The next few days were quite interesting as Lathanos watched Romona and Sobasa constantly bickered back and forth. There were a couple of incidents to go on.
The first happened at the camp. Sobasa had stupidly decided to place his hand in the raging flames of the campfire. Romona's long forgotten wings flickered as she removed her cloak. She ended up having to listen to Sobasa's comments as her wings fluttered over his scorched hand to numb the pain.
Sobasa laughed heartedly, saying, “The wings fit you; they're truly beautiful!”
Romona, with no patience, said, “Thank you.”
Sobasa took his chance and, not worried about his hand, touched her shoulder gently. He began to move it down her back, saying, “Yes, you are beautiful,” Sobasa had a grin spread across his face.
Romona gasped. She pulled away from Sobasa and slapped him so hard that he fell to the ground, cracking his head on the hard earth. She then stormed off in a rage.
Lathanos finally shoved up his hands full of firewood. “This will be a long trip…” He muttered.

The next incident happened not long after. Firebolt had shown up at camp and Romona took her down to a close creek.
Firebolt drank the water greedily, never acknowledging Sobasa. Sobasa smiled sheepishly before splashing water on Romona.
Romona resembled a raving lunatic as she chased Sobasa down the creek. Sobasa ran laughing all the way back to camp, Romona following close behind. Lathanos finally stopped both of them, blocking Romona from getting to Sobasa by holding her to him. When he finally let go, they were both blushing and Firebolt was snickering behind Lathanos.
“Oh man, I had you, bro.! I set you up!” Sobasa laughed.
Lathanos, still blushing, went from embarrassment to rage as he stuttered angrily, “You…you…”
They ended up going their separate ways until camp that night. They all sat quietly, staring into the fire.

Romona was the first to speak. “Sobasa, may I see your staff?” She asked quietly.
“Yeah, sure,” Sobasa replied. He tossed the staff lightly to her as she caught it.
She looked it over carefully as she muttered something. She dropped the staff to the ground as Sobasa's comments started to spew forth. Romona's sharp gasp as the staff started to take on an eerie, red glow cut Sobasa's words short.
Slowly, Lathanos came out of the shadows as he said, “What is going on?!”
A soft voice cut in, and later it would be recognized as Romona's. “That staff has demon trapped in its clutches. It gives off that red glow at night, doesn't it Sobasa?”
Sobasa nodded slowly. Speaking in almost a whisper, he said, “I always had thought it was some kind of enchantment, or spell,”
Lathanos reached cautiously out to the staff, and upon touching it he yelped like a fox. He drew his hand back quickly and cuddled it in his lap.
Romona bit her lip and took Lathanos's hand in her own. “Stay still,” She whispered gently. He didn't move an inch as she turned over his hand to examine his burnt palm and fingertips. They were charred black. A blue light extended from her hand as she touched her hand to his. Lathanos cringed, but when she released his hand, it was fully healed.
Sobasa jumped forward to examine Lathanos's hand. “How in the…?”
Romona's gaze had returned to the staff, but she said in an emotionless voice, “I healed him. I have been able to do this since I was but a young girl.”
Lathanos spoke in awe, “Thank you…”
Sobasa reached forward and grasped the staff, muttering, “Why doesn't it hurt me…”

No one spoke for a long while. Lathanos had gone to bed a while earlier. Romona looked up, saying, “You can grasp that staff because you are not human,” She disappeared to her tent with a flutter of her wings, leaving Sobasa alone with his thought.
“Not human…? What does she mean by that?!” Sobasa muttered.
“Are you beginning to get the picture, Sobasa?!” A cold, dark voice said behind him.
Sobasa quickly turned around to a tall, bald, muscular man wearing pair of all black goggles, a jet black sleeveless robe, a pair of deep grey slacks, and a pair of black boots. “Who…who are you? You don't look like the people of this region,” Sobasa asked.
“My name is Risuma. I am your father,” The man replied in a soft, deep, emotionless voice.
“But I thought -“
“You thought wrong, Sobasa. Your mother didn't think I would make a suitable father for you, so she left me for some idiot elf!” Risuma exclaimed angrily. “It sickens me that she would choose an elf over me!”
“Well, if I'm not part elf, then what am I?” Sobasa asked. “Why can I touch that demonic staff?!”
“Because you are a half demon, Sobasa,” Risuma replied calmly.
“Well, that explains a lot.” Sobasa stated.
“I must go now. Goodbye, Sobasa!” Risuma stated.
“Wait! I have so much to ask you!” Sobasa exclaimed.
“Do not worry, my son. We shall meet again.” Risuma replied, and he turned and dashed silently into the forest.
Sobasa stood frozen in his tracks. Who was that guy? Where did he come from?

CRASH!
Lathanos awoke to Sobasa running passed him, followed by a raging Romona. “I swear, I didn't mean to!” Sobasa was yelling, which wasn't doing any good.
Lathanos quickly stepped in between them. “What the hell is going on here, you two?!”
“Your brother here talked about my family in a not so pleasant way, if you will, then he had the nerve to just up and tackle me!!” Romona screamed, her face red with anger.
“Hey, if you had just told me what you had meant by `I'm not human', I wouldn't have talked shit about your family!” Sobasa shouted.
“Well ok, that's understandable, but why the heck did you tackle me?!” Romona replied angrily.
“I don't really know. It felt as if someone had…just pushed me forward…how else would I have flown ten feet forward?!”
“He…does have a point…” Lathanos stated.
“Fine, take his side!” Romona cried.
“I'm sorry! It's just that he flew ten feet forward, and that is not normal in a human!” Lathanos replied.
“That is because he is not human!” Romona said coldly. She glared at Sobasa.
“Let's just drop it, alright?! We still have a ways to go,” Lathanos stated.
“Yeah, you're right. Let's just forget it ever happened. I'm sorry I snapped at you, Sobasa…” Romona replied. You could tell she had forced herself to say that last sentence.
“It's alright, Romona…” Sobasa stated. He made to hug her, when she stopped him.
“Don't push your luck…” She said. They then quickly packed up and made for the next village.

They soon reached a small village, elven by the looks of it. “Romona!” A voice shouted excitedly.

A/N: Well, what did you think?! I know it was short, but I felt this was a good place to end the chapter. Don't worry though. The next chapter should be longer, and more exciting! lol. Anyway, see yall!
