When everyone woke up, everything was silent at first.
"Where are we?" Ryuji asked. Kasumi listened her head as she took a
listen.
"Shhh," she whispered.
"What?" Haruko asked.
"Listen," Kasumi whispered. Everyone took a listen.
"What are we listening to?" Saya asked.
"Shhh!" everyone said. The group took a closer listen. That's when
they heard that. Was that the ocean? Ryuji rose to his feet.
"I can hear the sea!" he shouted. He took off running forward.
"Ryuji!" Haruko shouted. She jumped and ran off her brother. The
other followed suit. As they ran, the view became clearer around
them. Everyone was running on the sand. They had never seen a sky
so blue before. The fluffy white clouds welcomed them with open
arms. Kasumi trailed behind them as she too started to see the
beach as well. She had never seen sand so white before. The palm
trees welcomed its new residents. This was it. This was the place
they had been looking for.
Ryuji ran straight into the water. The cool wetness ran up his
spine. He shivered as a little smile came across his face.
"It's real water!" he shouted. Haruko and Hisa walked to the edge
of the water. Shasha put her hands on her hips.
"Now what?" she asked. All eyes fell on her.
"What do you mean?" Ryuji asked. The girl threw up her hands in the
air.
"I don't know," she said. The question still lingered on. What were
they going to do now? The thought ended up fading away with the
serene atmosphere. Somehow, that didn't matter anymore. Kasumi
walked up to the beach. Ryuji turned his attention to her. That's
when he noticed something in his arms.
"Who is that in your arms?" the boy asked. Kasumi looked down. She
was holding a small pale baby in her arms. The child was sound
asleep by her side. Kasumi smiled to herself.
"It's Seita," she said. Her lover had a confused look on his
face.
"You're joking," he said. Kasumi shook her head. She didn't need to
explain any further.
"What are you going to do with him?" Haruko asked. The other woman
held the baby to her chest.
"I don't know yet," she said. "But I get the feeling that there
will be plenty of time to figure that out."
And here their story ends. Is there really all there is to it? For
now, the answer is yes. There might be some other parts along the
journey that might be missing. Are we ever going to hear those
stories? Maybe some other time. For now, let us leave our heroes as
they enjoy the paradise that they have traveled so far to find.
