Vision blurry, tears frozen on her cheeks; all she could do was watch. She stifled a sob, clenching her hands at her sides. She pressed her face against the cold glass of the sliding door, watching through tear-filled eyes. She saw him leaving.

Only hours before had he said he loved her. Only hours before had he laid thousands of kisses upon her cheek. Only hours before had he held her close to him, had he whispered in her ear. Only hours before had he promised to never leave her.

Now, he was breaking his promise.

She brought her fist up and slammed it against the glass. A small smile formed on her lips as the spider web began to take shape. She took her flesh to the glass a second time, grimacing slightly as the shards sunk into her skin. Blood running down her hand, she wanted to make a bigger scene. She let her feet move from under her, body falling forward through the door.

He turned around upon hearing the crash. Her body lay only a few feet away, bloody and cold. He watched her chest rising and falling; saw the sick, twisted smile on her face. She met his gaze, her eyes filled with wonder. She lifted herself up slowly, standing before him.

Blood falling with tears, she continued to smile. Her lips parted and she found her voice.

“I thought I needed you, just like you said you needed me. I thought I loved you, but then again, I thought you loved me too. I guess everyone was right when they called me crazy. I was crazy to think that someone like you could love someone like me.”

Her body shook, her knees buckled, her face became fast friends with the concrete. He rushed to her side and pulled out his phone.

He dialed the number he'd been forced to program into his phone. The number he'd hoped he would never have to use.

“Dr. Rieker? It's Zach. Carly's… friend. She had an episode. She's hurt bad this time, real bad.”

“The ambulance is already on its way, Zach. Can you tell me what happened just before Carly had her episode?”

Swallowing the lump in his throat, he answered.

“I… I'd just broken up with her.”
