The events of the previous night were kept from Karaka's father, Karaka had hidden away the blood stained shirt away where she was certain it would not be found by anyone but her. Butterflies swarmed in Karaka's stomach that morning as she thought about her conversastion with Beth the previous night. She finished her breakfast quickly and rushed out to school. It was a bitter day out, with sharp cold winds sailing by, while dark clouds shadowed everything and rain was certain to follow. This did nothing for Karaka's mood but reflect the turmoil, a reflection she didn't care to see.

C'mon Beth, counting today Graduation is just two days away, we can't go out like this. No, I won't let us go out like this! We have to get this settled today, as soon as I find you!

She stopped just outside the crowd of students waiting for the doors to open to the school. She searched as thoughroughly with her eyes, quickly becoming frustrated by the lack of result for her efforts. Damn it, most of the students are taller then her, it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

She instead decided to go through the crowds herself, walking around the students like they were fixtures, the students not even notcing her, lost in their own excitement. The winds began to pick up, some of the litter left on the ground blowing towards them. Karaka gave a sigh of defeat as the bell rang, students flooding in through the doors like a swarm of killer bees. Karaka reluctantly followed suit. Hopefully I'll see her in first period.

Karaka didn't need to go to her locker yet, her first period class being Knitting class, her least favorite class of all. She passed the gym on the way, wishing she could be part of gym class instead. The only physical education she would get were with threads and needles. She entered the classroom with a bitter expression, there were five rows of desks, two desks pushed together occupying each row. Karaka took her usual seating, one of the first to arrive that day. She waited anxiously for a few minutes for Beth to come in. However as the clock ticked away, Beth's presence in school became of serious doubt to Karaka. Then the voice she hated most came over the speaker. "Good morning students, a reminder everyone should be in their first period class by now. Now everyone, please stand and pledge loyalty to the banner of your region"

Karaka was the sole person to remain sitting. Is this region is so great, why do they MAKE you stand for it? Not that it matters, I'm not pledging allegiance to a region that just pushes me into stupid knitting classes for no good reason.

"Teachers, please report anyone who did not stand. Thank you and begin your classes"

Another five minutes onto my detention, which I'll get by the end of the day. You know, they do this every day but it never changes, you'd think they would learn by now.

Karaka pretended to knit, keeping her eyes at the door for a vain hope Beth would walk in. Her needle just kept stabbing through air while she held the fabric in her other hand. Beads of sweat accumilated on Karaka's forehead, falling gracefully and unoticed onto her desk. The clock kept ticking, Karaka becoming more frustrated by the minute.

Tick tick tick.

Karaka stared at the cloth in her other hand, then used it to wipe the sweat off her forehead. The door opened, Karaka's head shooting up, her eyes aiming point blank for the door. Beth walked in, Karaka feeling a sensation of total relief flow through her body like a positive chakra flow.

"Sorry I'm late. I checked with the medic" said Beth to the teacher. The teacher seemed satisfied with Beth's explanation, Betth sitting down near Beth, Karaka wasting no time. "Beth, I-

"No, stop Karaka. You don't need to apoligize. I just needed time to think everything over" began Beth near breathlessly. Taking a deep sigh, she continued. "I always envied you, you're slightly taller then average. Most girls are so much bigger and stronger then I am, so to learn that you have powers in addition, but it dosen't matter anymore" whispered Beth. Karaka's eyes wandered around, no one else seemed to notice.

"I still wish you wouldn't go out there though. You, could be killed, or raped-

"I know Beth, but it's a risk I'm willing to take" Karaka whispered back. Karaka looked around. "Now excuse me" said Karaka getting up and walking out. Beth shook her head. I should've seen this coming. Karaka, sometimes I have to wonder if it's really worth putting yourself through all this.

The teacher was busy at his desk, not seeing Karaka walk out. Karaka picked up her pace, near storming over to the gym doors. There were small windows within the doors so she could see what was happening. This was the backdoor, to the corner where she saw them playing kickball. This is too perfect a chance!

The ball was rolled over towards the next kicker, the door pushed open. Karaka ran at full speed, no one even seeing her until she was directly in front of the ball, kicking it dead in the center with the forefront of her foot. The ball soared through the air, just inches away from touching the ceiling, then fell fast on the floor directly across from Karaka.

"I give that a ten! See ya guys, it's been fun!" said Karaka. She ran out, leaving a bewildered class, including it's teacher. Karaka ran out with a big smile in the hall way, turning and coming to an immediate hault, almost skidding towards the person. Her smile vanished, seeing the Principal stand there menacingly, a boy with a black eye and bleeding from the mouth staggering away.

"Hey there" said Karaka with mock friendliness.

"I gave you a warning detention was going to be more severe. Come to the detention room after school, and I promise the worst detention you've ever had in your life" he threatened. Karaka grew a big smile on her face, which repulsed the Principal.

"I can't believe you" said Beth. Her and Karaka sat at the girl's side of the cafeteria, the left hand side. The tables were small and circular, at most good for groups of five, perferably four, with black metal chairs that were so small, upon first looks they appeared as though they would break from anything heavier then a book. Actually it could hold quite the amount of weight.

"Let him bring on his harsh detention, I won't back down! Beth, there's going to be change, I'm going to show people what I can do little by little. I won't be broken down by him. in fact, I'll break him down" said Karaka.

"Break him down, how? Karaka, you're eighteen, he's like fourty something, you can't outsmart him, much less break him down. Also, you're a girl, we're not even smart enough to take boy's education" said Beth solemnly.

"That's why I have to prove everyone wrong" said Karaka. Beth lowered her head and said nothing for a long, silent moment.

"I'm sorry Karaka, but, that's the way, it's been" said Beth.

"Like I said, that's why I have to prove everyone wrong. That's why I'm going through with this detention tonight" said Karaka.
