Chapter 1
A ship pulled into a harbor. The waves of the sea washed up against it making the wood cold and wet. Dawn had just begun, and the sun was beginning to rise up from behind the mountains that seemed to border the area. A young, demon-woman emerged from the boat and walked down the small lath that led to the land. Her long, light-brown hair flowed behind her and she closed her eyes as the wind blew through it. She turned when she was on the ground and waited for her follower to emerge. A young-looking man, who was also a demon, appeared out of the ship and started to walk forward. He carried a bow at his side, along with a holster filled with arrows. He was leading a horse out as well which was carrying many supplies.
“Come now, Haru. Let us hurry. I am anxious to catch sight of out domicile.”
Haru nodded with a smile and quickened his pace towards the ground. When he was close enough the young woman mounted the horse. With that she and Haru started walking along a path that would surely lead them to the castle.
They arrived at dusk. The gates opened for her and her follower. A village was spread across the terrain from the gate and all the way towards the castle. Many people stopped in the middle of what they were doing just to stop and bow.
“Welcome Lady Miya,” one of them said.
She nodded her head in approval and continued down the road. This even transpired many times and Miya got quite tired by the time she reached the Castle. Once inside she went to the room that would now be hers. She examined everything within the vicinity. Yes, it was everything she imagined it would be. There was a large canopy bed in the center with translucent white drapes that swathed the carved wooden frame. The dressers were also carved with the same wood but had jewels imbedded into the drawer handles. She could see her reflection in the spotless, marble floor. Two large windows with decorative patterned curtains that enshrouded them were to the right of her bed. Royalty was a sweet thing.
She deposited herself among the many blankets and pillows, taking in the new aroma of her room. She came to this location to escape the life that was unfortunately bestowed upon her. Her “fiancé” wasn't the kind of man she cared for. He was appallingly rude and ordered her around as if she was one of the maids. Her father tried to protest on her leaving and said she was lucky to have found such a prosperous man. Some way or another, and with Haru's help, she packed up her things and left without a word. Miya decided that it would be better to be single than to be paired up with a conceited-psycho-money-hungry-deluded-cruel-heartless-Do-whatever-I-tell-yo u-to-do-man.
Shaking the thoughts of him out of her head, she suddenly felt the fatigue catching up with her from the long journey. Her eyes slowly closed as sleep descended upon her.

Morning seemed to rise fast and she didn't desire to wake up. Haru unfortunately, being the alarm clock that he was, called to her from behind the door. She was too sleepy to know what it was, but she figured it had something to do with breakfast and said emotionlessly that she would be down in a few minutes, which really meant and hour.
She slowly got out of bed, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. As she was trying to move, one of her sheets got tangled with her foot. Half way on the bed and half way off she struggled to release the sheet from her foot with all her might. Finally the sheet lost its death grip and she was congratulated with a huge thump on the cold, hard, marble floor.
“Haru! I'll be down in ONE minute!”

After breakfast, Miya decided to take a walk. Of course she was accompanied by Haru. The land was beautiful and the grass was lush and soft to walk on. The trees were abundant, but even in the most crowded part of the forest, the sun could still be seen providing the plants below with warm rays of sunlight.
In the foliage, Miya noticed some sort of sparkle. She dismounted her horse and went up to the shrubbery.
“What is it m' lady?” Haru inquired.
“I'm not quite sure…” she replied.
Her hand rustled in the leaves until she felt something among her fingers. She took it out and examined it. It was a pouch made of a fine fabric with a strange design that resembled a wing. It was smooth and silky like felt. Miya opened it, revealing countless quantities of gold. Her eyes widened and she poured out a portion of it onto her hand, then all of it. She smiled brightly and displayed them to Haru, who also showed much surprise.
“What a find!” she exclaimed, “Who'd have though-,”
Suddenly she realized that although she had emptied all the contents in the small bag, it somehow was the same mass. She looked inside and her eyes widened further if that was possible. The pouch was still full of gold.
“What? What is it Lady Miya?” Haru asked. Miya could only shake her head as she closed the pouch. She turned to Haru and grinned.
Miya responded happily, “Nothing, we just have much luck, that is all.”
She climbed onto her horse and began to hum as she rode which, to Haru, was quite creepy. She continued through the forest with a smile. Unfortunately it didn't last long. Miya stopped, noticing something beyond in the underbrush. She looked over to Haru who was becoming aware of it also. Miya walked a bit closer ignoring the `be careful' and `don't go ahead alone' that was being said to her. When she got near enough to observe the figure, she realized that it was and elderly man. He seemed to be looking for something.
“Do you need something sir?” Miya asked politely.
The old man turned around. His hair was gray and white mixed together which was ratted and dirty from sweat and mud. He wore the clothes of a peasant; brown and grimy from most likely field work. Despite his foulness, Miya managed to smirk. He bowed to her and with and aged, low voice said,
“Why yes, you highness, I lost a small pouch but a moment ago and I cannot seem to find it.” He sounded desperate. “I must've dropped it earlier, oh dear me…”
Miya couldn't believe this was the owner of such a magnificent item. It was and endless supply of money. How could he, this filthy old man, be the owner of it? It was hardly conceivable.
“What did it look like?” She questioned.
“Oh, I don't wish to trouble you-,”
“It is no trouble, what did the pouches appearance consist of?”
The old man thanked her by bowing again and said, “There really wasn't much to the small bag… It was of maroon coloring and had a design of a wing.”
Miya sighed and started rummaging through her robes. `What a loss' she thought, `but, that is the exact description of it… why am I such a nice person…?' She revealed the pouch to him.
“Would this be it?” she asked, trying to sound enthusiastic.
Just then the old man smiled softly. “Yes… that it is.” His voice was miraculously younger and it almost frightened her. If that wasn't enough he started emanating a strange, yet soft, white glow. Beautiful shimmering sparkles began to encircle him. Miya staggered backwards and was almost blinded by the bright light that seemed to explode from him. She thought she heard Haru's voice calling to her, but she couldn't tell. She opened her eyes and what stood before her was no longer and old peasant. A tall young man stood there. He was very attractive, beautiful even. He had perfect, almost porcelain skin, with long black hair that went past his shoulders. Elongated white robes extended down to the ground and looked even silkier then the pouch. But the thing that really made Miya astonished, were the white feathers that made up the wings connected to his back. The Angel smiled and Miya could feel her self turning red.
“Hm… Not all demons are bad I suppose…” It said gently.
With that he lifted from the earth, but didn't pass the trees before he was enveloped with light and disappeared. Miya could only look in awe from the ground. (Somehow between the time he started transforming and flying off, Miya had fallen to the ground in shock) Haru ran to her side and helped her up.
“Are you alright Lady Miya?” he asked anxiously.
“Uh… yes, yes I'm fine… just fine,” she replied, still trying to soak everything in. Her eyes were still focused on the air. The image replayed in her min as she smiled.
`How nice it must be… to fly…'
Miya, after a few moments, regained her equanimity and walked over to the pouch. The Angel had left it. She picked it up and poured the gold into her hand then looked inside the bag. It was empty. The pouch was now just an ordinary bag. She smiled and inwardly thanked it for the gift nonetheless. She placed it back in her robes.
“uh… m' lady, do you think it's alright to keep an angelic item? It is not of our race,” Haru asked hesitantly.
“Fear not, It's not as if I am going to parade it in front of the entire citadel,” Miya answered. She then mounted her horse and began to travel back home.
There were three main races of beings; Humans, Demons, and Angels. Demons and Humans are familiar with each other and can live sometimes in the same vicinity, although they don't always trust one another. Most demons think of humans as contemptible or obtuse and humans think of demons as abominable or murderous. Then you have the Angels. Humans thought highly of them. Angels to them were phenomenal beings that had the power to heal and destroy. Demons and Angels however were not as benevolently attached to one another. Demons either despised or disregarded the presence of Angels. Still, one on one, usually the Angels dominated over the Demons. (Which is why the demons hate the angels so much)
Miya's opinion on Angels was indifferent. She didn't exactly abhor them, but she didn't particularly care for them either. Although, if all of them were as handsome as the one she just met, she could learn to like them.
She smiled at the thought but didn't think that was enough to start being partial to them.

“Haru?” Miya started. It had been a week now since she first arrived at her castle. She and Haru were eating breakfast.
“Yes Lady Miya?” He questioned.
“I am going on a journey.”
He put down his fork, giving her his full attention. “For what purpose?”
“Well, I presume I am going to be living here for a while, so I've decided I should at least get to know some of the surrounding villages. “She took a bite of her rice before going on, “Where would be the nearest town?” (yes… to her, going to the next town is a “journey” )
Haru thought for a moment, Miya didn't mind as she took more bites of her rice.
“I believe a three days walk, plus a short voyage on sea.” He finally rice.
Miya wiped her mouth with a cloth, “would you be willing to accompany me?”
“Of course m' lady,” he answered with a smile. “When will we be departing?”
Miya thought for a moment with her chin resting on her hands. “Well… I suppose we will need time to get supplies ready…” she tapped herself with a finger. “Two days…?”
Haru shifted his weight, “Two?” He seemed uneasy. “Um, my apologies for being opinionative but, that's not a whole lot of time.” He got up when Miya handed him her plate and cleared off the table.
“Don't be silly,” she responded, “We don't have to bring many supplies just enough to make it to the next town. We can purchase more there to meet our needs.”
“But what about-,”
“And there's no need for soldiers, I have you, and it's not as if I am unable to defend for myself.”
With that Miya felt as if there was no need for another comment and got out of her seat. It was her decision and Haru would just have to accept it. Once she made a choice, there was no stopping her. Miya headed to her room and started to get ready. She packed a bag full of her clothes, most of them were dresses or small skirts, and small “necessities” such as combs, hair ornaments and other small things that were “important”. She had more of a months worth supply then just for a week or so. Her dictum was that it was always sensible to have too much than too little.
On the day of the voyage, many people were gathered to wave her off. Oh yes… she was so loved. (*cough*) Haru had her horse waiting for her at the gates along with a horse of his own, connected to a wagon. This was of course for carrying the supplies and the countless “necessities” of her own. Haru helped her on her horse. Miya gave him nod and a smile. He quickly got on his horse and began to follow her lead out of the castle.
They exited the castle premises and started to head for the dock. Haru believed it was a day's ride from here. Miya was actually excited about this journey. As long as she could bathe in the next town of course. A woman still has her needs and hygiene was one of them. Miya looked at the path ahead. Past the trees and the beautiful landscape, she could see small blotches that made up mountains. They seemed so far away. Still her spirits were high as this would be her first journey. How bad could it be?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Haru—I'm hungry—,”
“There's food in the rucksack next to you m' lady.”
“Haru—I'm thirsty--,”
“Water is in the same place m' lady,”
“Haru—my butt aches--,”
Haru stopped and sighed, “Would you like to take a break?”
“Well my goodness Haru, I didn't know you were so frail… but if you really want to rest I believe we can spare some time,” Miya stopped and dismounted her horse and took out the food and water in her pack and sat on the soft grassland.
“Lady Miya, we've only been traveling for about two hours now.” Haru sighed in aggravation.
“I know Haru, why must you complain so much?” she asked munching on some bread. Haru gave her a look that said `I should be asking you that'. Miya ignored it and continued eating. Miya's thought went back to that day they met the angel. A flashback of his smile flickered through her mind and she felt herself blush. Then she wondered…
It… was a guy, wasn't it?... He sounded masculine… but how could a guy be that beautiful? Haru soon stirred her out of her thoughts,
“-ya, Lady Miya!” he said waving a hand in her face, “Are you with us among the living?” he grinned playfully. She gave him a wry smile and leaned back using her arms as support.
“I was just reminiscing about that angel man we saw in the forest.”
Haru shifted his weight slightly looking as if he was somewhat uncomfortable with the subject. His eyebrows furrowed and his eyes narrowed casting his head downward. He seemed to be in deep though, unless of course that grass was just extremely interesting. Miya decided to go with the former. “What? Is it wrong for a demon to think about angels?” He looked up at her with the same concentration, making the answer and obvious “yes”. She sighed and looked up. “Seriously Haru I wouldn't worry, I don't care for angels… I'm just curious of what its intentions were; what it was doing on my land…” her voiced trailed off as she began to go into her own little world again.
“Shall we go?” Haru interrupted her thoughts again, slightly annoying her.
“Yes, of course,” she stood and mounted her horse with Haru's help. He got on his horse as well and they continued their travel to Kosetsu Mura, the next town.
