Chapter 3: Regreso

Dai shifted Ryder gently in his arms while he moved to the kitchen doorway, leaning against it gently while he watched the man put his coat on the coat rack, removing the gun from his belt and all the other necessities of being a detective.

”Da Da!” Ryder shouted happily, squirming in Dai’s arms and whimpering. He was set down carefully, running over on small legs and clinging to the man’s legs, smiling cutely up to him. It would melt the heart of any to see that happy little face, and that’s just what it did for Marcus.

The brown-haired male grinned and brushed his fingers through the spiked brown hair, bending down and picking him up. “There’s my little man.” He tickled his stomach gently, holding him close and smiling. “You been taking care of your Mommy?” He questioned, lifting him up in the air and laughing softly.

Ryder laughed ecstatically and squirmed in his hands, clinging to his neck and smiling. “Uh huh!” He looked over, pointing to Dai and giggling. Dai brushed his fingers through the dark black hair that covered his eyes, smiling. “Hot chocolate.” He stated simply, earning a chuckle from Marcus as he set the child down on the ground.

”Ah. I see.” Marcus replied simply, smiling as Ryder toddled back over to Dai, hugging his leg and giggling. Dai only smiled softly and stroked his hair. “Go watch TV while I get your hot chocolate ready, sweetie.” He ruffled his hair, watching the child happily walk off towards the couch. He let out a sigh, moving back into the kitchen and stirred the mixture in the pot, slowly pulling it off the eye of the oven.

Marcus raised a brow and shook his head. “So you’re mad at me I take it?” He chuckled, crossing his arms over his chest. Marcus was considerably taller and… well, larger in quite all aspects against Dai. He had stunning green eyes and that trademark dark brown hair that was spiked up so casually. His body was well-toned from having to work out at the personal gym they had right in the house. For his sort of job, it wasn’t surprising, really. He removed the belt that held all his daily necessities, setting it on the table and raising a brow.

”No.” Dai replied simply, pouring some of the hot chocolate into a sippy cup for the small child. “You’re never home when I get here, I get used to it.” He replied simply, setting it down and pouring himself a cup as well. “Besides, your job is important, I suppose.” He shook his head, sighing and looking downwards. “Though I do sometimes want to question what you want to label our relationship as. You’re never home, don’t bother to call and check up on Ryder or anyone, and you always come home acting like everything’s going to be peachy keen.” He murmured silently, furrowing his brows and shaking his head.

The older male grinned lightly and moved behind him, strong arms sliding securely around Dai’s waist. “Oh come on.” He stated simply, scoffing. “What the hell is wrong with you? We’ve made love god knows how many times and you still want to tell me you doubt my views on our relationship?”

”That doesn’t matter anymore.” He informed simply. “Let me go.” He turned, shaking his head. “You act like coming here and taking care of both of us is more like a job. You treat me more like some acquaintance rather than your boyfriend, Marcus. You make love like it’s what you have to do. Who gives a damn about romance anymore though, huh?” He laughed weakly, pushing past him and moving into the living room.

Marcus raised a brow and watched him, shaking his head and chuckling. “I don’t need this, you know. If you act like you don’t need me, go ahead and take care of Ryder all by your fucking self, Dai.” He grinned, knowing that would hurt the male quite a lot. And it did, because Dai stopped in mid-track, standing still for a long moment. Marcus expected him to turn around and slap him across the face like he’d received many times after saying such hurtful things.

Yet Dai only shook his head and moved forward. “Here, sweetie.” He placed the small sippy cup in the child’s hands, kissing his hair tenderly. Ryder quickly began nursing on the top of it, looking at the TV and sipping on the hot chocolate happily. Dai smiled weakly and traced his pale fingers through his hair, taking a seat next to him.

Marcus raised a brow as he stood in the kitchen, staring at the both of them and shaking his head. Dai really would take care of Ryder on his own? The sudden urge to grab him by the shirt and shake him filled the male’s limbs, making his fingers twitch with anticipation. Marcus brought in the money. Marcus bought this house for their family. Back then. Fine. He wanted romance, he’d get romance.

What could he do? A dinner? Roses? Candles? Marcus slid down into the kitchen chair and crossed his legs lightly, lighting up a cigarette and sticking it at the corner of his lips. Romance hadn’t been a big problem beforehand because he figured Dai had too much schoolwork to deal with it. But if he really wanted romance, then damn would Marcus show him romance. He grinned widely and popped his sore back, standing up.

”Dai,” He spoke up as he moved into the living room. Said male was currently stroking Ryder’s hair as the child dozed quietly with his head on his lap, looking up and raising a brow as he stared at Marcus. “What?” He questioned, looking down to Ryder and slowly scooping him up in his arms. “Bedtime…” He whispered, kissing the child’s temple tenderly.

”Be ready when you get home tomorrow.” He informed, unbuttoning his shirt as he headed for the stairs. “I’ve got a surprise for you,” was his only explanation as he looked back, grinning.

Dai was left befuddled as he stared up at Marcus, shifting Ryder gently on his hip. “A surprise…?”
