Chapter 3: Home Sweet Home
Both brothers stood in front the door as Kel raised his hand to ring the doorbell. A distant melody was heard throughout the house, and it only took a minute for the front door to swing open revealing a middle aged woman in her 40's. Chase and Kel plastered on their most dashing smiles before greeting the woman who smiled politely in return.
“Good Afternoon,” Kel greeted courteously, “My brother and I were passing through when our car broke down and we were wondering if we may use your phone, if it wouldn't be too much trouble of course?” Kel finished with a charming smile.
“My, what polite young men, manners are so rare these days,” the woman replied with a friendly smile. “Please, come—“
“Mary, who's at the d— oh, hello,” an older looking man with soon to be gray hair asked before coming to stand beside his wife.
“Hello, sir,” Chase replied in a clipped tone, irritation rising in his voice. Chase was never one for patience, especially when dealing with humans. If the situation were different, he would have already had walked into the house and snap both of their fragile human necks, no words necessary. However, the red tape can be a real bitch. Since this was not their realm, and they were in fact true demons, they could not enter the homes of others without the consent of the owner, they must be invited. This is the only restriction that goes against their kind. It would be easy to compel them, but, unfortunately, as long as these humans stand behind the threshold and voice no invitation towards the demons standing in their doorway, then they will remain protected from their influence and power.
“Please excuse the disturbance,” Chase continued, his courteous tone of voice firmly back in place, “But our car won't start and we were wondering if it wouldn't be too much trouble for us to use your phone to call and have it towed,” Chased finished smiling brightly at the couple.
“Nonsense!” the man exclaimed, causing the smiles of both brothers to instantly fall from their faces, irritation slowly edging its way into their polished self-control. “This shouldn't be taking so fucking long,” Kel thought while shooting his brother a glance. Although his patience was still firmly in place, he knew his brother would be losing his very soon.
“I'm a mechanic,” the man declared with a friendly smile, “And tow trucks around here take a while to come, I'll take a look at it for you. Probably just needs a jump.”
“Mechanic, huh” Chase thought sarcastically, creating a telepathic link between him and his brother. “How does he explain that shit-box dying in the driveway then?” Kel resisted the urge to roll his eyes at his brother's comment.
The man tilted his head to glance over the two boys to get a look at the car. “Where's your car?” the man questioned.
Chase and Kel shared a look, a moment of silent communication quickly passing between the two before their smiles reappeared.
“Oh, it's right there,” Kel motioned with a nod of his head in the direction of the vehicle. Parked on the side of the road in front on the house was a Yellow colored 2010 Chevy Camaro, with two thick black stripes going down the hood of the car and cutting off in the back. The muscle car was a 2-door, complete with black leather interior, tinted windows and chrome rims which shined in the sunlight.

“She's a beauty,” the man replied, his tone showing he was clearing impressed. “Didn't see that there a second ago.”
“Thank you”, Chase replied politely, ignoring the other comment. “Step out of the fucking house already!” he seethed in his mind.
No sooner then he thought it; the man stepped out of the house walking over to the car that stood along the curb. Both boys smiled and nodded at the woman before following behind the man. The man stood in front of the car while Kel popped the hood for him, mindfully aware that they have now gained the attention of others walking down the street. The man took a look under the hood, his brow crinkling in confusion as he looked upon what seemed to be a completely new and clean engine. As he looked away from the vehicle to gaze at the two boys, suspicion shone in his eyes upon seeing the smug look on both their faces as they smirked down at him with identical smiles.
“I don't seem to see a problem here boys…” the man said timidly, his gaze shifting between both brothers before speaking again. “Maybe you should just try starting it again,” the man suggested but became silent when he noticed neither made a move to start the car, instead they moved a little closer to him, Chase stepping in to his personal space. The man suddenly felt dizzy as Chase's icy pale blue eyes met his now frightened gaze.
“You don't know what the problem is, the car still won't start,” Chase said in a deep, hypnotic voice, his pupils dilating. “Invite us in to use your phone,” he commanded his voice dark and devoid of emotions. The man's eyes became dull and lifeless before returning to normal.
“I don't know what the problem is, the car still won't start,” he repeated, his tone no longer holding any trace of suspicion, “Why don't you come in and use the phone,” he smiled before walking back into the house and holding the door open for them. Chase and Kel knowingly grinned at each other before following the man back to the house. The invisible force blocking the doorway was now gone, allowing the brothers to step over the threshold.
As soon as they stepped into the house, Chase appeared in front of the man at an unnatural speed, snapping his neck to the side and killing him before his body hit the floor. A second later, the woman turned the corner after hearing the noise.
“Honey, did you help…AH—“Before the scream could escape her lips her body fell beside her husband's on the floor. Chase dusted off his hands while looking down to admire his handy work.
“That was unnecessary,” Kel stated dryly, “You could have just compelled them to leave, u ass.”
“I'll let you braid my hair and cry about it later, God you're such a woman,” Chase laughed at his brother, receiving a glare in return. “Now shut up and get rid of the bodies before you start growing a vagina and I start calling you Kelly,” Chase through over his shoulder before walking off in the direction of the kitchen.
Kel gritted his teeth in annoyance before composing himself and waving his hand lazily at the two bodies on the floor. The air shifted around the couple before vanishing from the room. Kel walked into the kitchen to find his brother sitting on top the counter, eating an apple.
“Since when do you eat human food,” Kel asked curiously.
He smirked. “Just because I don't need it, doesn't mean I don't like it.”
Kel shook his head at his brother, deciding to change the subject before he started rambling about all the things he didn't need but liked, which would no doubt venture into inappropriate territory.
“Whatever, you wanna change some stuff around in this house, it doesn't really look like…us,” Kel said while allowing his eyes to scan the décor of the house. The furniture was old with throw blankets spread over the top. The walls were painted a bright yellow with white trim. The rooms were fairly large and well structured, but were clustered with useless things such as plants, flowers, tables and chairs. It truly looked like an old married couple lived here…which was true up until 5 minutes ago.
Both brothers looked at each other before nodding in agreement. They both split off, taking different rooms throughout the house. Using their powers, they changed the furniture, and color of the walls and floors in every room to their liking, while adding large flat screen televisions and pool tables, as well as other devices for their entertainment and comfort. When they were finished, the house was fully re-modeled to look spacious and elegant with dark rich colors.
Nightfall was quickly approaching, and the brothers made themselves at home in their new house. Since sleep was not a necessity for either of them, they decided to take a look around town and familiarize themselves with the creatures and places of this realm.
“So, what are we, Humans or Demons?” Kel asked, taking his place at his brother's side as they ducked into their Camaro. Usually, they wouldn't bother driving but couldn't risk the exposure.
“We're too hot to be humans, little brother,” Chase smirked cockily before pulling off from the curb and onto the road. It's been years since he's been in one of these things. He almost forgot how much fun it could be. His smirk widened as he applied more pressure to the gas, the car speeding down the street.
“Demons it is then,” Kel confirmed, unaffected by his brother's reckless driving skills. It's not like a car crash could hurt them anyways. “What kind?”
Chase chuckled softly before replying. “I don't know, you're the expert on animals. Which one is your favorite to eat?” he smirked glancing in his brother's direction, who silently held up his middle finger in return.
“Aww, C'mon.” he continued to tease. “How about those little golden retrievers with those cute floppy ears, eh?”
“Can you take this seriously?” Kel snapped. “Craven's gonna be pissed if we aren't discrete about this.”
Chase rolled his eyes at his brother's lack of humor. “Fine, how about those spirit demon things? They don't have any kind of distinct features or smell so it'll be easy to pull off. And if anyone suspects us we'll just wipe their minds…or kill them.” He added with a smirk.
Kel nodded in agreement. They couldn't just walk up to these creatures and reveal themselves because as far as this realm was concerned, these creatures believed themselves to be the real shit and we're oblivious to stronger forces outside their own kind. They honestly believed that they were calling the shots; well they were in for a rude awakening.
Chase continued to drive, observing the demons and humans in the area. Many stopped to stare at the car as it passed by; knowing whoever sat beyond the tinted windows must have been new in town, since no one ever saw that particular vehicle before. Kel couldn't understand why people were staring at their car when he couldn't help but notice that most of the cars in this neighborhood were far more extravagant and expensive compared to their little Camaro. He looked over at Chase, whose expression indicated that he was thinking the same. Their car, and even the house that they stole and re-modeled, looked inferior to the cars they passed, which were parked in the driveway of one mansion looking house after the next.
Kel noticed the scowl twisting its way onto his brother's face. “Craven was right.” Chase said, his voice turning dark. “These demons have forgotten their place.” He said darkly before accelerating down the street.
Just then, a large building came into view that caught Chase's attention after turning the corner. The place looked like a club of some sort. Flashy sport cars parked in a slant, all very similar and beside each other. Humans and demons of all kinds stood in the parking lot, as if waiting on someone. Chase parked on the far end of the street, deciding to wait until more people cleared the area before going in because the last thing they needed was a grand, C.S.I slow motion entrance into a town where everyone clearly knows everyone and no one knows them. Kel, understanding what his brother was doing, continued to watch the crowd in the parking lot.
A distant noise was heard, the low grumble of car engines. The humans couldn't seem to hear it but Chase and Kel, as well as every demon in the parking lot, turned their attention to the cars that were now making their way down the road. Both brothers couldn't help but raise an identical eye brow at the scene that played out in front of them.
Speeding down the road were 10 sport cars, each in line behind the other starting from the two flanking the right and left side of the car leading in the front. They were all driving at the same pace, as if speeding ahead of the car in front would mean their painful demise. Although each vehicle seems to be similar in model and make, the colors were all different yet all equally dark. The cars pulled into the parking lot, parking on a slant like the rest. The doors all swung open, rising up rather than being pushed out, allowing the drivers and passengers to step out.
Chase and Kel watch as the demons, all large in size but some bigger than others, went around to the passenger side to put their arm around their female companions. Chase couldn't help but notice most of the women were human. The lead driver stepped around his silver Lamborghini, a path being cleared for him as he snaked his arm around the young, petite brown haired girl. This one was a dog demon, his golden eyes and markings making it obvious. The demons that came with him followed behind him in the same order they drove here in. A younger dog demon, a little shorter than the leader, flanked to his right with his woman on his arm as well. The two looked alike, same short black hair and amber colored eyes, except the shorter one had a distinct small about him that was different from that of a full demon.
“Half-Demon,” Chase stated, seeing his brother nod beside him.
Kel nodded towards the apparent leader of the bunch. “I take it we've found Kai, considering how they've all parted the way for him like he's fucking Moses.”
Chase chuckled, it wasn't often that his little brother made an attempt at humor; he was the serious one in the family. “Looks like. Who the fuck do these guys think they are? I have half a mind to walk in there, put on my Craven voice and say…I'm Batman.” Chase said trying to imitate Craven's deep voice.
Kel looked at his brother as if he was truly stupid. “Dear God…I must be adopted.” He said dryly before getting out of the car. Chase stepped out after his brother. The parking lot was mostly cleared, everyone making their way inside.
Chase couldn't stop the grin from stretching across his handsome face, his eyes sparkly with excitement before turning his gaze onto his brother. “This should be interesting.” He said before making his way across the street toward the building, Kel falling in step beside him. Since this was a public place, they didn't need to be invited in. They walked to the front entrance, opening the door and allowing the music to fill their ears as they stepped inside.
