Chapter 10 “A Second Remnant Puzzle Of Dreams”
“Wha… … What’s going on… … … Where… Am I?” Muttered Ryan in a daze. “This area… It feels so familiar, but why am I engulfed with fear?”Ryan was crouched in an alleyway under a raincoat staring at the ground. The rain was pouring down relentlessly. It was almost freezing and it was causing Ryan to shiver violently. A sudden jolt on his left shoulder scared him for a moment. Looking over he saw a girl with purple hair who had apparently lay her head to rest on his shoulder. She too was shivering from the immense cold, their breaths were completely visible.
“Who… Who are you?” Asked Ryan.
There was no answer. The girl didn’t even turn to acknowledge his words.
“It’s gonna be ok, I don’t think they will find us here.” Came a voice.
“Huh!? I didn’t say that… Yet… It seems like the words came from my mouth… What the hell is going on?!”
Upon further investigation Ryan noticed that he wasn’t even controlling his movements. It seemed as if his body was moving of its own accord.
“It’s so… so… c… cold...” was the returning voice of the young girl beside him.
The voice was desolate and weak, as if her body was giving way to hypothermia.
“We need to get out of the rain, we can’t stay here any longer. Maybe… Maybe you should go back.”
“NO! … No, I don’t want to go back. If I do, who knows when I’ll get to see you again.”
The girl’s hand came down onto his arm and clenched tightly. The strange part was Ryan could feel the pressure as if it was his arm. Not to mention he was suffering from the cold as well.
“I can feel things but I can’t control movements, furthermore I can’t even control where I’m looking. Just what the hell is going on anywise! … It’s … cold…”
The hand that had been clenching onto him was now easing its grasp. As the pressure lifted, the weight on his shoulder increased.
“Hey… … Hey! … Clare! WAKE UP! Clare you can’t fall asleep like this, you will die. NO CLARE!”
Ryan’s body lifted itself up with haste swiping the girl up into his arms with the coat on top of her. It looked both ways then ran out the side of the alleyway into the darkness. As the darkness subsided in front of him a town street came into view. There was no one on the streets, the streetlights spewed glittering light through the raindrops as they fell. The body was panicking, the gaze that Ryan was viewing was drifting from place to place. Vision was becoming blurry, Ryan was freezing. He was no longer under the coat that had been protecting him from the rain earlier. It was now shielding the girl he was carrying.
“WHERE ARE YOU?! … … I KNOW YOU’RE OUT THERE! PLEASE… PLEASE HELP!”
The body fell to its knees on the cement. It was too cold, it’s joints were not cooperating. The legs beneath him would not move, Ryan could feel the notion to move but just couldn’t muster the strength to do it. The rest of the body now came crashing down onto the cement. As it came down it used the last remaining strength to cushion the girl’s impact with the ground.
“It’s so cold, I can’t take it anymore. I don’t even know what’s going on. If this keeps up I will die.”
His head lay on the cement staring off into the darkness down the sidewalk. The eyelids were becoming very heavy and his breathing was slowing down. As his eyes were drifting from open to close he saw feet walking his way. Before his eyes closed he saw what looked like 2 shady people walking his way but his vision was cut-off by a sharp shattering noise.
Ryan instantly sat up in his bed screaming the word, “Clare!”. The room was silent as he sat on his bed. For a moment he was still in a daze about what was going on and his vision was still blurry. Instantly he wrapped the blanket around his body, he was freezing and practically drenched.
“Wh-what the h-hell is g-g-going on arrr-rround here?!” His voice couldn’t manage the sentence without stuttering from being so cold. “Ww-wait… I’m at home… S-so I was dr-dreaming?!”
Ryan’s mind was racing, lots of things just didn’t make sense. If he was dreaming, why is he so cold and drenched? Summer was nearing so the cold he had been feeling just simply wasn’t possible. He was slowly warming up and was now able to think clearly.
“I’m at home. Let’s see… Last night I was… Shopping… Yeah shopping… With… Serenity?”
Serenity was no where to be found. He switched his gaze from left to right and even glanced over the side of the bed.
“Serenity?” he called out.
There was no answer and he started to get a feeling of horror. Had something happened to serenity? He suddenly remembered the sound that had awakened him but he was unable to decipher where it had come from. He sprung out of bed and checked the living room as well as all the windows in the kitchen and dining room but to no avail. He retreated to his bed and sat down scratching his head. While drifting his gaze around, a patch of red engulfed with a white surrounding caught his eye. It was on the floor by his bathroom door.
The feeling of horror intensified greatly. A surge of fear rushed through his body making him twitch as he walked slowly over to the door.
“Serenity…? Serenity, are you there?
His feet were now directly in front of the door which was cracked open slightly. Through the crack was complete darkness. Slowly he pushed aside the door and a perfectly cracked mirror, cracked in every direction from the center with small veins from the larger cracks, came into view. The sink had red fluid flowing in it. His foot sunk into a small puddle of red fluid on the tile floor as he took his first step inside to gaze around the corner. On the floor cringing in pain was Serenity, she was bleeding from the eyes and ears. Her face was pale as if she was freezing.
“Oh my god… OH MY GOD SERENITY! WE GOT TO GET YOU TO A DOCTOR, NOW”
Without a moment’s hesitation Ryan lifted her up into his arms and brought her over to the bed. She was now shaking violently, as if suffering from a seizure. Next Ryan grabbed the phone and instantly called doctor Crespin.
“Hello?”
“DOC, IT’S RYAN, SOMETHING HAPPENED, I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO!”
“Whoa, whoa… Calm down Ryan… What’s wrong?
“Come over quick! I’m scared, something’s wrong with serenity!”
“I’ll be over right away…”
