Loathing
Demetriov did not cope well with becoming a vampire. With every life that he took the more he loathed it, and the more he hated what he had become. As he hated every death, he also craved the pleasure that came with it, hungered for it, needed it. His helplessness in his need, his enjoyment in taking life, it was too much to handle. He sank into himself, grieving for what he had lost and what he had become, lost in his own misery. He survived only by Avéa's encouragement and the very strong need for blood.
So it was for the next hundred years, sinking deeper and deeper into his world of pain. Avéa suffered as he did. The companionship she had craved missing from their relationship. She nursed him, nurtured him as best she could in the hope that he would rise out of the prison he had built in his mind, but to no avail. Slowly she fell into despair and madness. So they travelled together, not really living, existing, going on as there was nothing else that they could do.
So you see, my quarry had come a long way already. A pitiable pair they made as they wandered their way aimlessly through the years. These were his formative years, creating the groundwork for the coming ages. When I learnt what he had been through in comparison to my experiences my heart wept for him. It should not be this way. I find myself wondering if he really is to blame, this life was forced upon him. But then I realise that while this choice was taken out of his hands, every other has been his to make, and it his choices that led him to where we are today.
There are so many different ways things could have been down the years. If he had changed many of those decisions I would have never found my love and I am therefore in his debt for making those choices. Yet I find myself on this final hunt because I now too loathe him. I loathe him for what he did to her, for what he has done to me. Enough, he did finally wake from his dark state, and it is to this we now turn.
