“I'm turning in, Sobasa. G'night,” Lathanos yawned, tossing his cloak on the floor and flopping onto the bed. He pulled the sheets over himself.
“Damn that cloaked man! What was he doing here?!” Sobasa exclaimed furiously once he was sure Lathanos was asleep. “Did he follow us here?! And that Solem guy, he looked awfully familiar! Where have I seen him before?!”
Sobasa quickly grabbed his staff and headed out the door, making sure not to slam it. He moved swiftly for the main hall. Surprisingly, the man was still there. Sobasa crept up to the cloaked man and put his arm around the man's neck, pulling him forcefully out of his seat. He took the back of the man's cloaked head and slammed it into the wall, holding it there. “Who the hell are you, and what the hell are you doing here?!” Sobasa demanded. “I could tell you had been eying me and my brother! Why?!”
No answer.
“Tell me now!!”
Still no answer.
Sobasa was beginning to get angry. “Tell…me…NOW!!!”
The man still gave no reply.
Sobasa ripped the black cloak off of the man's head, revealing a bald head. He was wearing a pair of black goggles. Sobasa slowly backed away, a look of horror on his face. “F-father…?”
“Correct. I followed you here, hoping you would notice me and investigate. I have been wishing to speak with you privately, my son,” Risuma replied calmly.
“Then why didn't you just talk with me back in the forest?” Sobasa asked.
“Because I was currently on the run from one of the countless bounty hunters that are on my ass,” Risuma replied. “Take care not to mention the 10 million rupee bounty on my head to your brother. Rumor has it that your brother sprang a convict from a max. prison for 4,000 rupees. He'd likely take me down if he knew of my worth!”
“Don't worry, father. I won't tell him,” Sobasa promised. “So you're really worth 10 million?!!”
“Yes,”
“What did you do to be worth 10 million rupees?!” Sobasa asked curiously.
Knocked off a few large cities,”
“You…slaughtered entire cities?!”
You are correct. Nothing big…”
“'Nothing big'?! Bullshit! That's huge!” Sobasa exclaimed.
“Not to me. To knock off an entire civilization would be what I would consider a big job,” Risuma stated.
“No shit!” Sobasa exclaimed.
“I am currently trying to end the Elven people at this point; as a bonus, I'm getting paid for it,”
“You're…an El….Elven slayer?!”
“Correct!” Risuma smiled wickedly at this reply.
“You'll be worth at least 100 million if you manage to pull that off!” Sobasa exclaimed. “Just make sure not to harm my brother, kay?!”
“Don't worry; I couldn't bear to cause you any pain! He may be part elf, but he's not full elf, so I don't really give a damn,”
“Ok, good! Anyway, who's paying you?”
“Someone who goes by the name of Etheros…” Risuma replied.
Sobasa gasped. “E-Etheros…?!”
“Yes,”
“…And another question: Why do you where those goggles, even during the night?! It must be next to impossible to see…”
“Well, not exactly…I can see you perfectly right now…” Risuma replied, smirking.
“How is that…possible?!”
“I'll show you,” Risuma removed the goggles, revealing icy blue eyes that seemed to glow. No pupils were visible.
“Your…your…your eyes…they…they…”Sobasa gasped.
“Yes, I know. It's the result from one of my previous battles…”
“What happened?!” Sobasa asked.
“Well, let's just say that I wasn't able to dodge the attack of a demon…” Risuma said. After what seemed like an eternity, Risuma finally said, “Listen, I will have to tell you about it later…I am sorry we couldn't have talked for a longer time,” Risuma put his goggles on and his hood up. “Until we meet again…” With that, he disappeared.
Without saying a word, Sobasa slipped back to his and Lathanos's room, moving like a shadow. He lied down on the floor and drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

Romona had slipped out of her room earlier and waited on the outskirts of the forest. Risuma moved by her a short while later, stopping when he was even with her. Romona pulled her hair back, her elven ears showing as her wings flickered to life underneath her cloak.
Risuma lowered his hood, a small, wicked smile on his face as he said, “Your time shall come…elf,”
Romona shifted and was standing in front of him, looking up at him with an understanding smile. She reached up slowly to his goggles.
As her fingers grasped his goggles, his hand shot up fast as lightning and grasped his wrist forcefully. He was squeezing tightly. “Do not touch me!!” He roared. “I shall enjoy killing you above all other Elven that I kill! I shall love to see the blood spilling from your dying body! I shall take pleasure in seeing you die!!!”
“You psychotic freak!!” Romona shrieked, trying to break free of his grasp, but it was no use. He was completely overpowering her. Her tone suddenly turned dark and cold. She spoke in a soft, dangerous voice as she said, “You indeed are far stronger than I had envisioned you to be. I had heard that a man was killing off the Elven people, but I didn't think that you would be able to cancel out my Elven magic and render me helpless and unable to break free of your grasp…”
“You noticed that, did you?! Heh, figures an elf with your strength and skill would notice something such as that…” Risuma cackled, throwing Romona to the ground. “I would take care to watch your back, elf, for I shall strike without warning!” With that, he vanished.
Romona struggled to her feet. Suddenly, a child's voice split the air, “Sobasa's father…I would never have suspected…”

In the morning, breakfast was served by a harassed teenager. Romona paid for the breakfast, which was simple: biscuits and jam.
Sobasa didn't say anything that morning, only ate with gusto. Lathanos opened his mouth to say something, but Romona kicked his shin. Instead of speaking, Lathanos spent the morning nursing his bruised shin. Elaina was playing with Romona outside as both flew up and dived, Elaina of course gripping Romona. Solem sat at the table, watching through the window with a dumb look.
Sobasa finally came to his senses and, looking at Solem, said, “Wow…was he born looking like that…?”
Lathanos was snickering in the background as Solem looked over at Sobasa and scowled. Romona and Elaina appeared a moment and, looking at their expressions, chuckled lightly.
A few moments later, Romona was being dragged off by various elves for advice or to be talked to. The rest of them only at this, enjoying the time in a city and not camping in a forest. Of course, this couldn't last forever.
Lathanos looked out the window, speaking softly, “We will have to leave…everyday Etheros is getting stronger,”
Solem's eyes flicked up to meet Sobasa's as he said, “Yes, everyday he gains more henchmen, and everyday, he trains rigorously…”
Sobasa shifted uncomfortably, but he was saved from speaking when Lathanos muttered, “I wonder if the elves could train me…”
Solem chuckled and spoke thoughtfully, “I doubt that, but maybe Romona could train you…she could be…” Solem hesitated, then said, “No! She is stronger than any other elf!”
Elaina seemed to appear out of thin air, appearing by Solem's elbow. She placed a hand on his shoulder. “The elves are getting restless…and most won't speak. Danger is near as Romona put it…” She said.
Sobasa finally spoke, but seemed to choose his words carefully, “Did she say who…no, what it was?!”
Elaina caught his gaze, something in her eyes spoke of what he feared. Then she smiled unexpectedly. “No, she didn't, but you will know soon enough…” She whispered.
Everyone shivered involuntarily, for her voice was that of an adult, not a child. A large “BOOM” was heard throughout the town. Lathanos and Sobasa disappeared while Elaina's long, Silver hair whipped around her face. She shook her head, whispering, “It won't happen today…but Sobasa will eventually kill him…”

Dust littered the streets as Sobasa, Lathanos, and Solem ran. Romona was waiting for them, and as soon as Sobasa reached the edge of town, she tripped him. Lathanos managed to fall after him, and Solem stopped.
Sobasa was the first to recover, jumping up and shouting, “What the hell was THAT for?!”
Romona smiled, answering calmly, “You shall not fight for this is my battle…but do not worry, I will not kill him…” Lathanos jumped to his feet, looking as though he was ready for anything. Solem simply hung back and kept his mouth shut. “Lathanos, I told you that this is my fight! You shall not fight!!” Romona shouted.
“Heh! You would be better off letting them handle it, Romona! You don't wanna get hurt, do you?!” A wicked voice cackled. Suddenly, Risuma leapt out of the forest.
Lathanos stepped in front of Romona. “I shall fight him. I won't stand to see you get killed!” He shouted fiercely.
“Well, I made a promise to Sobasa that I wouldn't harm you, but I guess I shall have to make an exception to that promise!” Risuma exclaimed wickedly.
“Step down, Lathanos! I shall fight him!!” Romona shouted.
“No!! I am fighting him, and nothing shall change my mind!” Lathanos argued. Romona knew that Lathanos wasn't going to listen to her, and stepped back.
“Now, shall we get started?!” Risuma exclaimed.
“Ready when you are, but why don't you get rid of those goggles?!” Lathanos replied.
“My pleasure!!!” Risuma laughed hysterically. He gripped the front of his goggles and threw them into the air. He kept his arm in the air. “LET~~THERE~~BE~~DARKNESS~~!!!” Risuma screamed. Suddenly, his arm started to glow black. A black shower of energy flowed up and out of his arm. The entire area became enshrouded in darkness. It became impossible to see.
“What the hell?! Why can't I see?! What did you do?!!” Lathanos shouted, terrified.
“Hahahahahah! You can't see me, yet I can see you as clear as day!!!” Risuma cackled wickedly. Lathanos drew his sword and prepared for the worst. As if it was nothing, Risuma cut through Lathanos with his bare hands. Lathanos flinched. Risuma then went the opposite way. Lathanos was helpless to defend as Risuma cut through Lathanos's side.
“Damn…you…” Lathanos stuttered as Risuma cut through his other side. He then came up behind Lathanos. Lathanos instinctively elbowed Risuma in the face. Risuma flinched. “You keep up the same pattern, and you're bound to get defeated.
“Shut up, Lathanos!” Risuma shouted. He smacked Lathanos's elbow to the side and knocked him back several meters. Lathanos was just barely able to land on his feet. Suddenly, Risuma dropped down from above Lathanos and crushed his elbow, breaking his arm. Lathanos cried out in agonizing pain. Lathanos had long since dropped his katana. “You are clearly not ready to face me! I shall challenge you again when you are ready!” Risuma said calmly. He raised his arm in the air, and the blackness seemed to be absorbed back into his arm. He picked his goggles up and put them on. He then disappeared in a puff of black smoke.
Lathanos struggled to his feet. He slowly made his way to his sword and picked it up, sheathing it afterward. He was covered in blood. He suddenly collapsed forward. Romona gasped and ran to catch him. As she caught him, he smiled. “See…I don't know what I would do if you died…” Lathanos mumbled, half conscious. His eyes then closed, and he passed out.
