Let Love Try
-Isao-
“Hey, mom,” I said.
“Yeah?” she asked. I looked at my door.
“I think… I might be attracted to someone,” I said.
“Oh?” mom asked.
“It's been one date, but I know who she is,” I said.
“Do you want a second date?” she asked. I made a face.
“I don't know,” I said. “She might not though.”
“Oh, that bad?” she asked.
“No.”
“No?”
“Well…” I rubbed my forehead. “I thought it was going well. But…
Hm…”
“What is it?”
“She's hot and cold. You know what I mean?”
“Not really.”
“One minutes, she's into it. The next, she's yelling at me. It's
just… I don't get it.” I sighed and rubbed my forehead. I heard mom
giggling.
“What? Why did you laugh?” I asked.
“She sounds confused,” she said. I wrinkled my nose. Seriously?
Where did she get that one?
“She didn't sound confused to me,” I said. “I think she hates
me.”
“Are you sure about that?” mom asked.
“Yeah, I'm pretty sure,” I said. Even I wasn't convinced by that.
Heh. Maybe Mai is confused. Maybe…
“And how do you feel about her?” mom asked.
“Hm…” I said. Good question. How did I feel?
“I don't know,” I said.
“Hm…” mom said. I looked down at Mai's phone in my hand.
“She left her phone in my room,” I said.
“Perfect!” mom said. I looked so confused.
“Huh?” I asked. My mom tried not to laugh. I narrowed my eyes.
“What?” I asked.
“Go take the phone and talk to her,” she said. “Ask her how she
feels about you once and for all.” I made a face. She's serious.
Oh…
“Just like that?” I asked.
“Yes,” she said. “It's a start.” A little enthusiastic, isn't she?
A little too much. Wait… Did he put her up to this?
“Okay…” I said. “I'll do it.”
“Good luck, son,” mom said.
“Right…” I said.
“Love you,” she said. She hung up before I could say a word. I
stared at my phone and frowned. What is she up to? Hm…
I looked up Mai's phone in my lap. I shrugged to myself. Might as
well give it back to her. She'll come looking for it otherwise.
Right. Might as well get this over with. I climbed out of bed and
walked over to the shower.
