Miharu somehow managed to wait a few days before writing back, so that no one would be suspicious. She had found some rice paper, and tucked it away in her little writing desk. When all the other girls were working on various crafts and projects, she tucked herself away in a corner and prepared to write.

Just before she laid the brush tip on the paper, an inquisitive voice came from behind her.

“What ever are you doing, my lady?” It was Sakura, one of her youngest handmaidens.

She plastered a smile on her face and turned around. “Oh, I just had this silly little idea. I'm going to write a secret diary on little slips of rice paper and then throw them into the wind. And then someone far away will pick them up and wonder who wrote them!” She grinned, hoping Sakura would believe her. It seemed like something she would do, or one of the other girls would do.

“Oh, that's a neat idea! I'll leave you alone so you can write.” She smiled and went back to the other girls.

Miharu let out a breath she had been holding, steadied her nerves, and went back to writing.

Dear Kazemaru-sama,

The paper was difficult to write on because it was so thin and absorbent, so she traced lightly.

I was overjoyed to receive your letter. Please, if you would come see me again I would appreciate it greatly. I will wait for you on the night of no moon. I am yours completely,

Miharu no Kurihama

Miharu blew on the paper, which dried quickly. She quietly stepped out of the room, taking Sakura since she thought she knew what was going on. She chatted with her idly as she walked to the edge of the compound. Once there, she stood with her hand outstretched, until a good breeze came. It practically pulled the paper out of her hand, and up into the sky. They watched as it disappeared against the white clouds, and then headed back indoors.

Miharu managed to keep her mind alert and focused, knowing she was going to see him soon. Three days, she thought. Just three days. Then I'll get to see him again.

Kazemaru was surveying an area where a recent battle had taken place between a couple of Yokai. They had moved on quickly, and he wondered who they had been. He could only tell what kind of Yokai they were, and which direction they had headed. They had only grazed his territory, so he figured it wasn't too important.

Something white fluttered in front of him, and he reflexively grabbed it between his fingers, thinking it was another feather.

But it was paper. He tried to read it and realized the ink had bled through, and he was looking at the back. He turned it over, and read the short note several times. The night of no moon. That was three days from now, wasn't it? He would be there. He smiled at the signature, which she had meticulously written in Kanji. It was as delicate as she was.

He carefully tucked away the note, and left the scene. He had things to take care of.
