Stalker Circles
Roses. It was always roses. This guy always left her roses. Kira should be flattered, right? Not when it's the same time every night. She always threw them away. It used to not bother Kira. But now…
“Show's in ten minutes!” a voice said next to her. Kira quickly looked up. The manager towered over her. Kira backed up a bit.
“Hm?” she asked.
“Show in ten minutes,” the manager said. Kira nodded.
“Ah,” she said. “I see. I see.”
“What'cha got there?” the lean man asked.
“Huh?” Kira asked as she looked down at her hand. “Oh. Just some roses.” The manager looked at them and smiled.
“Ah! An admirer.”
Kira shook her head. “Not hardly. It doesn't feel right.”
“Honey, that's how it is sometimes. Now get on stage! Time is money.” Kira said nothing. Was that all people cared about in this city? Even Sheryl saw her more of a cash cow than a daughter. Seemed so stupid.
“Get a move on!” the manager snapped. “I've got thousands of guests waiting!” Kira nodded. She finished her make-up and walked out on stage.
He sat at the bar with his drink, watching her. Kira was so beautiful. She was the star of his fantasies. For three weeks, he sent her roses. He heard nothing from her. Too busy? Surely, she must have. Kira was a human not a goddess. Try for a different approach.
He waited after tonight's show. Kira sang on stage. Her voice came from her heart. Tears formed in his eyes. An angel sang from her. Kira looked as beautiful as she did in his many pictures of her on his bedroom walls and ceiling. The short black dress looked great on her. Kira seemed another world away.
Tim stood outside the Smoky Bar, smoking some tobacco. He was looking inside. Kira was singing tonight. The man could go inside. But, why wasn't he? Who can you say? Kira was just… different. Tom went to the diner across street for dinner.
Kira finished her song and walked off stage. The applause drowned out all sounds. She only tuned it out. Carson City was a filthy lie. It ran on money. She was just that, a pawn for cash. No one cared about her as a person. She was just a pretty face with a powerful voice. That's all she was to these people. But not to Tom. Such an odd guy. She should hate him, right? But, she didn't know.
Kira froze where she made it back to her dressing room. A man sat at her vanity desk, smelling her make-up. He was dressed in black with pale skin. Kira could tell he was clearly drunk.
“So pretty!” he mumbled to himself. Kira backed up to the door as she looked on.
“Uh… sir…” she spoke up. “You're not allowed back here. What do you want?” The man paused and looked up. His angel stood staring at him. An intoxicated smiled lit up his face.
“Kira?” he slurred out. “Kira?” The Carson Girl backed up again. Okay, she hadn't expected this. The girl just wanted to get her things, leave, grab dinner, and go home. That's it. Not this.
“Can I help you?” Kira asked again. The man stumbled to his feet. He seemed to be bouncing now.
“Kira!” he cheered. “Kira, my angel! Kira!” The drunk raced towards her with open arms. The girl freaked out and ran.
“My angel!” the fan yelled. “Wait, my angel! Come back!” Kira did the opposite. Please leave me alone!
The girl raced outside into the night streets. She looked around for an escape. The adrenaline kept her from thinking straight. The buildings looked the same. Come on, genius, think! You can't yourself get trapped by a pervert! Think!
She spotted the diner across the street. Good enough. Kira ran all the way inside.
Tom look up when he heard the door open wide. Kira ran to the bar and sat down to him. The man looked her up and down.
“Hello there.”
“Don't talk to me!”
Tom blinked at her. “Man troubles again?”
“A stalker!”
“Ooo!”
“In fact, could you pretend to be my boyfriend for a little while?”
“That bad?”
“Will you?”
“Sure.”
Kira bowed her head. “Thanks.”
Tom smiled. “Let me buy you dinner.”
His friend nodded. “Sure.” Tom ordered her whatever she wanted. Why was he doing all of this—pretending and all? Who can say? Infatuation? A challenge? Who could say? Tom was clearly interested in Kira for his own unsaid reasons. That's it. Nothing to it.
