Work Day
-Soon-
Some days I feel so useless. Mai-chan's the one doing all the work.
Be works at her office too. Jin is still in school. I'm just stuck
at home doing nothing.
I sighed and buried my head in my hands. I can't do this. I need a
job.
I got up and walked over to the computer. Jin showed me how to use
it. I didn't expect it to be so easy. He helped me build a
resume.
“A resume?” I asked.
“Uh-huh,” Jin said. “You need one to get a job.” I blinked at
him.
“How did you know?” I asked.
“You're always looking in the papers,” he said. “This will make
things easier.” I watched him work. Jin's fingers worked faster
than lighting. I could barely keep up. It looked like
witchcraft.
“Done,” Jin said at last. I looked up with a start.
“Huh?” I asked. He turned to me.
“Now we just need to fill out your information,” he said.
“My information?”
“Yeah. It will help you get a job.”
I must have looked stupid. Jin kind of smiled and patted me on the
hand.
“Let me help you,” he said. I nodded.
“Right…” I said.
I went to the job market online. Where should I start? Jin asked me
what I could do. Fishing, digging, hunting, and… what else? I took
a moment to think. A frown formed on my face. I… I don't have any
real skills. I can't type. I'm not really good with computers. I
only know basic math. I leaned back in my seat.
Now what?
I turned my head to see the door open.
“I'm coming in,” I heard Be say. She walked up the stairs to her
mom's office.
“Soon?” she asked. “What are you doing here?” I looked at the
screen.
“Oh. I was looking for a job,” I said. I clicked away from the
search engine. Be walked into the room with caution.
“Any luck?” she asked. I shook my head.
“I don't know where to start,” I said.
“Well, what is your job experience?” Be asked.
“My job experience?” I asked. There was only one thing I could
think of.
“I was a soldier. For the Yakki clan,” I mumbled. I looked away as
I said that. There was a pause. Oh no.
“Is that true?” Be asked. I sighed.
“Yeah,” I said. I tried to keep that part of my life buried. Why
did I say that?
“Anything else?” Be asked. I looked up. No, don't. Don't look at me
like that. Please. No.
“What are your skills?” Be asked. I stared blankly.
“Fishing, digging, hunting, you know, outdoor stuff,” I said.
“Well, let's start there,” she said. Be walked over to the
computer. She started typing away. I watched like I had just seen a
computer for the first time.
“Okay,” Be said. “Here's what we have.” I leaned in for a look. The
list didn't look too bad. Maybe I could find work after all.
“What about that one?” I asked, pointing to the screen.
“This one?” Be asked, moving the cursor to the “Fishing Job”
link.
“Yeah,” I said.
“Okay,” she said. Be clicked the link.
