Paris Trip
Mai-Pai and Soon ended up on another vacation two weeks later.
Mai-Pai thought she was to faint.
“Paris? Paris?!” she asked.
“Yeah,” Soon said. “I'm invited to speak out there too.” Mai-Pai
about fainted.
“So… are we going?” he asked. She nodded in shock. So away they
went.
Paris was nice. The couple had never been out of the country
before. This would be an experience. Soon turned to Mai-Pai.
“What should we do first?” he asked. She took a moment to
think.
“I don't know,” his girlfriend said. Suddenly, her stomach growled.
Mai-Pai nervously chuckled.
“We should get something to eat,” she said.
“Good idea,” Soon said. The couple came across a small restaurant
in the downtown area. They had to ask a guide for a little help.
The couple sat by the window this morning. Mai-Pai took a bite of
her crepe.
“Mmm,” she said. Soon watched her eat. He loved mornings like
this.
“Want to see the Eifel Tower later?” he asked. She glanced at
him.
“Sure,” she said. The woman went back to eating. Soon shrugged to
himself. He started on his breakfast.
Halfway through, Mai-Pai paused when she heard sobbing.
“What is it?” Soon asked. His girlfriend looked around. Her eyes
went to the back corner. A woman in her twenties sat, crying. The
couple looked at each other.
“No,” Soon said.
“Please?” Mai-Pai asked. Her boyfriend shook his head.
“No,” he said. Mai-Pai got up and walked over to the woman's
table.
“Mai-Pai!” Soon shouted. He quickly looked around. Not many people
were looking at them. The man held his breath. Oh boy…
---------
Mai-Pai walked over to the woman's table.
“Hey, are you okay?” she asked. The woman sat up, blinking.
“Huh?” she asked.
“Mind if I sit down?” Mai-Pai asked. The younger woman shook her
head.
“Thank you,” the Asian woman said. She sat down in front of the
woman. She handed her a tissue.
“Thank you,” the woman said. She wiped her eyes and blew her
nose.
“Now, what's the matter?” Mai-Pai asked. The woman sobbed.
“He's been cheating on me! I just know it!” she whimpered.
“Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that,” the older woman said.
“I love him so much!” the woman shouted. Mai-Pai patted her on the
arm.
“It's okay,” she said. The woman broke down crying. Mai-Pai stayed
by her, comforting her.
Meanwhile, Soon sat by, watching. He frowned to himself. Really? He
sighed and got up. No sooner had he walked outside, the man got
pulled into his role to fix the problem.
Soon spotted a man in his twenties pacing around, throwing his
hands in the air.
“Damn it!” he shouted. Soon should just turn around and walk back
inside. He shouldn't get involved.
“Excuse me,” Soon said. The young man turned around. Soon paused
for a moment.
“Uh… are you okay?” he asked. The young man threw back his head and
sighed.
“It's my girl,” he said. The man pointed into the caf.
“She always gets the wrong idea,” he said. Soon looked behind
him.
“Wait… was she the one crying in the corner?” he asked.
“Yes,” the other man said.
“Oh…” Soon muttered. He already saw where this was heading. Mai-Pai
was already at work too. Oh boy…
“Care to take a walk with me?” Soon asked.
“Huh?” the young man asked. Soon took him by the arm and walked
down the street with him. The young man didn't even get a chance to
speak up. Might as well get this over with. Might as well get this
over with.
Oh boy…
