Chapter 12: Tensions Rise

Kel's P.O.V

Kel stood by Mia's bed, watching her sleep as the sun light stretched across her form. It wasn't until the bright rays spilled across her face that her eye lids fluttered open. When her eyes met his, he half expected her to scream and holler for him to leave her room, making some girlish comment about him being a pervert. However, what he didn't expect was for her to grin at him impishly before sliding the sheet further down her body and stretching suggestively.
Kel took notice of her night ware, or rather lack of, as she arched her back up off the bed, moaning softly as she stretched her tired muscles. She wore a loose white baby-t that stopped above her abdomen, but had clearly ridden up in her sleep to stop just below her breast, and a pair of red lace panties. Her raven black hair lay sprawled out around the pillow as she gazed up at him, undoubtedly unfazed by her provocative appearance. She had yet to pull the sheet back up to cover herself and seemed perfectly comfortable with his penetrating stare that was currently directed at her.
“Morning,” she said brightly with a playful smile still in place.
“What are you doing, posing for play boy?” Kel asked dryly arching an eyebrow. “Get up, we have things to do.”
Mia rolled over onto her stomach, kicking her feet up in the air behind her. “Yeah, like what?”
Kel resisted the urge to simply grab her by the hair and fling her down the stairs rather then having this conversation.
“I told you last night, me and my brother have to test you and Sage to see what else you're immune to.” He explained desperately trying to keep his temper in check.
“Yeah about that…it must really piss you off that we're immune to begin with huh?” she asked nonchalantly. “I mean, how does it feel to know that you're not as powerful as you thought you were?”
Kel's eyes narrowed dangerously. “Are you trying to get yourself killed Mia?”
“No. And besides…if you wanted me dead then I would be, which I'm not.” She said smiling smugly.
“Yet.” Kel added his voice hard.
Mia's smile faltered slightly before falling back into place. “You're bluffing. She declared confidently.
“Is that so?” Kel replied quirking an eyebrow.
“Yes, that is so and do you know why?” she said slowly rising to her knees on the bed, coming face to face with him. “It's because you like me.”
It was then that Kel did the unexpected…he laughed. He actually laughed at her and to her face no less.
Who does this girl think she is?” he thought amusingly to himself.
“Yes, that's it. You've figured out my master plan. Oh Mia…I want you so bad, please let me fuck you, please!” Kel said his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Mia rolled her eyes at his antics. “Make fun all you want, but you're just falling further and further into denial. Don't worry, I'm a very patient woman and I know you'll come around eventually.” She said perkily before hopping out of bed and making her way towards the bathroom, winking at him before closing the door behind her.
“The audacity of this bitch…” Kel muttered under his breathe as he stomped out of the room. As he walked down the hallway he heard a crash in the next room, followed by screams and the sound of something breaking.
“You crazy bitch, c'mere!” he heard Chase yell before another crash was heard.
“Fuck you! Go back to hell, asshole!” came Sage's reply a moment later. Kel merely shook his head as he continued to make his way down the stairs, not bothering to get involved.

Chase's P.O.V

“Woman…you are working my last fucking nerve.” Chase growled menacingly before ducking another fireball. “Do you even know any other spells? You are by far the most pathetic witch I have ever met.”
At this point, Sage was shaking with rage. Without thinking, she held out both hands and pulled them upwards, lifting Chase off the ground and slamming him into the ceiling. Sage stood staring at her hands, shock written across her face. She had never been able to move people before, small objects maybe but never people.
Before her initial shock could ware off, Chase had already appeared in front of her, flinging her effortlessly onto the bed across the room.
Sage screamed as she landed hard against the mattress. “Arrgg! I'm not your fucking plaything; you can't just throw me around whenever you feel like it!” She snapped glaring daggers at him.
Chase came to stand in front of the bed, smirking down at her. “Now that's where you're wrong, little witch. You are my plaything and I will do with you whatever the hell I want, and I certainly don't need your permission.”
Sage continued to glare up at him, her eyes beginning to water. Chase suddenly felt himself become tense, praying to every god in existence that she wasn't about to do what she looked like she was about to do.
For fuck sakes…” Chase thought wearily as he watched the first tears fall.
“I HATE YOU!” she yelled as the tears flowed freely down her face.
Chase usually didn't have a problem with women crying, hell he was usually the reason 90% of the time, but seeing Sage cry because of him brought back that tugging sensation he felt earlier when he had unintentionally hurt her.
Dear God, I'm turning into a pussyor Kel he thought to himself.
“Why the fuck are you crying?” he asked harsher then he had intended.
Sage turned a watery glare towards him before replying. “Because you're a jerk!” she shot back hotly.
“So,” Chase continued arching an eyebrow, “If you're gonna turn on the water works every time I'm a jerk to you then you're gonna turn into a real cry-baby, princess.”
“You know what?” Sage said now standing to face him. “If I want to cry like a fucking baby, THEN I WILL CRY LIKE A MOTHERFUCKING BABY, understand? I will cry until I fucking forget why I was crying in the first place and even to that… I'll keep crying just to piss you off, and there isn't a goddamn thing you can do about it because you don't control me, you fucking prick!” she screamed poking him in the chest, her tears completely forgotten.
Chase stared at her throughout her little rant, a slow grin spreading across his face as she finished. “Feisty little thing, isn't she? he thought as his eyes moved down her body and back up. She was still in the t-shirt he had given her last night, which stopped about mid-thigh, and her legs were bare. He couldn't help but notice how hot she looked in the morning, a feat that not many girls could pull off.
Her face was flushed from yelling at him and her light green eyes were sparkling in the sunlight that had spilled into the room. As Chase gazed down at her, he knew he was about to do something stupid, something that he shouldn't even be thinking about doing…
It was then that he bit down into his lip before turning away from her. “Hurry up and come downstairs, we don't have all day,” he said before walking out of the room.

Sage's P.O.V

Why is he looking at me like that?” Sage thought to herself, her anger slowly dissipating.
It simply amazed her how quickly she often finds herself fighting with the demon in front of her. He was just so…infuriating! She had woken up this morning to him yanking the sheets off her body and removing the pillow from under her head. He had then rudely stated for her to “get her lazy fucking ass out of bed” before turning to leave the room again. She knew that she should have left well enough alone, but before she could stop herself the fireball had already connected with the back of his head.
If it were a normal demon, he would have been on the ground by now writhing in pain, but she had no such luck when it came to Chase who always seemed unfazed by her powers. Things at that point spiraled out of control, from him chasing her around the room to her throwing every piece of furniture his way.
And now here they were, standing no more then an inch apart with him staring at her rather strangely. In fact, if she didn't know any better she could have sworn she saw the same look in his eyes now that she saw in her dream. However, before she could do a double take, he had already turned around and left the room.
Sage then began getting dressed, putting on the same clothes from yesterday since she had nothing else to change into. Just thinking about the events which had transpired within the last few days was enough to give her a headache. Before, her only concern was finding out if Chase liked her or not, now she had a whole new list of unanswered questions running through her mind. She knew that the brothers were still keeping information from them, that much was obvious, but what she didn't understand was what she and Mia had to do with anything. Even if they were immune to Chase and Kel's freaky powers, what were they going to do about it?
Sage allowed question after question to fill her mind as she walked down the stairs, stopping her train of thought before the brothers could hear them. As she walked into the living room she saw Mia sitting on the couch with Chase and Kel off to the side.

Chase/Kel's P.O.V

“Took you long enough,” Chase glowered, though his gaze didn't met hers.
“Let's get started.” Kel said not allowing the conversation to continue knowing full well it would only turn into another pissing contest between the two.
Sage went and sat beside Mia, the two checking each other over as if to confirm that no harm was done to the other.
“We're going to need you both to get up and stand over there,” Kel said pointing to an open area in the room. Both girls did as they were told, standing side by side.
Chase and Kel shared a look. “Which one you wanna start with?” Chased asked.
“This isn't going to hurt or anything right?” Mia piped in.
“Well, if you don't shut your pie hole it just might.” Kel said clearly still annoyed by what occurred between the two earlier.
Mia grinned at him but remained silent. “Alright, let's see…” Kel said staring intensely at the two girls, his eyes narrowing in concentration.
Suddenly, Sage and Mia felt a strong force pulling at them as if the gravity in the room was increasing. The two shared a mystified expression as they gazed back at Kel.
“So what…you can control gravity, big deal,” Sage scoffed rolling her eyes.
“What?” Kel asked in a tone that said “are you stupid”.
“Are you kidding me?” Chase growled, “That's all you felt, the gravity increasing?”
“Um…yeah,” Mia said slowly, her and Sage shooting them looks as if they were now the stupid ones. “What were we suppose to feel?”
“Gee, I don't know, maybe a searing pain in your flesh as if it were being burned and ripped apart,” Chase replied.
“I thought you said it wouldn't hurt!” Sage yelled in outrage.
“I never said that.” Kel replied arching an eyebrow.
“No, but he did.” Sage stated glaring at Chase.
“No…you asked if I was going to hurt you, and I said no,” Chase explained wearing an innocent expression. “As you can clearly see, Kel is the one that is trying to hurt you, not me. I can't be accountable for my brother's actions.”
“You lying sonofva—” Sage began.
“Enough,” Kel cut in turning to face his brother. “That one doesn't work.”
“Yeah no shit, you looked a little constipated back there,” Chase said smirking at his brother. Kel punched him in the shoulder before stepping aside, indicating that it was his turn.
Chase rubbed his shoulder before turning his attention back to the girls, who were now looking a little nervous after finding out that pain might be involved in this process. Chase was thinking about attempting to lift them up into the air, but he already knew that his telekinesis worked on them because he had used it on Sage back at the school. He then decided to take a different approach after a thought struck him.
Chase held his hand out, causing both girls to visibly flinch. He then curled his fingers inward as if straining to grab something, but nothing happened.
“Humph.” He scoffed turning to Kel. “Try attacking their minds.”
Kel nodded and closed his eyes as Mia and Sage stared nervously at each other.
“Do you hear anything? Like a loud screeching sound or pricing ring?” Chase asked as though he already knew the answer.
Both girls shook their heads as Kel opened his eyes again. “Did you figure something out?” Kel asked Chase.
“Maybe…” he replied thoughtfully. “Sage, come here.”
Sage looked at him for a moment before hesitantly walking forward. He knew she was scared, he could smell it. When she was standing directly in front of him, he waved his hand. Suddenly, a barrier appeared around her, the sheer power from which it was created caused lightening blue sparks to crackle all around her, making her jump.
“What is this?” Sage asked the fear evident in her voice.
“Touch it.” Chase ordered.
“Are you fucking mad?! You touch it!” she shot back childishly.
Chase rolled his eyes at her, trying to stay patient. “Just do it.”
Sage looked at him pleadingly before turning back to the lightening which was crackling around her. “Fine…but after this it's Mia's turn.”
“Hey!” Mia protested.
Sage then slowly reached her hand out to touch the barrier, drawing it back instinctively every time she came close to making contact. “I can't do it!” she whined.
“Kel, throw something at her.” Chase said ignoring her protest.
“Hey, I think that's en—” Mia started to say, but it was too late.
Before the girls could blink, Kel threw a large energy ball towards Sage. Both girls screamed as the ball collided with the barrier, causing smoke to fill the room. Once the smoke cleared, everyone stared in disbelief at Sage, who remained unharmed in the barrier with her eyes clenched shut, but had somehow ended up on the other side of the room.
“How did you get over there?” Kel asked in disbelief.
“I fucking ran, what do you mean how! I don't wanna be in this thing anymore!” she yelled.
“Did the barrier just move with her?” Kel asked Chase, his face twisting in confusion.
“Holy shit…” Chase muttered under his breathe.
“What's the big deal…isn't that what barriers do?” Mia asked.
“Some barriers, yes, but that particular barrier is meant to hold prisoners and restrict their movements,” Kel explained, “she shouldn't be able to move much less run without the lightening scorching her. Furthermore, my energy ball should have hit her but the barrier protected her, which is something it's not supposed to do”.
“So your doing all of this without knowing if it will work or not? You could have killed her!” Mia shouted stepping up to Kel.
“Sage, walk towards me.” Chase said ignoring the two.
“But—”
“The sooner you do as I say, the quicker you'll get out of there,” He cut in before she could protest.
Sage looked at him for a moment before nodding. She slowly got up and took cautious steps towards Chase, the barrier sticking to her the entire time. When she neared him, he held out his hand, indicating for her to take it. She then looked up at him before slowly reaching her hand out towards the blue lightening in front of her. She had been listening when Kel told Mia that the lightening should have hurt her when she touched it, which is why she was being so hesitant. But Chase said he wouldn't hurt her, and he did look like he knew what he was doing.
Sage quickly pushed her hand through the barrier, grabbing onto Chase's hand and sighing in relief when he pulled her out and into his chest.
“I thought you said if she touched the lightening it would burn her?” Mia asked skeptically.
“It was.” Kel replied as his eyes locked worriedly with his brother's. “What are you thinking, Chase?”
“I'm thinking that our powers only work on them as long as we use it without the intent to kill, hurt or manipulate them.” Chase replied evenly.
“But those are all things we can easily do without using our powers,” Kel replied.
“I never said it made sense.” Chase said while glancing down at Sage, who was still holding his hand.
“Without the intent to kill or hurt…” Kel repeated before turning to Mia. Using his mind abilities, he lifted her up into the air so that she was flying towards him, causing Mia to scream since the action caught her off guard. Once she stood in front of him, Kel locked his gaze with hers.
“Tell me what you hear,” he said gazing at her. The others watched in silence as the two continued to gaze at each other. Suddenly, Mia cringed, not in pain but in irritation.
“What is that?” she asked while reaching to cover her ears.
“I'm allowing her to hear the shrill in her mind without the intent of causing pain and now she can hear it. It's soft and merely irritating her, nothing more.” Kel said looking towards Chase.
Nodding in understanding, Chase reached his hand out to touch the side of Sage's neck. “What do you feel?”
“Cold.” Sage said shivering slightly.
Just cold, huh… Her entire body should have instantly been frozen and shattered.” He thought to Kel who nodded in agreement.
This is strange. It's almost as if our own powers won't allow us to hurt them.” Kel shot back.
What I don't understand is why we can't manipulate them with compulsion, but we can enter their dreams?” Chase asked.
“Compulsion takes away their free will, which is something they still have in their dreams. We can include ourselves and manipulate the dream itself, but we can't control what they choose to do or not do while we're there.” Kel confirmed.
There's no need to do anymore tests, we already figured out the limit to their immunity.” Chase said turning back to the girls.
“We're done now. So, you girls hungry?” he said grinning down at them.
Sage and Mia glanced at each other skeptically before turning back to the brothers. “That's it, no more tests?” Sage asked.
“Nope.” Chase replied popping the “p” sound.
“What was the verdict?” Mia asked quirking an eyebrow.
“Don't worry about it.” Kel piped in. “Go wait in the kitchen, we'll be right in.”
“Does this mean we can go home?” Sage asked hopefully.
“No.” both brothers replied at the same time. Sage rolled her eyes before walking in the direction of the kitchen, Mia close behind.
“You know we're gonna have to tell Craven about this, right?” Chase said once the girls were out of ear shot.
“Damn…I was hoping to avoid that.” Kel replied.
“Yeah well tough cookies. Let's just wait a little longer before we drag him into this, you know. Maybe see what else we can learn.” Chase said now walking towards the kitchen.
“It couldn't hurt, I suppose.” Kel agreed falling in step beside his brother.
“You know you guys don't have any food in the house, right?” Sage said from behind the fridge as the two walked into the kitchen.
Kel then snapped his fingers, causing a spread of scrambled eggs, beacon, sausages, pancakes and orange juice to appear on the kitchen table.
“Enjoy,” Kel said as he and Chase began walking towards the back door.
“Where you guys going?” Mia asked chewing on a piece of beacon.
“You got your breakfast, we're going to get ours,” Chase threw over his shoulder.
“But there's plenty of food here already,” Sage said now looking confused.
“We don't eat human food,” Kel replied in a bored tone.
“What do you eat then?” Mia asked.
Both brothers shared a look, a moment of silent communication passing between the two as Kel shook his head at Chase.
“We'll save that conversation for another day,” Chase replied with a bright smile before walking out the door with Kel in tow.
“It's something bad, isn't it?” Sage asked sighing deeply.
“Yup,” Mia replied as the two sat down to eat their breakfast. It was going to be a very long two days…
