Entry the Tenth
As I started to come to I heard various voices talking, then one of them shushed the others and said, “Look, he's coming around.”
My eyes opened to the sight of several fuzzy faces. I felt astonished to be alive. As I blinked to bring them into focus, my astonishment grew, because I recognized all of them.
“You? But, what? What's going on?”
An old friend of mine, from my days as a boy scout, Matt, was staring down at me. Next to him was my best friend AK, and last of all was Tyler. Matt winked, then indicating each of them in turn, spoke. “Hi Corben, I'm Seagull now. It seems you remember me. This is Prodigy,” here he indicated AK, er, Prodigy. “And this is Babow.”
I chuckled at that one. The name was utter nonsense, just his style. And it so perfectly described him. Er, did I say that? Well, you didn't here it from me…
“Yeah, sorry, my fields,” I started to say, but was interrupted.
“we know everything we need to, thanks to Leon here.” Prodigy indicated said person, who was, for once, not cloaked, and indeed, looked completely human, a rare happenstance.
“ok, so…”
“The Military has been contacted. The local commander refused to listen though, but one of the captains went over his head to the brigadier general. We have a plan. But we need some time before we're ready. I'm waiting for my men and my Second, Mast Envoy, to arrive.”
“now I'm more confused.”
“Corben, Seagull is the leader of a private military organization, called the Knights of the Gull. He's the Grand Master.”
“I see you haven't let power go to your head Sea. Same as always huh?”
“Of course, would you have expected anything less?”
“Not really. Now slow down. Prodigy, Babow, other than knowing me, how do you fit into this?”
“I'm the leader of the order, Paladins of the Spider. Babow is our communications specialist.”
“Again, letting things go to your head? I mean, I know you're a major Spiderman fan, I love the guy to, but still…” he laughed, loud, and hard
“HA! I should've expected that, but really, it is way more complicated than you think. Once we have some time I'll explain it to you.”
I blinked. “ok.”
“now then, we understand your situation, as we said. Here's ours, and our plan. The best route to take, is probably 470. if you can organize enough weapons and vehicles, take that. We can break the blockade and meet you there with a full battalion or my knights, plus Prodigy's paladins, who we'll be happy to provide more weapons arms and armor to, and a military convoy of hummers and ATVs. If we link up, we'll have more than enough firepower to deal with anything the aliens could hope to muster. Just keep things quiet until the right time, so they don't get wind. As long as this is a surprise, we can handle things. I can even personally promise 3 assault choppers for air cover.”
“Thanks. With a few modifications, I'll take that plan.” I looked down at my blanket covered legs, thinking. These three, of all people, here now, people I could trust, in a place unknown. “you know, you guys. I'm glad your alive. It's good seeing you.”
Prodigy laughed. “What are you talking about? You're saying it's good for us to be alive? WE're glad you're alive. For nearly two months, we'd assumed you and all of the school was dead, and now here you are, powers and everything. Even a freaky cool saber.”
“heh, yeah.” I looked over at Jewels and Franky, sitting quietly next to the bed, one looking concerned, the other hiding a smile. I jumped out of the bed, grinning, and tackled Prodigy, or tried to. He caught me in mid air, so I fielded him into a box, and I dropped like a rock back onto the bed. I got out of it, not wanting to wreck the hospital bed, so someone else could use it who needed it more. “sorry to worry you guys, I'm good to go. Just had to rest up and recover my energy.” I smiled, and the concerned face vanished, while the hidden smile stopped hiding.
“That's the plan. We need trucks and vans, and if we can get anymore of the hummers, we should go get them. Gas isn't a problem right now. We need armor and firepower, and transportation that can keep non combatants safe. Major, think you can help us get it?”
He nodded. “Yes Sir.”
We were seated inside Tar's lab, Walker, the Major, Tarius, Reggie, myself, the Principal, Sergeant Hikemen, and Blake from the Council. Ashley had just walked in. Reggie leaned back and whispered someone would go back over it for her later. We, that being myself and Leon, had only recently returned from the camp, and had first recounted everything that happened. We'd then explained the plan. The plan was not to be repeated to anyone but the leaders and a few others, at least not in entirety, and wasn't to be discussed outside of the lab. The happenings at the camp, and the fact that most of the parents were definetly still alive, and that friends and family from other schools had survived too, was announced to the whole school, then a pray service was held for the lost and the dead. But that happened later, jumping back to where we left off now.
“Tarius, I need you to outfit our vehicles with whatever you can, armor, radar, guns, whatever. And we need to better protect our fighters. Take whatever you need, and whoever you need as assistants, and get working. Walker, since the major is working on procuring more equipment for us, care to help with the drilling? We've got to prep our warriors for protecting on the move, etc. we can't dare try this unprepared.”
“You got it. We've got over 500 people to protect, no taking this lightly, am I right? I'll get to work on that. I know who to talk to.”
“You learned fast while I was gone, and built up a little influence huh? Heh, nice going. I'll be out there soon. I have one or two other things I want taken care of. Viz, come in, now! Leon, you too.”
Leon popped into visibility right at the door, and then Viz, who was once Burnie, followed him inside. “Hey Corben. I suggest you stop visualizing that, unless you want me to see it.”
I smiled. “I'd say I wasn't visualizing anything, but I guess that wouldn't fool you, would it? How bout now?” I asked as I fielded him, containing him within a field.
“now, I can't see it at all.” I undid the field.
“So, this works on anyone? If it passes through their visual cortex, you can see it, and you don't have to see someone with your eyes to gain their sight? Now that's wicked scary. Useful for scouting and interrogations, information gathering. We're going to need it. I've got some special plans for you two, our best scouts. But first, I'd like to hear how exactly you discovered this ability.”
“Well, I was talking with Luscious, and he was trying to explain one of his jokes to me, why I don't know. He gave up, and started rambling about different things. The way he seemed to see things, it was different. I started wondering what it would be like to see things from his perspective, and wishing I could, and suddenly, tada, I could see things from his perspective literally. And I could still see with mine…” as I listened, another explanation of discovery floated to my mind.
`“so, you were attacked while fleeing the city?” I stared into Franky's eyes, watching.
She nodded. “uh huh. Some raptor like things attacked. I thought I wasn't going to make it, I started wishing I was faster, wishing I could fly. I wanted to lead it away from my family, but I didn't want to get caught myself. And then I saw that one of the others had found my mom and sis. And then I wanted to fight, to do something to drive the things away and protect them. It was like, my wishes clashed, and the energy of them combining burst into brilliant fire. I felt my feet grow hot, and my shoes and socks burnt to a crisp. Wings had sprouted from my feet, right where the tattoos on the sides of them were. They were so beautiful.”
“right were your wing tattoos were? Just around the ankle? Winged feet, like the Greek Messenger God Hermes, cool.”
“Yep. Except I don't think his were made of pure white dancing flame. Mine were, and are. Beautiful, pure white hot dancing fire, perfectly controlled into the form of wings. I turned those things into ashes. And then I flew my mom and sis out of there, but I didn't make it far, my arms aren't strong enough to carry them both for long. I can fly fast, high, and far. That's how I saved you, I shot flames at that Reptildra, and then flew in to grab you.”
“And you said it was Jewels who told you I was a `Key?' what exactly does that mean?” I tilted my head a little, inquiringly, and waited for a respsonse.
“I don't know, I'm not even sure she does. She hasn't talked to you about it?”
I shook my head.
“huh.” She drew her legs in closer. She was sitting, not Indian style, but with the bottoms of her feet touching, making an arrow of sorts, pointing at me. she had her hands at just below the knees.
“um, about you're ability, you realize,”
She held up her hand. “Yes. The Same, or approxiamately so, as the character you based off me for that fanfiction story you wrote. I rather liked it. Me as a villain, an interesting twist to things.”'
“Hey Corben, who's that?”
“huh, what?” I blinked, snapped out of my remembering. Viz had apparently seen Franky as I visualized the scene from memory. Rather annoying…
“So, what are we to do? This one has troubled us plenty. And he won't die. Why didn't you kill him when you could, Tarnish?”
“Because, Rust, there were interferers.”
“And why should that have stopped you, oh great and powerful Reptildra Warrior? A single little girl?”
“SILENCE! Urani, I never want to here that from you, you failed just as miserably, against a bunch of children!”
“Yes, but again, this boy was present. He is becoming an issue in this region, and the news I bring to you makes this all the more dire. The Boy is a Key. One of the oracle converts had a vision. The Shaman concurred. Urani, I suggest you for this mission. They are planning an escape, we must not let them succeed. They are too dangerous, they would give too much hope to humanity if they succeeded.”
“You really think Urani can pull this off Corrosion?”
“Yes I do Tarnish. We of the Fallen metal can't touch him, you know that. None of the fallen ones can attempt it likely, we especially don't have the power. We ARE the weakest of the councils. Urani, take the Shaman with you. This is a chance to test some of your new power.”
“oh yes, a most excellent chance to test! I will not fail, leaders. And someday I shall rise above you.”
“HAHAHA I have no doubt of that!”
“He's gone. But why the hell do you encourage him like that?”
“Because he'd have no qualms about taking us out to get there, and I'd be happy to die. Plus, he's likely to mess things up, and anything I can do that I'm not bound not to, that ruins the masters plans, I'll do.”
“Shut it corrosion!”
“Let them, then I'll finally have truly paid for my sins, and no more will have to be hurt at my hands or order to make me pay for what I did.”
“Corrosion, truly you are aptly named.”
“Indeed, I intend to corrode this from within. But come, there is another thing. A dragon signature has been detected.”
“A dragon aura?”
“yes, two actually. One is already here, the other is trapped outside the boundary of this dimension. The one here is very small, I can only surmise that it is an egg.”
“We must keep this information quiet!”
“From those below us yes, but we can't keep it quiet from those above, you know that. We'll have to do our worst effort to search for the egg.”
“agreed. Tarnish, would you like to?”
“Yes, I shall, I'll leave you and Corrosion to yourselves for a bit, Rust. Enjoy the time.”
Back at the camp…
“HAHAHA! I still can't believe we ALL know that guy. That is one hell of a coincidence.” Envoy, second in command of the entire Knights of the Gull organization, couldn't control his mirth.
“I doubt this is coincidence. I'd say God's on our side.”
“oh really? God? Well, that's good. Having the big guy steer us all together, glad somebody has a plan.”
“I'm being serious. Something is directing all of us together, and I can't think of anyone more capable.”
“Well, if it is God, that's great, but now back to the other part of the discussion. We all know this guy, and we all end up working together. That is still freaky.”
“So how again do you know him?”
“Me? We both belonged to this Zoids rpg site on the web called MMM, somehow we just hit it off, we both like Bleach, the manga, not the chemical, not that I have a problem with the chemical, and We've been discussing and exchanging ideas ever since. You Seagull?”
“Scouts. We were in the same troop, we share similar interests. Prodigy, Babow?”
“Friend since we were both really little.”
“School.”
“That's nice to know, but how again did he recognize me?” Envoy glanced around, questioningly. Seagull provided an answer. “Apollyon. All your attacks are named after alchemical things, or they include Apollyon.”
“oh, right.”
`Corben walked into the tent. I'd called him in to meet my Second in Command, Envoy, who was to be arriving shortly. It still shocked me to see the change in him. He'd always been, as I thought, pretty intelligent, though he says I'm smarter. I, of course, completely agree. But back to Corben.
“So, how ya feeling?”
“Anxious, I want to get back.”
“I understand. Once Envoy arrives, we can get moving.”
“so who is this guy?”
“he calls himself a Ferokinetic, but he can control more than just iron. He is not, however, bound my magnetism. That is to say, he can control any metal, magnetic or otherwise. Also, he actually secretes, or more accurately, sweats some kind of super light and strong titanium alloy. I've never seen anything like it, but he can mold it like clay, only faster and better. He tends to fight with a lot of claw and tail attacks, like pieces of the very creatures we're fighting against. And he's named all the attacks that work like that Apollyon. The rest have alchemical names. Oh, and he's a bleach fan.” Corben blinked.
“As in Bleach the Manga?”
I nodded, slightly curious as to what it was Corben was suspecting, as the look on his face betrayed. I left the subject drop though, and we just talked for a little while longer about the organization.
“I formed the organization with the backing of several wealthy families, at least one or two of them directly connected to both influential and famous medieval families, included some supposed as witches, wizards, and vampires. One of them is descended from Templar Knights. Which is why we are called knights. Now, I can't name any names, or even go into how I know these people, but I was the one to respond out of those called, and to past their tests, thus I was chosen. The organization was formed 6 months ago.” At that, Corben's mouth fell open in astonishment. He recovered quickly though.
“So you're telling me.”
“Yes, my backers knew about this, knew something was coming. I never asked how. I only know this is most definetly the threat we were formed to fight. I have over 300 highly trained men and women under my command. Envoy is my second because he was the other respondy, the second to arrive, and though he barely passed their “tests” he has since fully secured himself with his newfound abilities. Some of those serving find it a good laugh they've signed on to work for what they see as “kids” even though I'm 21.”
I heard someone walk up outside the tend flap. “Sir, Knight Master Envoy has arrived.” Knight Master, the rank given my second in command. I was, of course, Grand Master. “Envoy, come in.” As the tend flap opened, I indicated the chair between myself and Corben. Corben stood as Envoy entered. Envoy was dressed in full body armor, styled on samurai armor, not quite one of the “acceptable” outfits for knights of the gull to wear, but he preferred it, and no one bothered about it. His copper blond hair fell down in front of one eye, and he was ever so slightly too thin for his height. The color of his eyes was always slightly shifting.
Corben held out his hand, and asked. “Is your favorite character hitsugaya?”
Envoy blinked, then responded, “yes, if you mean,”
“Hi, I'm Corben Cypher. But you might know me better as Forger03.”
Envoy stared for a full 5 seconds, Corben smiling broadly, then broke out laughing, saying hello, saying random things, and generally being astonished at this turn of events.'
