Chapter 5
She sped through the dense forest, looking for the intruders. As she got closer, she noticed something familiar about one of the scents.“K-Kura?” How? You’re still alive?”
A hoot of an owl snapped the girl out of her daze. She shook her head.
‘No, no, no!’
She stopped when she saw two figures. One laying on the ground and one propped up on a tree. The girls’ silver eyes widened in surprise.
“It is true…” she murmured. She was so shocked that she accidentally stepped on a twig and broke it with a sharp ‘crack’. The girl winced as Kura stirred, but relaxed as Kura didn’t move any more.
The girl sighed. “Whew. That was way too–AGH!”
A Flare came from Kura’s body and struck the girl. She screamed in pain as the Flare continued to burn her. Darkness crept into the edge of her vision, but before unconsciousness took her, she saw a pair of dark crimson eyes.
Kira was jolted out of her dreams by a scream. A human scream. Kira sat up quickly and looked around wildly.
“Hey, Kura, what was that--?” Kira stopped in mid-sentence when she saw Kura standing up with her palm outstretched, and a girl laying on her side, red hair covering her eyes.
“Why don’t you finish her off?” Kira asked, now fully awake. “Uh…Kura?”
Kura lowered her hands. The soft breeze rustled the leaves of the trees, shattering the silence.
“Hhh. I don’t believe it.” Kura said, still dumbstruck at the sight of the girl. “Chikita?” she murmured. Kura bent down and shook the girl by her shoulder. The teen groaned and her eyes opened to reveal startling silver eyes. The girl looked around, confused for a second but sat up and looked at Kura.
“It is you!” Kura and the girl said in unison, each pointing at the other.
It was here where Kira made herself known.
“Kura!” Kura regained her composure and looked at her Master. “What the hell is going on here?!”
“That’s also a question that I want answered.” The girl stated. She turned her glance to Kura. “Should I introduce myself, Kura?” Kura shrugged and nodded. “Ok then. Well, I’m Chikita Yuki and I’m the guardian of Sintia’s Hell.” Kira gasped. Chikita smirked. “No one escapes my arrows. I am also what people call a Demon Archer; I’m also a fairly decent swordsman. But not as good as Kura.”
Chikita smirked at the Fire Demon. Kura blushed. “Oh come on, Chikita, I’m not that good… Never mind.”
Chikita and Kira laughed.
“Well, Chikita,” Kura said, sitting back down against a tree, “What about you? I think you should tell Kira here, your past.”
“Hey! You still haven’t told me the rest of your past!” Kira exclaimed. An owl hooted in the distance.
“Ugh. Fine. Seeing as we are all awake…” she shot a glance at Chikita, who smiled. “I guess I’ll have to tell you the rest.”
“Then I’ll take over. Some of my past intervenes with Kura’s.”
Kira nodded. “Oh! I almost forgot!” Kira stuck her hand out to Chikita. “I’m Kira Yatikana.”
“Nice to meet you, Kira.”
“Likewise.”
“May I go on?” Kura asked with impatience. The other two nodded. “Thank you. Now---“

When Kura woke up, she yawned, her fangs showing.
‘Ahh. What a refreshing sleep!’ She sat up and got out of the bed. She walked over to the window, rubbing her eyes to shake off the remnants of sleep.
Sintia was waking up. Birds flew past the window and into the distance. A thought struck Kura and she walked over to the stand beside the bed. Smiling, she turned the T.V. on and laughed when she heard the report.
‘Last night at 11:00, a thief by the name of Kura, stole the Maiden’s Tear. The Maiden’s Tear was just donated four months ago by our neighboring country to the northeast, Atsukia. Kura effortlessly stole the rare pendant and escaped somewhere into Sintia. Hm?’
Someone moved next to the reporter and Kura gasped when she saw the police chief. He whispered something into the reporters ear and shock reflected in her face.
‘Well, police chief Rico Sakota has found out where the Fire Demon is currently hiding. Mr. Sakota, would you please tell us?’
Rico closed his eyes and smiled. ‘She is currently residing in the abandoned building.’
The reporter gasped. ‘I think we should get some of the officers to look into this. Now for some other news, the body of a young man was found on the outskirts of Sintia’s Hell. It seems that he was killed with an arrow in the heart. The source is unknown and the cause is being looked into.’
‘I will gather some of my most elite officers and storm the building.’
‘Now, on to some further ne–“
Kura shut off the T.V. and plopped down on the bed.
‘Dammit!’ she yelled. ‘How the hell did they find out where I was living?! Unless–no way! I felt something last night and I’m guessing it was a Demon.’ She slapped her forehead. ‘Well…guess I’d better head out.’ Kura sighed. ‘I really didn’t think I’d be caught so soon.’
Kura rose from the bed and stretched. She went over to a dresser and opened a drawer. She reached inside and pulled out the Maiden’s Tear.
‘I will not let them have this!’ Kura stated defiantly. Walking back to her bed, she strapped her katana to her waist and put the pendant into the pouch on her right leg. Sitting down on the bed, she waited for the officers to come. She was also planning an escape rout.
The sound of cars snapped Kura out of her stupor. She smiled, for she had a plan. The thief stood up and looked out the window.
“One…two…three…six cars. Not a problem.” She thought, smirking.
The car doors slammed shut and Kura slowly undid the latch and hoisted the frame up. She backed off a little. ‘Almost there.’ Kura whispered and got next to the window again. She prepared to jump out the window and make a break for Sintia’s Hell. She heard rushing footsteps coming up the stairs.
‘Sh! Shhh!’ Kura could clearly hear the officers with her dog-ears.
“Three. Two… ONE!!” ‘Huh!’ Kura perched up on the windowsill and jumped down onto one of the police cars. The alarm in the car went off and Kura inwardly winced at the loud and sudden sound.
“Crap! Did not expect that!” Kura thought.
She jumped off the car and took off down the street, going for the gate leading out of Sintia. She drew her katana and stopped, turning around slowly. She found herself face to face with a Shadow Demon.
‘Gotcha!’ it hissed. Kura growled.
She swung her katana towards the Demon, but it dodged and tried to hit Kura with a Shadow Cover. Kura leaped out of the way just in time and she checked her foes level. It was around a level five.
“Same level as me.” Kura swore and quickly thought up a new plan.
She took off towards the center of town and swirled around to face her foe. The Shadow Demon smirked, showing it’s yellow teeth. Kura was repulsed. Kura growled, white fangs gleaming.
‘Gotcha!’
‘Oh, shut the hell up!’ Kura yelled. ‘I’m not done yet.’
‘Really? Prove it!’
‘Gladly.’ Kura spoke something in an unknown language and fire surrounded her katana. ‘Hah!’ Kura yelled and charged towards the opposing Demon. It jumped away just in time and clawed at Kura. Kura growled as the sharp claws raked across her left arm. Kura backed up a little and spoke again in the foreign language. A red aura surrounded Kura and she closed her dark crimson eyes. She opened her eyes and shot a death glare at the Shadow Demon.
‘I’ll kill you!’ she snarled.
“I-I believe it!” the Demon fearfully thought.
‘Hah!’ Kura thrust her hands forward and fire erupted from her palms. A jet of fire came from her hands and one struck the Shadow Demon, throwing it back and slamming it into a metal pole. The other jet hit a building, setting it ablaze.
‘Ha!’ Kura laughed and walked over to the fallen Demon. ‘I told you, you can’t beat me!’ Kura snarled. ‘Who sent you?!’ Kura demanded, grabbing the weakened Demon by its neck.
It coughed and managed, ‘Mr. Sa-Sakota.’
Kura’s eyes flashed. ‘Sakota?!’ Kura snapped the Demons neck in her rage. ‘Damn you, Sakota. When I get my hands on him… He’ll wish he’d never even heard of me!’
She stood up quickly, remembering what was going on. She looked at the dead Demon and ran back to the gate. She jumped the gate and took off into the forest. Kura leaned against a tree, panting.
‘Unh. Wow. That took more out of me than I thought it would.’
Kura blinked slowly, sleep wanting to take her. Kura sat down, her back against the rough bark of the oak tree. Her dark crimson eyes shut.

“So, is that it?” Kira asked.
“Well, for my part. Now it’s Chikita’s turn.” She looked at the archer, who sighed.
“Oh…very well.”
