with this, and I like it,” Kaito replied, a smirk forming. “So that means I’m coming to your house after school?”
“Yep. My mom and my dad are both going to be working until around eight or nine, and by then you’ll be back into your house. No one’ll be the wiser.”
“Then I’m in,” Kaito agreed. “I’ll just tell Mariko we’re going to hang out or something.”
As the bell rang, the two boys left promptly out the classroom as they planned their evening.
Instead of sitting between Shouta and Kaito in their computer class, like usual, Hachirou decided to sit with someone whom had been in that class all year but he hadn’t paid any attention to.
Takeshi.
“Well well, what do I owe the surprise?” the navy-haired senior spoke as Hachirou took the available computer beside him.
“Would you like me to cut to the chase, or be casual?” Hachirou questioned.
“Let’s be casual for once. We haven’t talked in… has it been years now? Three or four I’d guess,” Takeshi recalled as the two logged in to their computers.
“I’m guessing so. You and my brother still fuck-buddies?” Hachirou questioned as casually as if he was asking the weather.
“Eh… I wouldn’t say that exactly, it’s a little different now.”
That made Hachirou raise an eyebrow as he pulled up his old work file to finish. “How so?”
“We’re kinda exclusive,”
“As in dating? I thought he had a girlfriend,”
“One: I wouldn’t say we were dating either, we’re just what I said, exclusive. As in, only having sex with each other. You know how it is with the people on sports teams in Susumu, we really can’t go around dating other guys or our rival schools’ll think we’re pussies. The exclusive thing is bad enough, we’re kinda keeping it a secret as it is,” Takeshi explained. “Very secret, so don’t blab. Two: as for the girlfriend, she dumped him, said he was too much of a softie.”
“Like I’d tell. But isn’t football season over with anyways?”
“Yes, but I still think it’d be better to just… not be open with it. I’d like to actually get in college first, and since I’m graduating this year it’d be great if the colleges don’t see me as just ‘that gay kid that plays football okay.’ Or even basketball for that matter, ‘cuz I don‘t want them picking that bastard Ryuunosuke over me just because he‘s straight… or he does a good job acting like it, I dunno.”
“…You like him don’t you?”
“Ryuunosuke?! Gods no!” Takeshi exclaimed, which earned him a look from Mr. Sakata.
“Not him, my brother,”
“Oh… Shichirou,” Takeshi said slowly, looking intently at his computer screen now. Although his skin was darker, Hachirou swore that he could see him blushing. “Well I’m not going to lie, I’ve liked him since I sampled him back in our freshman year. At first I thought ‘oh he’s just gonna be another notch in my bedpost’ but then I noticed how cute, loving, caring and considerate he was. Did I also mention that he’s fucking orgasmic? Then I slept with him again… and again…and again…and again-”
“Okay I get the picture,” Hachirou groaned. “It was love at first fuck and you couldn’t keep your dick in your pants, now please move on with the story, there’s only fifty minutes in the period y’know.”
“Alright. Well sophomore year, there was this girl who went to the all girls school not far from here. Those girls are our cheerleaders. That girl happened to meet up with him at a football game, and she wanted to grab something to eat with him afterwards. Now, the point where I realized something was wrong was when he asked me beforehand ‘would it be okay with you if me and this girl went out tonight after the game?’ My head was screaming no but I knew I couldn’t hold him back so I said yes. Lo and behold, he actually liked the girl and they started dating!”
“Personally I don’t understand what my brother sees in women, they’re nothing but nagging, bossy, controlling, needy bitches. And as far as I’m concerned, that if it wasn’t for the mere need of procreation, I’d suggest they all jump off a cliff somewhere,” Hachirou ranted, while Takeshi gave him a look.
“Well damn. Some girls are okay, but what you just described fit her to a t, I thought she was no good for him. And all he did was let her walk all over him for nearly two years, loving her unconditionally while she did nothing but complain. And I had to sit back and watch that! Then after all that, she has the nerve to break up with him because he’s too soft! Personally I love that about him, but he really felt bad about it,”
“Maybe it’s because my mom’s always saying things to him like he’s too sensitive, he’s worthless, you don’t even have enough backbone to be man of the house… the list goes on.”
Takeshi looked slightly upset now. “That’s awful, it’s probably why he has such low self-esteem already.”
“He has low self esteem?” Hachirou questioned. This proved that him and his brothers know next to nothing about each other.
“Let me put it this way: the night she broke up with him he came over to my house. He was going on and on about all his ‘horrible qualities’ and saying that’s why she broke up with him. He was so damn sensitive about anything you said about him then… So it was left up to me to pick up the pieces and console him in the only way I knew how. And afterwards we stayed up talking until like four in the morning,”
Listening to Takeshi talk about him and Shichirou reminded Hachirou in some ways of his and Shouta’s relationship, as much as it annoyed him to say it. Hachirou thought Shouta was just going to be another notch, until he got to know him and ended up promising to stay loyal. The only difference- and perhaps the most important -between the two couples was that Takeshi never really had to work at staying faithful to Shichirou, it just happened. And they aren’t even really dating!
This kinda touched the blond in one of those tv happily-ever-after type ways, and it made Hachirou wish that his brother and Takeshi really could be together. But the outlook isn’t so great, considering that most colleges are pretty biased when it comes to picking football or basketball players, and homosexual doesn’t likely fit in the criteria. Coaches like their players to be tough and manly, and the popular opinion is that sports players can’t be that if they’re mounting another man. But there’s no use in Hachirou contemplating it anymore, all he can do is hope for the best…
“By the way you never told me why you sat over here in the first place,” Takeshi pointed out.
After learning how much Takeshi likes Shichirou, he couldn’t bare to tell him what he came over for. He was going to suggest just casual sex, since he was now single (not that being in a relationship ever stopped him) and he needed to do something to take his mind off Shouta. “It’s ok, it doesn’t really matter.”
“Hmm, you wanted sex, didn’t you?”
“…Yeah, but I decided against it, seeing as how you love Shichirou so much, I couldn’t bear to do it,”
“I could tell, considering this is your first time talking to me in three years- what else would you want?” Takeshi laughed before continuing. “But even if you hadn‘t decided against it, I would’ve had to decline anyways.”
“…Have you thought about telling him you love him?” Hachirou questioned.
“No. And I appreciate that you don’t either,” Takeshi said as more of a threat than a suggestion. “It’ll make him worry needlessly.”
Mr. Sakata announced that class a was almost over and it was time to sign out of the computers. It was just then that both Takeshi and Hachirou realized they had accomplished next to nothing all period.
“Heh,” Takeshi laughed weakly as he and Hachirou both signed out of their respectable computers. “Sorry I talked you to death all period.”
“Nah it’s alright. I’ll get all this crap finished… eventually. But actually Takeshi, there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you for a long time. And since you told me your secret, I should repay you with a secret of mine.”
“And what would that be?”
Hachirou took a breath, before saying, “Just remember that this isn’t going to change anything, it’s just something I want to get off my chest.” He realized he was trying to convince himself more than Takeshi. “See, those three years ago, when you and I went and did that thing we did, to me, it wasn’t just ‘something to do’. I liked you back then, and I thought that by giving you my body, than that would get you to like me back, despite the age difference and the fact that I was a newly deflowered virgin.”
“Newly deflowered virgin? You mean when we had sex you weren’t a virgin anymore?” Takeshi questioned, an eyebrow raised.
“No… see, me and Kaito had sex before then, because I wanted to see what it would be like before I actually had to go through with it. We agreed it didn’t count though,”
“Despite the fact that I’m relieved I wasn’t your first, you know you can’t just scrap your first time. It happened, your body always remembers,” Takeshi scolded the younger teen.
“Why does it matter? I took him, so technically for me it didn’t count. You were the first person ever inside of me, and that’s all that matters,” Hachirou argued.
After he finished, the bell rang and the pair got up and headed towards the door.
“But that’s not your first time. Kaito was. Case closed,”
“Why are you so bent at proving me wrong?”
“Because like I said your first time is special, and should be shared with someone equally as special… and I’m just not that to you. And you know it. Now, we’re going to have to talk later because I’m going to be late for gym,” Takeshi replied sternly before waving as he ran off in the opposite direction.
“Damn it…” Hachirou sighed as he headed to his next class. “Why, at the expense of everyone else’s happiness, do I always end up with nothing?”
(An Excerpt From The Journal of Shouta) March 5th
…I just so happened to talk to Ryuunosuke today, seeing him as I was heading to gym as usual. I hadn’t seen him in so long because when me and Hachirou were dating, we usually had so many of those “premeditated make-out sessions” that I probably never saw him anymore, Hachirou keeping me busy and all. But anyways, I saw him and we got to talking casually, like friends. Finally.
To Be Continued...
A.N. I'm kind of curious as to whether Kaito is coming off as a bit... mentally disturbed... by now. I wonder if I should tone it down? I probably will after the next chapter. But still, the kid had gone through a lot after all... But rest assured that our pretty little red-head isn't going horror movie insane.
