And Then… (Pt. 2)

They really had a full house now. Even more so with Pumpkin, Steven, and Ling. Everyone sat around at the table. Soon and Mai-Pai looked at each other.

“What are they all doing here?” Soon asked.

“Does it matter?” Mai-Pai asked. “They're here.” Soon couldn't argue.

“So how long have you been dating?” Be asked.

“Two years,” Kana said. Jin held her hand.

“Why didn't you tell us?” Soon asked.

“Time got away from us,” Jin said.

“How old are you now, Kiko?” Pumpkin asked. The little girl counted on her fingers.

“I'm five!” she said. The adults giggled. Mai-Pai smiled.

“So you think it will be a boy or a girl?” Be asked.

“I don't know,” Chiko said. “We're going to see when the baby's born.”

“I see,” Soon said.

“I hope it will be a boy,” Roco said, flexing his muscles. Chiko frowned and hit him on the arm.

“Ow,” he whispered.

“Stop that,” she said. Her husband frowned and pouted. Everyone else laughed. Roco dropped his head.

“Are you guys hungry?” Mai-Pai asked.

“Yes!” everyone said. She rose to her feet.

“Right! I will see what I can do,” the old woman said. She turned and walked into the kitchen.

The table really came to life. So much chatter around the house. Everyone looked so happy. When was the last time they were altogether like this? Everyone had separate lives. Mai-Pai was happy her son and girls were happy. Shin help up a bottle of sake.

“Who wants a drink?” he asked, laughing. Soon groaned as he dropped his head back.

“Dad!” he wailed.

“I'll pass,” Chiko said. Her hand rested on her stomach.

“Fair enough,” Shin said.

“I'll have some,” Hindeo said. The old man laughed and poured drinks for everyone else. Chiko had a cup of juice. Shin stood up with his cup in hand.

“I propose a toast!” he said. Everyone held up their cups.

“To the future!” Shin said.

“To the future!” everyone said. They held up their drinks before they drank up. Mai-Pai and Soon held hands and smiled at each other. By morning, they will all be gone. The house will be empty again. Still, the couple were happy with that.

“I love you, Soon,” Mai-Pai said.

“I love you too, Mai-Pai,” Soon said. They pressed their foreheads together and smiled. May their futures be as happy.
