Chapter 5
Azriel awoke the next morning with a pulsing headache and a stiff body. She grunted as she adjusted herself to a sitting position on her bed. She glanced aimlessly towards her window and noticed clouds smothering the sky.
“Looks like it might rain today” Azriel thought to herself as she slid to the edge of the bed placing her feet on the floor.
She stood up slowly, letting her night dress pool around her knees. She then stretched her arms out wide and let out a long yawn, for some reason she was still really exhausted and weak. Walking to her window she gazed across the giant city before her, watching all the busy people scrounging the streets. She opened up her window letting in the crisp morning breeze as it danced with her hair, she closed her eyes and sighed, she loved the outdoors and the smells that came with it.
Turning towards her bathing quarters she made her way to her gigantic tub. “I so need a bath.” Azriel thought, as she pulled off her nightdress while the hot water filled the tub.
She carefully stepped in the tub, shivering as goose bumps covered her skin from the crisp morning air that filtered her room. She slowly laid herself down in the tub rejoicing in its warmth.
“Aaah, this feels so good” Azriel thought while she began to lather her body with soaps and oils. The smell of lilacs slowly drifted into her senses and made her smile.
“This smell, it’s so familiar.” Her head suddenly began to pound painfully and she groaned, clutching her head. An image of a lilac field popped into her mind as she rubbed her temples trying to soothe the pain. Azriel slowly dipped her complete body underneath the water, holding her breath as her head followed. More images flashed through her mind, a house in the middle of the lilac field completely surrounded by a thick forest, and a person who she could not quite make out for the image of them was blurry. She concentrated on the figure harder and that’s when gold eyes overwhelmed her. Azriel broke the surface of the bath water and gasped for air. She panted slightly as she rushed out of the tub and wrapped herself in a robe.
“What in the hell was that? God my head fucking hurts!” Azriel thought to herself as she paced her room. The pain in her head slowly started to lift as she continued to pace around her room.
“I need a drink, and a strong one at that. Maybe I’ll go roam the city for awhile.” Azriel contemplated as she walked over to her wardrobe. She pulled out a black corset and a black leather mini skirt. The corset had a fishnet top to it that made it almost a long sleeved shirt. Along with it she wore a black studded belt with a skull for a buckle and a purple belt as well that hung loosely around her thigh. She grabbed her mid thigh high boots that were also in her wardrobe and sat on the edge of the bed strapping and buckling them on.
Azriel looked in the mirror and sighed, she could definitely pull off wearing leather. Deciding it looked a little chilly outside she grabbed her long leather trench and put it on. Putting her hair into a long single braid in the back she looked at herself in the mirror once more. Something didn’t seem right about herself, her whole look just seemed wrong, and the only thing that seemed to make sense to her were the two black wolf ears on top of her head.
Azriel roamed the crowded streets of Baciare walking aimlessly around. She breathed in deep taking in the smells of her surroundings marveling in the sense of freedom she had. Living up to her own word she followed the scent of liquor to a medium sized bar called “Hizzahs”. Smirking to herself Azriel decided that just because of the bars name she would choose this as her place for a bit of relaxing. Walking in slowly she noticed the bar had somewhat of a solemn attitude to it but everyone was laughing and having a good time. She looked around aimlessly for a seat and found one at the end of the bar. Smoothly walking towards the seat she took the time to observe the bars inhabitants. Behind the bar was the bartender that Azriel guessed to be middle aged. He had oily blonde hair that was combed over to the side to hide his baldness, and an oily mustache that hid is mouth. Sitting down on the bar stool she glanced to her left over at the tables where majority of the people sat. Most of them men sitting at the tables were accompanied by women, who she assumed were whores by the way they were dressed. Finding all of none of them interesting to look at she looked back to find the bartender in front of her.
“What can I get for you?” questioned the bartender as he gave her a look up and down.
“I’ll have the strongest thing you got in here.” Azriel simply replied.
The bartender nodded and looked across his shelves of liquor. A smirk spread across his face as he reached for a bottle of Fire Water. “This is the strongest we got, but I don’t know if you can handle this little lady” he said with an arrogant tone to his voice.
Azriel glared at the man and rose an eyebrow “That’ll do just fine”.
The bartenders smirk quickly vanished as he sat down a glass for her and poured the contents of Fire Water in her glass. When he went to stop pouring when the glass was half full Azriel pushed the bottle back down filling it to the rim. The bartenders’ eyes then widened as she put the glass to her lips and drank it all in one gulp without one twitch. She smiled as she lowered the glass and held it out for another refill.
A few moments later and fifteen shots later, she was regretting being such a hard ass. She was drunk and by drunken meaning she was seeing twelve of everything. She gazed around the bar with a stupid grin on her face and noticed on the other side of the bar were two sulking figures. Gaining composure she stood up from the stool holding onto the bar for dear life while the effects of the booze made her sway.
“Note to self…your fucking drunk idiot…fire water is BAAAAAADDD..haha” Azriel joked in her mind as she took a few steps towards the sad looking people intending to cheer them up. One of them she noticed was a scraggy looking old man who looked up enough to watch her clumsy ass attempt to walk. The other still remained indulged in his drink not really bothering to look at anything in particular. She felt like walking only a few twenty steps took a millennium to reach, and was relieved when she made it up to the sulking pair.
“Why….why..so sad chums?” She asked wondering where chums had suddenly come from.
The old man looked at her like she was an idiot, which in turn made her blood boil. Maybe it was the fire water or maybe it was the sheer rudeness of the old mans stare but one way or another she would burn holes through him.
“WOW…touchy!.. Forget I asked… and what the hell are you looking at old man?” Azriel said as she put her hands on her hips and glared at him.
The guy next to the old guy made no effort in defending the old man but merely just sat there and continued to drink. She could not see his face from where she was standing and could only see the back of his long jet black hair. The old man snorting interrupted her thoughts and she quickly bolted a glare at the old man again.
“Young missy you ain’t gonna come over here and start trouble so just march your little toosh right back where you came from” the old man replied dryly.
Azriel cringed at his grammar and the use of the word “toosh”. She looked him up and down and went to lean against the bar and fell on the man who had yet to say a word. He barely budged till she grabbed onto him to save herself and only managed to drag him down with her. The feel of his body on top of hers sent a weird tingle through her spine she groaned as she looked up and glanced around at the crowd staring at the scene before them. The man on top of her lifted himself up and brushed himself off keeping his face hidden behind is long black bangs. Her eyes widened when she noticed two white wolf ears on top of his head.
“How come I didn’t notice those before?” she thought as she slowly struggled to stand herself.
Suddenly there was a loud explosion it seemed and men in uniform rushed through the doors and windows of the bar. One of ran to Azriel and swiftly picked her up and threw her over his shoulder and quickly made his way out of the bar. She screamed and kicked as the man forcefully held her to him, glancing back she saw the man with wolf ears look up and golden eyes met hers.
