Flight
-Isao-
I waited at the table. She's kind of weird. I didn't want to be
here. I was just going to humor her for a while. I had to admit
that I had an escape plan.
I looked down when my phone buzzed. Ah. I took it out and looked at
the screen. My man, Gary, came through.
“Need to be rescued?” he wrote. I smiled at the message.
“Looks like it,” I wrote. I hit send. Just then, Mai came back. I
shoved my phone into my pocket.
“Everything good?” I asked. She kind of glared at me as she sat
down.
“Okay…” I said.
“Listen,” Mai said. “I have a friend picking me up.”
“You too?” I asked. She looked caught off guard.
“You're leaving?” she asked.
“Yeah,” I said. “No point in staying here.” I don't think she knew
what to think.
“But what about the food?” she asked.
“We can get it as takeout,” I said. I stuck my hand in the air.
“Waitress!” I said. Our waitress looked up and saw us.
“Yes?” she asked.
“Can you make our meal to go?” I asked.
“Sure,” she said. She walked to the kitchen. I put my hands in a
little shrug.
“See?” I said. Mai frowned and snorted. Oh well. Our phones buzzed
at the same time. We looked at our screens.
“Ah, my guy's going to be here,” I said.
“Same,” Mai said. We looked at each other.
“Who gets the bill?” I asked.
“Not me!” she said.
“What?” I asked.
“You're the man, right?” Mai asked. “You should pay.”
“You can't be serious,” I said.
“I am,” Mai said. I glared at her. This bitch…
“And why can't you pay?” I asked.
“Don't want to,” she said.
“And I should be the one to pay?” I asked.
“Yep,” Mai said. I clicked my tongue. Should've known.

I am trying to be pleasant. This is for mom. I paused with that
thought.
-Three Days Ago-
She looked at me with worried doe eyes.
“Why do you fight all the time?” she asked. I sighed and rubbed my
forehead.
“I just don't like him,” I said. She looked ready to cry.
“Can't you get along?” she asked. “I love him so much.”
“But why?” I asked. She moved her hand to her chest.
“He's so good to me,” mom said. “I was so lonely.” A warm look
filled her eyes. I rolled mine and groaned. Not this again.
“Fine,” I said. Mom gave me a puzzled look.
“Fine, what?” she asked.
“I will try to be nicer,” I said. Mom happily hugged me.
“Thank you so much,” she said. “I love you, Isao-kun!” I sighed and
shook my head. I can't say no to that woman.

-Present Day-
My phone buzzed again. I pulled it out and looked at the screen. Oh
good!
“Listen,” I said. “My friend's here.” I looked up to see Mai eyeing
me. I put up my hand.
“Hang on,” I said. “I will only pay half.” She frowned at me.
“What?!” she asked. Everyone stared at us. I shrugged.
“Hey, take it or leave it,” I said. “I'm only paying for my stuff.
You are on your own.” Mai folded her arms across her chest.
“Fine,” she grumbled.
“Thank you,” I said. The waitress came back with our food.
“Here you go,” she said.
“Thank you,” I said. The waitress turned and walked off. I picked
up my food and stood up.
“Have a good day,” I said. I walked up to cashier. Once I paid, I
was gone.
And that was it. I doubt that's the end though.
