Cruise Trip

There is a perk to doing these lectures.

“There's a letter for you here,” Jin said.

“A letter?” Soon asked.

“Uh-huh,” the boy said. He handed the man the letter. Soon ripped it open. He read the letter to himself. Surprise washed over his face.

“I got invited to a cruise,” Soon said. Jin perked up.

“A cruise?” he asked.

“I guess so,” Soon said.

“Are you going to go?” the boy asked.

“I don't know,” the man said.

“You should go!” Jin said. The man stared at him.

“Are you sure?” he asked.

“Yes,” Jin said. “When was the last time you were on vacation?” Soon didn't have an answer.

“I don't know,” he said. Soon looked at the letter. A cruise huh? Mai-Pai seemed to like the idea.

“A cruise?” she asked. “I have never been on one.”

“Really?” Soon asked. “Well… Do you…?” Mai-Pai stared dumbfounded.

“Can we even afford it?” she asked.

“This letter says it's free,” Soon said. His girlfriend looked shocked.

“Oh?” she asked. That settled their answers.

This was a three-day cruise. They were just sailing around some small islands. Fine by them.

“Do you have everything ready?” Be asked.

“Yes,” Mai-Pai said.

“Good,” her daughter said. “Be careful and have fun.”

“We will,” Soon said. The couple climbed into the car and drove off. They made it to the port in three hours. Mai-Pai read the brochure the whole time.

“Let's see,” she said. “There's the all-you-can-eat buffet. We get a suite room. There was plenty of shows. Ooo! There's even a contest on the cruise.”

“Uh-huh,” Soon said. Mai-Pai looked up at him.

“Are you excited?” she asked.

“Yeah,” he said. His girlfriend tilted her head.

“You don't sound like it,” she said. Soon shrugged.

“I am,” he said. “It's just…”

“Not used to it, are you?” Mai-Pai asked.

“No,” Soon said.

“You didn't go on vacation after the exile?” she asked.

“No,” he said. Mai-Pai patted him on the arm.

“Don't worry,” she said. “It will be fun. We can take it slow if you want.” Soon pressed his lips together.

“Okay,” he said. His girlfriend smiled.

They pulled into the parking lot. The couple unloaded the car and made their way to the boat. The staff helped them get on. Soon and Mai-Pai held hands. She smiled at him.

“Let's go,” the woman whispered. Soon followed her onto the boat.
