Myara stepped through the gate just behind Aiden, Dalziel and Sabin following close behind. She protected herself from the dizzying effects of gate travel and came out on the other side into a dazzling room where they were surrounded by white walls and towering columns of stone. Myara definitely felt a sense of familiarity.

Aiden went to her side almost immediately after she'd passed through the gate. “Are you all right? I know that gate travel is sometimes difficult for humans.”

Myara smiled as Dalziel and Sabin joined them. She told Aiden, “Don't worry, I'm pretty good with gate travel.”

Dalziel smiled and told Aiden before he could protest. “It's the truth Aiden, don't worry. More importantly, we should head for the White Tower right? Isn't that where your uncle will be?”

Aiden nodded. “Yeah, he's probably already waiting. It will be fastest if we fly.” He gave Myara a long sideways look as if not sure how to go on.

Before Aiden could go on Sabin volunteered. “I'll carry her, once we get outside.”

Myara frowned and her cheeks flushed. Being carried by Sabin sounded wonderful but at the same time, she didn't really want him to hold her in his arms again. It would only make it more difficult on her heart. She covered up her feelings by jokingly saying, “Having to be carried, how embarrassing.”

Aiden looked apologetic. “Sorry, but… it would be a very long walk.”

Myara nodded. “I understand, let's go.”

They are attacked on their way to see the councilor. Myara/Sabriel remembers that the councilor is working for the demons and is the one responsible for demons making it into the celestial world. Myara/Sabriel fights with the councilor and makes the councilor realize his mistake in trying to get his dead wife back even though he should let go of her. Sabriel fights with the councilor's fake wife and at last minute Sabriel's wings appear and she completely becomes Sabriel. She destroys the demon (masquerading as councilor's dead wife). Says goodbye to Sabin and then disappears.

“They found her.” Dalziel told him.

Sabin couldn't say anything for a moment. He stared. “They found her?” he asked.

Dalziel nodded. “Yeah. She's at home now, with her parents. She's not the same, from what I've heard. She's pretty much lost her memories of Sabriel, and she doesn't remember her time here at the college much either. You should go and see her.”

He knocked on the door, shifting his weight nervously. She opened the door and he didn't know what to say at first.

“Can I help you?” She asked. There was only a vague recognition in her eyes.

He forced a smile. “Do you remember me?” he asked.

She studied him for a moment and then told him apologetically. “Somehow I feel as if I should but… I'm sorry. How did I know you?”

He managed a faint, sad smile. “Uh… We dated a bit.”

She looked a bit embarrassed. “Oh, I see. I'm really sorry. Do you want to come in?”

He studied her closer. Her aura had changed. It seemed there was no trace of celestial power about her any more. She was now completely human and nothing more. He shook his head. “No, that's all right. I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”

She gave him a cheerful smile. All the sorrow from Sabriel's past seemed to have left her. He tried to feel happy for her as she told him. “I'm great. Don't worry at all.” For a moment, just a moment, her expression changed, as if she were remembering something as she looked at his face.

“Are you all right?“ he asked.

She rubbed the back of her neck as she met his eyes. “Ah, sorry. I do that sometimes. It feels like I might remember but then nothing comes out you know.”

“Oh I see. That's too bad.“ He realized he had still been harboring some hopes that she'd remember. But he didn't want to trouble her now that she was freed from Sabriel's past. He should let her live a normal human life. Sabriel, the one he'd truly loved, she was really gone this time, and he had to let her go. This would be his final goodbye, both to Sabriel and to Myara. He stepped forward and clasped her to his chest. Her eyes widened but she leaned against his chest without any complaint, allowing him the comfort of holding her one last time. “Thank you Myara. Thank you,” he told her. He kissed the top of her head. His breath caught and for a moment as he ran his fingers through her hair, he thought even he might cry but he finally he got a hold of himself. “You'll never know how much our time together meant to me. I have to go now but… I'll always be watching out for you. Goodbye Myara.” He released her and she looked up at him.

It seemed she couldn't understand his sadness. “I don't understand. If you cared for me, couldn't we start over?”

He managed a sad smile. “No, I think this is the end. This time it's really the end. It's because I care for you, that I don't think we should be together. Goodbye.” He turned and walked away. It was finally time to let them both go, but he would always, always be watching over Myara, just as Sabriel had always been watching over him.

She watched him turn away. Even though she couldn't remember anything about him, but… she thought his face looked familiar, maybe from her drawings or something. That wasn't what was bothering her though. Watching him walk away she felt… sad. He also seemed to feel sad about leaving her. So why? She didn't understand it but for some reason… she didn't want to see him leave like this. She took a step forward and then, as his hands reached the gate she called out his name.

Author's notes - Yeah, I need to fill in the summarized section, sorry about that. It might be hard to understand. This chapter is really a rough draft of the final chapter. I know there are a few people who really wanted to read the ending of this story. I didn't want to make you wait on me any more. I'll repost it once I fill in the blanks. I may choose to continue this story later on in another "arch" I guess you could say. It depends on my mood. If so though, I hope I can make the next story less gloomy and stuff. Thanks for reading.
