Author's Note: I can't remember the last time I touched this story...but I've been meaning to do this for a long...long time. I needed to revive my “baby” and edit all the typos and grammar. I never did get to add what I had originally planned...and I may end up writing new adventures for the characters. We'll have to see where it goes from here. I hope to have you all stick around. And welcome, to the new Bound Together.

Prologue Birth of Disease
“Your name will be Tai-Shi. You are my last miracle. I wish that I could stay with you longer to care for you, but my strength fades me now...” A soft voice soothed the new born child she held in her arms weakly.
“Mother?” The door to the room opened and a small boy peeked in. A direct resemblance of the woman in the bed.
“Tai-Li...please come in.” She smiled weakly and rested her head on the large pillow behind her.
The young brunette ran into the room and jumped onto the bed before he was told not to. The child in the woman's arms began to cry softly, startled from the sudden movement.
“Tai-Li...you must not jump like that when someone is holding a child...” She said with a smile. “Kathleen, will you please take Tai-Shi and hold him...I am afraid my strength no longer allows me to do so for myself...”
“Are you alright Mother?” The boy asked as he crawled up to the woman and laid his head on her shoulder. He peered over at the small boy. “She looks gross...”
The woman chuckled and leaned over and lightly kissed the boy's forehead. “That is because he needs a bath. Tai-Li...I want you to meet your little brother, Tai-Shi.” She handed the child over to the woman who sat on the bed next to Tai-Li, her eyes starting to well up.
“Why are you crying?” Tai-Li asked as he looked up at the woman holding his younger brother. “Are you sad that Tai-Shi is a boy?”
The woman shook her head and began to open her mouth. She glanced over towards there mother and quickly shut it. “I am sorry, I am just happy for the young Master's health. I'll clean him up, just stay with your mother for a little bit.” She quickly rose to her feat, soothing the crying child in her arms and took it over to a table where a basin of warm water say and began to rinse the child.
Tai-Li looked back at his mother, who's eyes were also teary, but her smile still seemed to glow with a warmth that no other could match. “Mother, don't cry...I still love you.” Tai-Li said as he wrapped his arms around her.
“Tai-Li...you must listen to me...” She said weakly, her voice slowly starting to trail off. “Never cry in front of Tai-Shi...he will need you to be strong for him...because no one else will...”
“What about father? He is strong mother.” Tai-Li chuckled at his mother's strange request.
“Tai-Li...your father...you wont understand this now...but you will when you get older.” She paused, her voice becoming softer with each word. “Please protect Tai-Shi...your father is ill...and he will not know of what he is doing.”
“I don't understand mother? Father is well? He is not ill.” Tai-Li stared at his mother, his face a little distraught.
“Tai-Li...just promise me that you will stay strong...and that you will protect Tai-Shi.” She pleaded, tears slowly sliding down her face.
“I...I will mother...please don't cry.” Tai-Li begged as he wrapped his arms around his mother and tried to console her.
“Thank you...” She said softly and motioned for the other woman over. “Will you show Tai-Li how to feed Tai-Shi?”
The woman nodded, her eyes and cheeks pink as she took Tai-Li's hand and led him away from the bed. “Your mother needs her rest...say your goodnight.”
Tai-Li looked back at his mother, kissed her cheek and smiled. “Goodnight mother, I love you.” He said cheerfully and hopped off the bed and over towards the chair where the woman was to hold and feed Tai-Shi.
“Goodnight...my angels.” She whispered softly and laid her hand on the bed beside her peacefully.

An elegant room, lit by torches of fire hung from the violet walls. Elaborate plants potted in decorated golden pots littered the floor around the room. Glamours paintings of people from ages past hung on the walls accounting for each generations. Recently, a new painting was hung. Candles were the only source of light that lit the room which gave the residence a more homely feel. A fire crackled and popped in the fire place, providing heat on the cool spring night. On the window sill near the bed was a vase full of freshly picked flower and buds, a gift by chance.
A woman dressed in old worn out clothing held a damp cloth in her hand as she cleaned the large frame in the bedroom. The picture before her resembled the man, eagerly pacing behind her in that very room. An exact copy, the man and the painting were.
The man, in his mid thirties, paced back and forth. He would glance up at the door and quickly look away and continue his path upon the floor. Behind him was a luxurious bed which seemed to be made for a king, if he were. He brushed the pale blond hair out of his eyes, and brushed back the grey hairs that mingled with them. His age was beginning to show, and time was running short. A loud click was heard, and the man's blue eyes darted towards the door. A small girl, dressed fairly nicer than the first slowly entered the room.
“Master…” The servant girl meekly called. Master was the name given to the man that stood before her. She was merely just a servant at his estate, and a caregiver,
“Is she here? Has my daughter been born?” The master eagerly asked as he clasped his hands together. His excitement almost could not be held in as his eyes teared up.
The servant looked up at him reluctantly, a pain in her voice. “No sir, your daughter was not born.” She paused briefly, “A son was born.”
“Fine,” The man grit his teeth but dismissed the thought quickly. “Tell me how my wife is, and tell me how soon we can start again. I must have a daughter born.” He waved his servant off but she did not budge.
“Sir…the Lady has passed.” Her voice shaking with what now seemed to be fear. “I'm sorry Master, but all chances for a Kay daughter...” She began, but was immediately cut off.
“How did this happen! You were with her!” He yelled turning around, his face red with rage. His fists were balled and shaking so violently.
“The strain” The woman stammered, “The strain of the birth was too much for the fair Lady, Master.” She answered quietly. He hurried passed the girl and slammed the door open in a flash. “Master!” The girl called out, but it was futile. “Men are not allowed in the birthing room!”
The man slammed the door open with such force a glass on a nearby table jarred and crashed to the floor. The frighten cries of the newborn son rang out through the room. A young boy, with brown hair, about the age of four stood at the baby's side. He cowered behind the woman who held the small babe in her arms and held onto the child instinctively when the threatening sound was made. The young boy with emerald eyes glanced up at the man, having known this look before.
The man glanced over at the bed where his wife laid silent. She looked almost as if she were sleeping peacefully. He drew closer to her and sat on the side of the bed and gingerly took her cool hand. He gritted his teeth again and turned the child that was screaming since he had burst into the room.
“Father, you scared Tai-Shi! You could have wakened mother too!” The young child yelled towards the man on his bed. The boy could not be any older then four, and he had yet to realize that his mother laid dead on the bed before him.
“Tai-Li!” The man said with heavy breaths. The boy looked up at his father's expression, and couldn't help but flinch. This expression he had never seen before on his father's face. It was a crooked smile, yet somehow twisted with anger. He didn't know how to react to it. “That boy...he killed her!”
“Who?” Tai-Li stared at his fathered with a confused face.
“That! That abomination!” He yelled as he pointed his shaking hand at the child.
“Tai-Shi isn't dead?” Tai-Li looked back and forth between his father and his little brother. “I don't understand?”
“That...that thingkilled her...my...my Siren!” He yelled, his face growing a shade between red and purple.
Tai-Li stared at his father...he knew the name of his mother and he glanced over to the bed. “But...she is only sleeping...she told me goodnight!”
“Step away that that monster! Throw it out! It is trash!” The man yelled as he slowly walked towards the woman holding the boy.
“No!” Tai-Li yelled. “That's my little brother!” Tai-Li cried as he stepped between his father and his brother.
His father stopped and stared down at his eldest son and then to the screaming child being held by the nurse that was in charge of taking care of his wife. He quickly turned on his heal and left the room, the door swinging on it's hinges as it was slammed again.
Tai-Li ran over to the bed where his mother laid motionless.
“Mother...wake up! Something is wrong with father!” He begged as he shook his mother's lifeless arm. “Mother!” He frantically shook her and stopped when he heard dripping noise. He fell to his knees and looked under the bed. He reached out and felt warm thick liquid and brought it back towards the light. He shook his hand and another woman hurried over to Tai-Li and washed it off. He stared at his hand again and at the now pooling puddle under his mother's bed.
“Why...why is mother bleeding?” Tai-Li stammered as he looked at the red cloth that was used to clean his hand off.
The other woman grabbed his hand and hurried him away. Once she placed him by Kathleen she went to the bed and pulled the curtain around Siren.
“Why aren't you helping her? Why are you letting mama bleed?” Tai-Li cried harder as he turned to Kathleen and shook her arm, not caring about the child in her arms.
“That is enough Tai-Li! There is nothing we can do...by the time your brother was born it was too late...” Kathleen tightened her grip with one arm around Tai-Shi and reached out to pull Tai-Li closer.
“Everything will be alright...” She said softly and looked down at the small boy who was finally starting to calm down. “She knew of the life you would endure. If only you were born a girl, your father would have accepted you.” She cooed softly and made room in her lap for Tai-Li to sit with them. “Tai-Li...things like this happen...it is no one's fault...”
“Why is father blaming Tai-Shi if it isn't his fault?” Tai-Li cried, his face red and his nose beginning to run.
“You wont understand now Tai-Li...when you get older...you'll come to understand everything that is happening...and what is going on...” She said as she kissed his forehead. “You have to stay strong...Tai-Shi is going to need someone to protect him...”
Tai-Li nodded and looked over at the child that she held in her other arm and reached his hand out slowly. As he did, the young boy opened his light blue eyes and grabbed onto Tai-Li's finger tightly.
“Young master, please treat your brother well. For when he grows older, only you would be able to show him kindness.” She said as Tai-Shi began to cry once again.
“Hello,” Tai-Li began with a smile, his crying slowly starting to stop, remembering his mother's request of not wanting him to cry in front of Tai-Shi. “Tai-Shi, don't worry. I'll take care of you from now on, it is my duty to stay by your side.” Tai-Li said as he kissed his little brother's cheek.
Within the castle, the news of the newborn son was being discussed. The Master's ranting was loud enough to be heard through the halls and all was quiet to hear. The sound of the dogs outside howling and barking were the only noises made heard.
“The master is going to treat that child like of his dogs if he doesn't kill him first.” The kitchen maid sighed deeply.
“If he is fed as they are, he would surely die.” The cook replied, slowly stirring the gruel in the bubbling dish.
“The poor dears. Tai-Li was so excited to hear that he would have a sister. Now he has a brother. Everyone's fate was set upon the next born child to be a girl.” Another maid said quietly, looking down at the floor below.
“It is a shame that the child was born a son. The father is so strict to the Kay Clan code. Having to never intermix the family's bloodline. Curse the first—” The kitchen maid replied.
“Quite, don't let anyone hear you say that the walls have ears and you could be hung for ever thinking that.” She sighed, “To marry only those of pure blood. The poor dears…bound together by the family code.”
“Tai-Li would have been a great Master. He is so kind and easy to smile. The mistress raised him well.” The cook said, smiling, remembering the Mistress kindly.
“What will become of the newborn?” A man asked, having joined the conversation, causing a pregnant pause.
“The poor boy, he'll grow to hate and hurt. Not having a mother's love or a father's recognition. Having neither would kill me inside.” The cook said quietly.
The others nodded but soon returned to work having hearing the heavy footsteps of Master Kay coming down the halls. The dull night turned into a rouge sunrise, beginning what could end up being a tragedy for the family.
