I'm so glad I'm not sick anymore, I spent practically the whole weekend in bed, confined to my room watching daytime television and reality shows all by myself. I spent so much time watching them to the point where they got repetitive and predictable and eventually I just turned the tv off.
I missed Hachirou a lot too. He was coming over to my house to keep me company, but eventually we decided it was doing us more harm than good to spend that much time around each other when we couldn't even have any contact. That's why when I saw him I ran up to him and embraced him like in those movies when two people haven't seen each other in a long time.
"Hey Hachirou," I greeted him, smiling.
He was grinning as well. "Hey Shouta-kun, you're all better, I'm glad," he replied, kissing me in front of the school building.
"It was so boring being at home for so long by myself... well at least I was sick on a weekend so I only missed friday," I explained.
"Of course, you're worried about your spotless attendance record aren't you?" Hachirou teased me as we walked to class.
Kaito's P.O.V.
Since yesterday, after I left from Hachirou's house, I've been on some kind of creative frenzy. I've been sketching a black and white picture of a man who I haven't even decided what he's going to look like yet. I don't even know what his name's going to be, I guess it'll just come to me as I go on.
In homeroom, I worked on my picture more while Shouta and Hachirou talked like usual. After that intimate endeavor two days ago with Hachirou I kind of felt confident again about my ability to break the two up. Shouta was just too nice, never the kind of person Hachirou could make his fantasies come true with. So I decided that I was going to save them the pain of this relationship and break them up, even though I haven't decided exactly how yet.
The man sprouted full and detailed angel wings and long hair as I only half listened to the announcements and Mr. Kojima's phone conversation (which have been getting more frequent recently.) But then, I stopped as I felt someone watching over me.
"I never knew you drew," the short, pale green-haired sophomore Haruki Tsukino remarked, standing beside my desk.
"Yeah, sometimes. Look, it's not all that-," I began.
"Don't even say it!" he interrupted. "You were going to put yourself down, weren't you?"
"Does it matter? If you think I need your little self-help low self-esteem tactics you can take it and shove it, you hear me?" I argued, trying to keep my voice down.
"Is that a picture of anyone in particular?" He asked, completely ignoring my last statement.
I looked at it and decided it kind of looked like Rokurou, but I wasn't so sure yet if that's who I really wanted it to be. "Well, I really haven't figured it out," I finally answered. "I usually keep drawing and then I'll figure out who it is."
"Well, whoever he turns out to be, it must be someone you hold in high regard if you gave them angel wings," he remarked, rocking back and forth on his heels.
"Not necessarily," I responded.
"Do you normally dismiss everything someone says when someone's talking to you?" Haruki asked.
"Do you normally ask so many stupid questions?" I countered.
"See, there you go again...," he pointed out, laughing as the bell rang to leave class. "It's a wonder you have friends."
"Actually I don't, so get off my case already," I said as I walked down the hall to Sakata sensei's class, completely losing sight of Hachirou and Shouta because of him bothering me.
And he wouldn't leave me alone. "Well how about you and I? We can start off as acquaintances and work our way up to uh, you know, friends. Maybe we'll actually get along and find out we have a lot in common if you just give me a chance."
"You know Hachirou right?"
"Who doesn't? He's irresistibly delicious,"
"What did you say?"
"Nothing. Go on,"
"Well me and him have been best friends since preschool, we go way back. He's my best friend and I don't need any other friends or acquaintances or anything else to work up towards so can you please leave me alone?"
"You’re really odd, you know that? I’ve never met anyone who didn’t want any more friends,”
“The one I have is bad enough,” I sighed. “You just don’t understand.” I stepped into Sakata-sensei’s class moments before the bell rang.
“Well, see you in gym then, acquaintance,” Haruki waved as he ran off to his own class.
Wait a second…. He’s in my gym class?
Hachirou's P.O.V.
“I’ve been noticing a lot of… affectionate boys in this class since I’ve been substituting here, and I wonder if any of you have taken health class before?” our substitute, some lady named Miss Shizuka said as we were sitting on the bleachers in gym.
“Hachirou,” Shouta whispered in my ear. “Don’t you think it’s really making the problem worse to have me sit in your lap?”
“Nah, she’s a softy, screw her,” I responded. “She won’t do anything like Mr. Fugiwara would, I can tell.”
“I know,” Shouta sighed, “But doing such affectionate things like sitting on your lap and hugging and kissing in public is just so, embarrassing!”
“But you’re my boyfriend, you shouldn’t think of it as embarrassing. Does it kind of feel like the whole room is watching only you when you do affectionate things?” I asked.
“Yeah, kind of,” he responded.
“Well, it’s because they’re jealous! They’re all mad because we have such an awesome relationship together. There are tons of guy at our school that would kill to be in your spot, and tons that would kill to be in mine. But they missed out, and they’re just a bunch of pissed poor sports,” I explained, smiling.
Then Shouta started smiling too, and kissed me. “Wow, I can’t even imagine there are people who would die to be where I am right now, I feel so lucky…”
He has absolutely no clue….
Kaito's P.O.V.
“Hey you two over there! Cut that lovey dovey crap out, this is a school!” Miss Shizuka yelled.
I was sitting at the other end of the gym, looking at Shouta and Hachirou acting all cozy, it disgusts me. Sometimes, I think that Shouta is just out to annoy me, or mock me, on purpose.
“Jealousy is a disturbing little thing, isn’t it?” I heard a familiar voice say.
“What are you talking about?” I argued. “Why is everyone calling me jealous?”
“Because, I’m not sure if there’s any other way to say it: you are jealous of Shouta because he’s Hachirou’s boyfriend and you’re not. Nothing to be ashamed of though, mostly everybody is. But don’t think any less of yourself, you are just as cute, maybe even cuter, than Shouta is,” Haruki complimented me, like he loves to do.
“If I were as cute or even cuter than Shouta, then why were you the only one to ever tell me so? In fact, you’re the only one who ever gives me all these stupid compliments all the time. You’re probably just lying,” I complained.
“Look, I’m not lying. It’s truly what I think about you, but not many people can even work up the nerve to talk to you. And you know why? Because you don’t like to believe that anyone thinks good things about you and you won’t accept the stupid complements!” Haruki confessed.
“So that’s really all you want? For me to accept your compliments?” I asked.
“Yep, that’s it. Oh, and for you to stop being so obsessive over Shouta and Hachirou, I’m telling you, it’s not a very healthy habit of yours,”
“You like to butt in my personal life a lot,”
“Don’t call it butting in, but more of wanting to be a part of your personal life,”
“So you’re saying we should spend time together after school one day?”
“Exactly, I’d like to get to know you better. Or better yet, love to get to know you better,” he hinted, winking as he got up and walked away.
I looked at the clock and noticed that class had flown by so quickly…
I was in unusually bright spirits today, so that’s why I decided to sit in the sun and finish my sketch while waiting for Kanon to come out from her school. Everything about that day was just so unusual, the weather, my good mood, Haruki’s confession, and my sudden creative spark. Now I know for sure that I’m going to have an absolutely brilliant idea soon.
Well anyways it came to me while I was sitting on a bench outside, drawing. I occasionally looked at the people coming out of the building when I noticed someone that I just so happen knew very well all because of my sister and some events that occurred last semester.
His name was Nobuyuki Ueda, the local freshman heart throb at this school. Although I recognized him at once, he sure didn't look like a heart throb to me, and I know some things about cute guys. For one thing, he was walking all by himself and two, he was wearing these glasses that I really don't like. But my sister had a huge crush on him not too long ago, and even cut her hair to get him to like her...
...Until all the girls found out that he didn't like any of them, and he actually liked Shouta-kun. Hmm, I could use this to my advantage.
“Ueda-san!” I called, waving.
“Chiase-sempai?” he wondered, as he walked over.
“No need for formalities, we’re friends right?” I asked, trying to be sociable.
“Oh, yeah!” he responded, nodding. “It’s just I haven’t talked to you in a long time, that’s all.” He looked like he was searching for words, “So how’s Kanon doing?”
“She’s alright,” I said, quickly getting to the real reason I was talking to him. “So, you talk to Shouta-kun lately?”
“Shouta-kun?” he gasped, the obvious delight showing on his face as he lit up. “Well,” he began, turning crimson. “I haven’t talked to Shouta-kun since he moved.”
“Oh,” I replied nonchalantly. “Well I see him all the time. If you want to talk to him sometime, I could arrange it…”
“Yeah, that’d be great!” he exclaimed, flushed. He was so naive and enthusiastic, him and Shouta would make a much nicer pair than Hachirou and Shouta.
“Then I’ll be seeing you…” I said, waving him off as he headed home. Now, where the hell is Kanon?

Seis_Child06: Hey, what’s up?
Fire_Deviant: I didn’t expect you to talk to me after what happened the other night.
Seis_Child06: I’m still pissed I didn’t get any that night.
Fire_Deviant: Well sorry, but Hachirou was upset and I couldn’t leave him. I didn’t know you were brothers…
Seis_Child06: Half-brothers.
Fire_Deviant: I found out that he liked Gorou.
Seis_Child06: Him and Gorou were both dumb for that. They kind of messed around a bit but now Gorou has someone serious and he wants to cut Hachirou off. But Hachi doesn’t listen, and I think he’s all blinded by love. The relationship was stupid to begin with.
Fire_Deviant: Sounds like déjà-vu.
Seis_Child06: How?
Fire_Deviant: Same thing Hachirou did to me. We used to mess around all the time but now that he has his Shouta he doesn’t want me anymore.
Seis_Child06: Maybe it’s time for you and Hachirou to learn a lesson from all this. You guys really don’t need to be anything like fuck buddies if you can’t keep emotions out of it. How’d this all start?
Fire_Deviant: Well pretty much in the seventh grade me and him were curious…
Seis_Child06: Ah. Like I said, Hachirou needs to just focus on his little boyfriend before he loses out on that by being stupid, and you need to focus on all the people you’ve been ignoring.
Fire_Deviant: I haven’t ignored anybody.
Seis_Child06: My guess is you have. Just distance yourself from Hachi a little while and you’ll begin to notice.
Fire_Deviant: But he’s still my best friend.
Seis_Child06: You guys need to learn how to be just friends again, or that’s going to be the death of you. No more screwing around, no matter how much your body betrays you.
Fire_Deviant: Well thanks for the advice, but I gotta go. Dinner time.
Seis_Child06: Okay, see you.
Fire_Deviant is logged out.
Seis_Child06 is logged out.
I walked into the dining room table and took a seat on the end. The family actually looked surprised to see me, I guess since I’ve been locked in my room avoiding them, that’s a valid expression to make.
My baby sister Kaori sat next to me, but didn’t say anything and just stared at me.
“Hey Kaori, is something the matter?” I asked the sad looking girl, but she just shook her head.
My youngest brother Kouta sat across from me and started piling food on his plate at once. He can pack away a lot, but he burns a lot of that food off from being all hyper. “Hey Kai, I’ve been meaning to ask you something,” he began, before taking a bite. “I got this new video game, and I was wondering would you play it with me?”
“Sorry, not tonight,” I replied, not really in the mood to play anything.
“No silly, tonight daddy rented this movie and we’re all going to watch it together. You too, right Kai?” Kanon more or less indirectly asked me. “It’s an action movie, your favorite.”
“No thanks,” I shrugged, and Kouta and Kanon exchanged glances.
After a long silence at the dinner table, my dad changed the subject and asked, “So Kouta, what did you and your friends do after school today?”
“We went running around the neighborhood several times. You know, when I get in junior high I think I want to run track,” he responded, talking rather fast like he does when he gets excited. “I’d be like big bro, he ran track in junior high, and big sis still runs track!”
“Well Kaito has the body for it, he was really good at it,” Kanon mused. “In fact, you guys should go running together one morning.”
I don’t know why she’s going on about how I have a great running body, that was a year ago I ran track, and now I’ve just gotten fat.
“It seems like this family has a lot of runners in it. Are you going to run like your big brothers and sister too?” Mariko asked Kaori, but she just shook her head in response.
“If Kaori could run as fast as she talks she could!” Kouta pointed out.
It was when he said that that I realized exactly what was wrong with this picture: Kaori wasn’t talking anymore. She usually asks so many questions that it’ll make your brain overload. Katashi, my other brother who was older than Kouta but younger than Kanon, wasn’t talking either. Now he wasn’t that much of a talker, but it’s rare for him to not speak at all. The only people acting the slightest bit lively at this table were Kouta and Kanon.
“Okay, who wants dessert?” Mariko announced as she made her way into the kitchen. “It’s strawberry short cake this time.”
“Ooh, that’s big bro’s favorite!” Kouta exclaimed, him, Kanon, and my dad looking at me expectantly.
“I know it’s my favorite but… I’ve gained a lot of weight lately,” I argued.
“Nonsense, one slice won’t hurt you,” Mariko insisted as she sat the plate in front of me.
I just stared at the slice of cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Does anyone care if cake is my downfall?
“If you’re worried about your weight, we could just go running tomorrow…” Kouta reminded me.
“No thank you, really,” I responded, pushing the plate away as I got up from the table and walked into my room, promptly shutting and locking the door.
“I tried to be nice sis, I really did,” he complained
“I know you did,” she comforted him. “I’m just confident that he might be going through something serious he doesn’t want us to know about. But he’ll come around eventually.”
“I just wish Kaito would play with me again…” Kouta sighed.
“Kouta, Kaito isn’t going to come around, he only cares about himself and his little problems. He doesn’t care about us anymore, what kind of big brother is that?” a new voice, Katashi’s, argued.
I couldn’t help it, after hearing all this I burst out my room and defended myself. “I do care about you guys!”
“Then why are you always trying so hard to stay away from us? You come home, don’t even say hi, and immediately barricade yourself in your room for hours on end. Then half the time you eat dinner in your room, and the next time we might see you is during breakfast the next morning before we head off to school!”
“Look, I’m too old to be doing this stuff anymore. I can’t go around playing with my little brothers and sisters, I have actual important things to worry about now,”
That statement might’ve been a bit much, because it looked like he was a bit hurt. But Katashi needed to know where I was coming from, and that they’re all being selfish to expect me to be big brother all the time. “I can’t wait until you die,” he spoke coldly. Now that, I thought was a bit harsh but since we’re all fighting here, more power to him.
“Okay, okay, what’s going on in here?” my dad said as he walked into the living room. Kanon and Kouta were at a loss for words, before they just headed back to their respectable rooms. Katashi tried to leave too but my dad caught him by the wrist. “Do we have something to say?”
“Am I supposed to apologize to him, because with all due respect dad, I’m not going to,” Katashi stood firm.
Dad sat on the couch and motioned for me and him to sit on either side of him. “Kaito, do you realize that everyone in this family misses you a lot since you’ve begun distancing yourself?”
“Yes, but you’re acting like this is all my fault. I’m not entitled to be upset, or to want to spend time away from my family?” I argued
“Yes you are. But life’s hard like that, and spending time with your siblings who miss you might make you feel better. Kaori’s not speaking anymore for one thing,”
“It’s because she’s scared to talk to him because all he does is yell,” Katashi butted in.
“Who asked you?” I countered.
“It’s true, she told me so,” he added, directing that more to dad than to me. “Not to mention that Kouta is practically begging you to spend time with him, if you couldn’t tell. Even Kanon misses you but you won’t talk to her.”
Well me and Kanon never talked much anyways…
“But there’s one more person that misses you the most, and he really hasn’t been himself lately either,” my dad hinted, putting his arms around Katashi.
“I don’t miss him! He can go rot in Hell for all I care!” my younger brother whined.
I’m not sure what compelled me to do this, maybe the fact that I used to hug him a lot when he was younger, but I reached out to him. For a second he looked at me like I was crazy, like any middle school kid who was offered a hug would. But after a minute, he graciously accepted it, almost knocking me over.
My dad silently made his leave as my brother started crying, tears falling on my shirt. “I’m sorry Kaito, I didn’t mean it!” he sobbed. “I don’t want you to rot and I don’t want you to die! I just want you to stay with me okay? Please?”
“I’m sorry Katashi for not paying attention to you,” I apologized. Was I… was I crying too? God damn it. “But I’ll try harder from now on, okay?”
“You promise?”
“I promise. And there’s no need for you to say sorry, it’s all my fault,”
“No it was mine,”
“It was my fault,”
“Fine it was your fault!”
Then the strangest thing happened, he smiled again. And now I know I’ve found the people I’ve been ignoring all along.

I walked home on that unusually warm March afternoon by myself since Hachirou and Shouta took the city bus downtown to see a movie. I would’ve made an honest attempt to have Haruki walk home with me so we could spend time together, but he said he had to go straight home to babysit his little sister today.I was in unusually bright spirits today, so that’s why I decided to sit in the sun and finish my sketch while waiting for Kanon to come out from her school.

I’m glad that Rokurou and I had that discussion, even if it was on instant messaging. But doing all the things he said was going to be difficult. I should’ve asked him if he was off limits… Either way, I guess me being around is just ruining the good thing that Hachirou is trying to build with Shouta, but I can’t stand suddenly being split apart from my best friend and I’m not even able to screw around with him to make it all better. Maybe I should do what Hachirou used to do, and just fuck random cuties from our school. Oh wait, he only could do that because he was hot, and I don’t look anywhere near as good as Hachirou.I walked into the dining room table and took a seat on the end.

After awhile of being locked in my room, I heard the voices of Kanon and Kouta in the living room.“I tried to be nice sis, I really did,” he complained
